I work in a care home and we are only supposed to wear flat shoes so I wore a pair of boots to work as it is rele wet and windy here today and was just changing my boots to my flat shoes when one of my work colleagues remarked that she should have worn socks as well as was cold, I replied that they werent actually socks and they were actually a pair of wooly tights I had on underneath. She then asked why I was wearing tights under trousers and I told her it was a cold day plus I go outside for a ciggie on my breaks. She then said that wearing tights under trousers is wrong though to be honest I do not see what is wrong with this at all.

I don’t think they’ve passed a law (yet) outlawing wearing tights under trousers so I think you’re ok Lesley smile

Yeh I am a naturally cold person. I wear tights under trousers when it is cold. sometimes I get a draft up my leg and the tights prevent it a bit especially working long shifts.

Just wondered what others thoughts were after her comments.

My daughter wears tights under hers too, as her office is freezing. Not unusual.

I don't find tights comfortable on my feet but I wear Indian cotton churidar under my thinner trousers and then two pairs of socks.

Just carry on doing your thing your way, LB67 smile

I have known men wear tights under their trousers, bumblebee, on mountain treks in particular. There are also long-john base layers which are essentially footless tights. Lots of people wear those.

Yeh I do find it helps in the cold weather like today, my Hubby thinks I must be mad as I will be sweating in Wool tights under Trousers though on days like today especially when waiting for public transport can be a godsend.

I can't abide tights whether under trousers or not.
Just do what's comfy for you .

I know a few people who have the same opinion.

And yeh I will.

Personally I find tights under trousers uncomfortable though I know other women wear them. I used to sometimes wear leggings under trousers to work when it was cold with 2 pairs of socks. There's no rules, just what suits people.

What business is it of hers? Wear what you want.

I hope it's not about to be a Private Member's Bill, or something.

I have tried wearing tights under trousers and the trousers stick to the tights and do not hang properly. It is very uncomfortable and unsightly.

I would and have worn tights under jeans with thick socks too when it’s really cold not hit those temps yet though

Tegan2 Sat 28-Oct-17 23:53:18

I always wear tights if I'm wearing boots or walking boots as they seem to prevent blisters.

Wear what you feel comfortable in and take no notice of your colleague. Being on the chubby side in tbe leg department I would find tights under jeans or trousers uncomfortable! Late DH wore thermal longjohns/tights under his sailing gear grin

Sounds like a village out in the sticks!

My 40 year old son works outside and he and all his burley mates wear tights under trousers

Fennel Sun 29-Oct-17 08:47:59

My Dad, who was very thin, used to wear pyjama trousers under his trousers in the winter.
You used to be able to buy woollen longjohns, but they were a b....r to wash hmm

I regularly wear thermal leggings under jeans in the winter, hate feeling cold. But it is a relief not to when the weather warms up.

harrigran Sun 29-Oct-17 09:00:10

My sister always wears tights under her trousers, she claims to hate the cold gap at the top of socks.
I use to wear pyjama trousers under hiking trousers but now have long silky thermals for cold weather.
If you feel the cold wear whatever helps.

MawBroon Sun 29-Oct-17 09:12:37

It’s not particularly cold yet - I have eaten lunch/had coffee outside twice in the last few days so what on Earth are you going to do when Winter really kicks in lesleyberry?
Or do you live in the far North?
