Gift ideas please for 18 year old boys.

I give money as a main present for Christmas along with a gift costing up to £20, so that they have something to open on the day. I have bought 3D pens for the 4 younger GCs, but am struggling with ideas for the two 18 year old boys. One has a car but apparently doesn't want gadgets or cleaning equipment for it. The other is away at Uni studying Musical Theatre.
Any suggestions would be welcome please.

No vouchers either? I'm thinking cinema vouchers or concert ticket voucher (eventim or the like).

If they live on their own, how about a box with pasta, pasta sauces and parmesan cheese for them to have a dinner with friends.

It's a difficult age, isn't it?

18 year old boys....£20 .

Posh socks, a DVD box set, a journal, smellies, beanie hat, sweeties, ripleys annual, back pack, wash bag, posh hair products, a belt, beer making kit( maybe not) scarf, gloves, a cd .....
Still thinking hmm

Give him the money and forget the gift at 18 it would be wasted The smelly route is fraught with difficulties unless you know what he uses and he ll probably have it anyway if you have to maybe something to eatboys are always eating

Thank you for the suggestions. Most I have done before, but I like the food hamper idea for DGS1 to take back to cook for his flatmates. Perhaps the parents will be able to suggest a DVD set for the other, but think they use Netflix mostly.
Bumblebee, one has a girlfriend, the other might prefer a boy wink grin

Why not ask them or their parents what they would like?

Why not really ask their parents about their wishlist for gifts and hobbies? smile I usually make this when I'm in the same situation as you, in some cases it's the best decision. Money as a gift could be a nice idea too but I make this choice only when I have no other ideas because such gift isn't very interesting and besides young people often just waste them instead of buying smth cool for themselves grin
From my own experince I can say that in this case the best choice is books, tech gadgets (for example, my newphew was very glad to get a new mp3-player from me), tickets for concerts and football matches, various sport equipment, music CDs, art stuff, special things for collectors like wooden models www.kickstarter.com/projects/1469570445/wood-trick-0, various experience gifts, cool clothes and accessories smile

I give up on presents for the grandchildren when they get to be teenagers. I used to give money and a gift to open but when they reached their teens I upped the money and stopped the gift. It seems to suit.

ibeani if they have tablets - small bean bags for holding them leaving hands free for beer, remote control etc. I've bought several as gifts this year.

My 2 son's are 20 & 22 , one has just finished uni and the other is in his second year . Each year they have received and loved a voucher for Waggamamas in the cities they are studying in . They are both good cooks and loved the treat of being able to ' eat out ' as hard-up students , taking a friend too .

PS . I forgot to say I don't think they would have considered a food hamper a present because they took / take back huge food supplies from home every term as standard .

Ask them. It is what we do with grandchildren - or give tokens.

As they say on MN - this is a zombie thread .

Money. It’s what most of them really want.
