THAT dress.

I saw in the newspaper that Megan Markel's dress cost £56,000. To me, this an obscene amount to spend on a dress and very poor public relations when there are so many homeless, and thousands struggling to make ends meet on inadequate pay. Surely Kate has got the right idea when she buys "normal" clothes and looks lovely in them.

Hallo, am I missing something? Who's 'Crown Princess Mary', when she's at home?

Jalima1108 Sat 23-Dec-17 16:02:58

Never mind, I expect the naysayers will all be out on Christmas Day, forgoing festivities with their families to cook at a shelter for the homeless and spreading their Christmas cheer and jollity there.

Or will that be Prince Henry and Meghan visiting the homeless and cheering everyone up?
Or the avowed Christians like my friends who do that every year?

NanaandGrampy Sat 23-Dec-17 15:56:23

You’re right dogsmother , the sheer vitriol of some posters beggars belief. Not a lot of Christmas spirit ( or any spirit at all)!

dogsmother Sat 23-Dec-17 15:52:24

What a horrible thread to read through ?

Jalima1108 Sat 23-Dec-17 15:49:54

No, just preferable to the alternative.

paddyann Sat 23-Dec-17 15:43:49

no envy here ,I have exactly the life I chose and no need to envy anyone anything ...well maybe health for my daughter but thats different.I am a republican ..always have been ,was incensed when Lizzie spent MILLIONS on a helicopter for her gs ..while people in the country were literally going hungry...now theres another set over overprivileged eegits to rub folks noses in it re THEIR wealth while others are struggling...SUCH a caring family...NOT .The monarchy needs to end when Lizzie dies ..its out of date and out of touch.CUE ....the bowing and sraping brigade who think they are all WONDERFUL ,HARD WORKING people ....lol

Jalima1108 Sat 23-Dec-17 15:43:26

But - the making of the dress provided work to several skilled people in Britain.

If she had bought a dress from Primark she would have been criticised for supporting sweat shop labour in the Far East and exploiting women and children over there.

marionk Sat 23-Dec-17 15:33:47

Definitely an obscene amount of money - just think what a lot of good that could have been done with the money whoever earned/pad for it! Shocking

Jalima1108 Sat 23-Dec-17 15:30:57

I didn't say anything about the British not liking the photos, only that I think that some Americans will be happy with them too and that some will love them.

It's Jalima1108 btw Rhinestone

Jalima1108 Sat 23-Dec-17 15:27:46

Jakima1108Just trying to figure out the prejudice against Americans on these boards. Why would they live the pics anymore than Brits living the pics? People are peoplein case no one told you? Harry is a Brit.. she’s an American. Why wouldn’t the Brits like the pics as well? You make no sense.
Have you no idea how much some Americans love our Royal Family - more than many on here it would seem.
Now the Americans will have their very own Royal Princess, just as the Australians have theirs. Crown Princess Mary's picture is always in Australian magazines and press.

Makes perfect sense to me.

I think she's a beautiful young woman and good luck to her if she has the money to spend or the contacts who are willing to loan. Harry seems a good chap but desperate to marry and have a family, just hope the relationship lasts. No matter how much talking has gone on, there's no way she knows what she's letting herself in for. Definitely would not want any connection myself to that particular family.

My post Fri 22-Dec-17 23:29:07
doesn't make sense - I should have said 'engagement photos'
Put it down to tiredness.
(if anyone cares tchgrin)

I find the obsession with what celebrities: actors, royals, sportspeople, spend on clothes a bit silly. It is up to them and I doubt they worry about the cost. For many you need to view them as walking advertisements so some good does come of it. You can equally watch a garden program and be amazed at the planting of mature trees at hundreds of pounds a time.
Providing you personally are happy with what you spend and how you deal with your concerns for others that is enough.
Personally I give to Crisis at Christmas as a monetary donation, smile at homeless people and say hello and give a pound or two if you can spare it, pass on clothes you no longer wear to numerous charity shops and write to your MP to do something about benefits and homelessness....rather than critisise others we can all do our bit.
Happy Christmas to you all

Really ladies, what a miserable, joyless sniping lot of comments. As someone said, designer dresses keep a lot of skilled craftspeople in employment, not to mention those who produce luxury fabrics and laces. It does not matter if she bought the dress or not, frankly, the taxpayer didn’t pay for it.
And if you don’t want to take any notice of weddings, frocks, cakes, or for that matter the cup final, that’s absolutely fine. Just go and do something that makes You happy and I for one will not be on here bitching about your choice.

Mapleleaf Sat 23-Dec-17 14:27:14

"Miaow" sums up some of these remarks.

quizqueen Sat 23-Dec-17 14:24:20

Such spiteful remarks on here just because some people can afford to spend a lot of money on things they like but it's only what I have come to expect from those who generally lean towards the left, politically. Getting rid of the 'rich and privileged' certainly won't help the 'so called deserving?' poor; in fact it would only make the situation worse as they pay 95% of the taxes collected in this country, I believe.

Kim19 Sat 23-Dec-17 14:21:07

Gosh.....this topic seems to have released an outpouring of suppressed envy. My query is what benefit the release of this information (true or false) is to anyone? From this post I can already see much harm but I'm having no success with a positive. My area of envy lies in the loved up state of the young couple and all of those in a similar situation. I remember it well....... Merry Christmas everyone.

WilmaKnickersfit Sat 23-Dec-17 13:48:16

Jaycee it's almost like reading comments on the DM website.

Jaycee5 Sat 23-Dec-17 13:44:05

WilmaKnickersfit Yes it was - and quite a few of the comments here have a bit of an undercurrent.

WilmaKnickersfit Sat 23-Dec-17 13:42:11

Marieeliz I'm left wing. Do you mean anti-Royal?

BRedhead59 Sat 23-Dec-17 13:41:12

It may be fake news -The newspapers lie all the time

WilmaKnickersfit Sat 23-Dec-17 13:40:08

grannypauline no, we won't.

WilmaKnickersfit Sat 23-Dec-17 13:39:25

Prettypolly just how many women of colour do you see with Afro hair these days? Could you be anymore obvious? You should be ashamed of yourself.

grannypauline Sat 23-Dec-17 13:36:34

Don't worry, next year we'll all be paying for her dresses.

WilmaKnickersfit Sat 23-Dec-17 13:35:31

I thought she looked beautiful and the photos of the couple were lovely. Harry looks very happy. MM is rich woman who knows her preferred style, so who's business is it what she wears except her own?

It's obvious that there's an enormous amount of looking down noses going on and a giant dose of the actress not quite being up to snuff. The Prince and the actress, snigger snigger.

Kate gets a clothing allowance and as the future Queen, she is required to follow certain protocol. She looks great most of the time, but I think she's lost a lot of her own style. Meghan will not be in the same position and although I'm sure she will listen to her advisers, I hope she retains her personal style.

I wish them every happiness - with no reservations.

PS I'm not a big fan of the Royal family BTW.
