We don’t generally celebrate New Year now except to raise a glass to each other. Our tradition until a few years ago was to spend it with a couple who we were very close to. If they came to us we would have dinner, and, weather permitting, take a bottle of champagne and some glasses, walk across the road to the highest point in our local park and stand with neighbours and others to herald in the New Year and watch the fireworks go off all over the city. It was very jolly. Sadly our friend died and his wife has been content just to get together for lunch on 31st, but this year she is not able to do it, so a long tradition is broken. DD and her family will come to lunch today, but they will not stay and DH and I will raise a glass to each other and then go to bed. Whether you are celebrating or not, I wish you, one and all, a Happy New Year.
