For me, the one song that can always bring a lump to my throat is Eva Cassidy singing SONGBIRD. The first time I heard it, I was entering somebody's dining room with a group of people just behind me. This song was playing softly in the background and I literally stopped in my tracks and gasped. (Of course, everyone else bumped into me from behind!) What song does the same for you?

Doesn't anyone else go for Elton John's 'Your Song' ?

'Whisper of Angels' by Amici and 'The More I See You' by Chris Montez. My husband always told me to listen to words of 'The More I See You' when we were courting.

My brother borrowed my 45 record by Sailor, called A Glass of Champagne, because he wanted to learn it with his band. This was nearly 40 years ago. I loaned it to him with very bad grace because I said he’d never give it back and I loved it. A few months later my brother died. A year or so ago I saw A Glass of Champagne on BBC2 TOTP2, I burst into tears. I have since bought a Sailor cd on amazon and I play it all the time in the car. Champagne is such a happy song it reminds me of my beloved little brother and makes me smile.

Just remembered Joan Baez- Diamonds & Rust that she wrote remembering her relationship with Bob Dylan.
So sad but I note that in a live recording a few years ago she changed the last line to 'I'll take the diamonds 'so maybe she is finally over him.

So many songs can move me, so I have opened a Spotify app and downloaded them all. My “chill” sounds help me relax at night, my “ dance” ones help me get a move on with the housework etc and I can listen with my ear phones when I go power walking .... perfect !

Set fire to the rain by Adele never fails to upset me. While visiting my sister in hospital in the weeks before she died Adele was all I listened to. Set fire to the rain was the first song playing the last time I left her.

What a lovely thread, so many songs bring a tear to my eye but I have to agree Eva Cassidy , Songbird, which we played at my husbands funeral last year has just had me in tears again.
Rosie I had not heard that Johnny Cash song before, loved it very poignant.

Tippy22 Mon 05-Feb-18 10:22:52

Yes I like the Alan Jackson song too in fact any song that reflects life especially relating to children growing up i.e. Slipping through my fingers by Abba or Sunrise Sunset from Fiddler on the roof.

Artyfarty Mon 05-Feb-18 10:21:58

All these beautiful songs are making me quite sad! sad

durhamjen Mon 05-Feb-18 10:16:34

Tanith, I agree with you about Forever Autumn.

Also Sitting in the Park by Georgie Fame.
That's all we could afford to do after we first met.

Jangran99 Mon 05-Feb-18 09:23:18

Remember When - Alan Jackson.
Wondered if we should have it played at our upcoming Golden Wedding party, but I would be in bits at the first chord!
