Ironing

Hardly ever need to iron anything. I like the duvet and sheet ironed and occasionally take something out of a cupboard which needs a quick iron before I can wear it. Everything that's washed goes into the table dryer, and when dry is folded or hung up. DH irons his own shirts when necessary. My sister spends hours ironing. Unnecessary!

My OH is happy to do it all as long as he can listen to the radio and does it in the spare bedroom. Who am I to spoil his fun

I do the tumble and shake, fold and put away immediately that way very little ironing. My dh has a shirt each day but insists on doing his own as my ironing not up to his high standard.

Hate ironing, avoid it as much as possible.
My next door neighbour irons for hours, makes me tired just seeing her do it through the glass in the kitchen door.
My cousin used to do ironing for other people.

I'd much rather iron than dust!
DCs were taught to iron once they were old enough - I had a minimum of 21 shirts to iron weekly, 2 had Saturday school and DH wore clean shirt daily... It made me feel I was looking after them properly - my problem!
DC1 & 2 never iron, DS 3 does his own and [now ex] girlfriend's ironing!
I only do fabric [as opposed to jersey] ironing; no jeans, bras, sox, knickers, etc. Bedding because I love the smooth coolness of freshly laundered and ironed sheets - if I were a millionaire, I would have clean ironed sheets daily.

I love ironing, very relaxing and also I agree with other posters about the pleasure of a crisply made up bed - it’s delicious to get into!
I tend to do most of my ironing on a Sunday morning, whilst listening to ‘The Archers’ omnibus. Can’t hear Eddie Grundy’s voice without thinking of freshly laundered pillow slips.

Me and my iron are'nt the best of friends, they usually die from underwork rather than overwork. Likewise my vacuumm cleaner. what's the point? I've got better things to do with my time.

I only iron the occasional summer cotton/linen outfit. I hate ironing and am really not good at it. Things don't look much better after I've attempted it. I was better when younger, I think it's the arthritic hands and most irons are just too heavy to lift.

I hate ironing . Found genius solution, my DH likes to watch A LOT of sport and I would be exasperated. So now, whenever he watches sport he sets up the ironing board in front of th tv and - happy days!

I used to iron everything but have cut back to just the essentials now retired. I've never been very good at it though and can put in more creases than I take out!

What's ironing? lol I did own a brand new iron once...... ten years ago I moved house, took it out of it's box and the footplate on it had corroded, it had been in the box for so long! Have to admit I detest ironing, deliberately either buy stuff that can be hung straight from dryer or washing line, or else stretch it out whilst still damp!
My grandmother on the other hand ironed practically everything

My neighbour came to borrow my iron recently. I'm ashamed to say that after a long search she had to go home empty handed.I just couldn't find it anywhere!!
It did turn up later.........behind the clutter in the under sink cupboard! By then she'd bought herself a replacement (just goes to show how often I use it!)

I only iron what I have to. If it’s not creased it goes on a hanger into wardrobe or if not in ironing basket. Don’t iron pjs they get screwed up in bed anyway. Cotton long sleeved t shirts and jeans not leggings.

Climbing into a bed of freshly ironed cotton sheets makes it worth the effort.

who cares? It is a totally personal choice, isn't it. I would say that those who would judge you for not ironing are not worth bothering about! Personally I probably do too much of it, and do confess to ironing pillow cases and duvet covers. I love the feeling of climbing into bed into a crispy, smooth, freshly ironed duvet cover, but don't iron the fitted sheets! I live alone, and as I said, who cares?

Who knew there was such a piece of equipment as an ironing basket??

I hardly ever iron. DH hasn't worked for years so no need there for a crisp shirt. Sheets go on the radiators or hang down from the banisters if they can't go outside on the line. Jumpers are hung on the clothes horse in the bathroom. I iron the tablecloth (only used for visitors and not always then), hankies and my one or two linen shirts that I wear in summer.

I'm in the "love to iron" camp. It's the only way I can justify watching "Homes Under The Hammer" ..... plus I really enjoy making things smooth and crease-free, and getting into a freshly made up bed where the bedclothes have been ironed is one of the great joys of life. And for those who tell me to get a life - got one thanks, and very enjoyable it is too.

I am another who doesn't mind ironing love freshly ironed bedding .,the job I don't like is putting it away oh will do any housework but doesn't like ironing so it works well. Hello

I hate ironing, duvet & pillowcase are ironed, I wear jeggins mostly which don't need ironing. In summer I have more ironing, shorts, shirts & blouses.

Why would anyone iron towels? It flattens the pile

Each to their own. I have a walk-in closet cum laundry room....my favourite space in the house as I listen to audio books whilst ironing or sewing... very theraputic.

I can't believe how many people iron bedding, It must take ages. I would think it a waste of time, but each to your own. Unironed fitted sheets smooth out once they are on the bed, as do duvet covers and pillow cases.

I used to iron everything..... and when I retired I stopped. Most of it is tumble dried, so doesn't need it! I learnt from my daughter who irons about I garment in 20... when I asked her about it she said "life's too short to peel a grape mum" .... Do you know she's right. She has two kids who wear informs and NO tumble dryer , she said ironing is a none sense and finally ive got the message . Me and her agree... it's weddings and funeral shirts only! Too many books to read to bother with useless wasteful 'housewifery' crap.

I'm in the pro ironing brigade, love freshly laundered and ironed bedding. But does anyone else have the urge to iron their grandchildren's clothes when their non ironing mummy (and daddy) drop them off for the day.
