Celebrating New Year

Annsixty I don't think you're cynical, just realistic about your very difficult situation. It must be really hard for you.

I've had experience of caring for three v close relatives with dementia and can relate to what you describe. What helped me was eventually realising I could feel grateful for their ability to always live in the moment - which those of us without Alzheimer's were struggling to achieve! But it is a cruel disease and I wish you courage and energy and send you my 'virtual' support. X

Grabellia it was Mountain Ash and we have just got back in time to see in the NY at home. It was cold but hav8ng a hot water bottle inside my coat helped keep the cold out and everyone is just so friendly. One lady invited me into her house to wait for my husband to finish his race even though she had all the family around. Will look at the one you mentioned. Happy New Year everyone

Happy New Year. 31st December was a very stressful day so things can only get better.

Happy New Year, all! Weren’t those fireworks (on the telly) just fabulous this year?

Wishing everyone at GN a Happy 2018.

HNY everyone. We hate new years eve and thankfully so do our son and DIL who are staying here. We had Christmas cake and cheese, other such nibbles and we went to bed at 10.30 - they watched a film but think they were in bed before the fireworks began at midnight. Luckily I don't think it woke the grandchildren. I've been up since 4 am working before the real start tomorrow and back to some form of normality!

We watched the fireworks on the tv - our little dog hates them but is ok if they are on tv. Irony is if we could go out to the top of our local park we could watch them in real life! We did this every year until we decided to get another dog - but she is worth missing them for.
BTW why are people still letting off fireworks at 3.30am and KEEPING ME AWAKE!! I feel like nothing on earth this morning
Sorry to be a misery

We are not fond of parties and or large crowds. Fireworks we can leave or take. So we usually stay at home. This year we may have had supper at DDs but she has the second bad cold in six weeks. So we stayed at home, went to bed early but woke up when the fireworks started. After that we had torrential rain and thunder and lightening.
Still raining so indoors today I think.

We spent a quiet evening at home.We stayed up to watch the New Year in with the firework display on ITV3 after that off to bed. Happy New Year everyone.

stevej4491, you made me laugh because I could imagine my daughter doing something like that ?
I didn't stay up to watch the fireworks on TV this year but this time it was because DGS would not know he needed to lie in on NYD because I can't function on tiny amounts of sleep at my age.

Full English the next day and a long walk

We see a group of friends, have a small party, champagne at midnight and stay there for the night.All go home after breakfast the next day.Lovely.

We have a get together with neighbours for a sit down meal. Take turns to host but we all bring a course. This year I made the dessert. Drink and good chat at the table and then bubbly at midnight with BBC 1. More chat and off home about 2am. We are all in our seventies now so getting on but long may it continue!
