Hi Everyone,

Do you (still) send your kids/grandkids Valentine's cards?

Bez1989 Wed 14-Feb-18 17:34:06

Oh Yes......

I sent an email...
with Happy Valentine's Day images on..... to our Grand Daughters. ..age 10 and 7. I hope they liked it.

The 7 year òld gave us a Valentine card that she'd made herself....we thought that was so loveĺy.

Marydoll I have now gone back and read all the posts on here and see why you feel upset. This should be a light hearted thread and it’s an unpleasant slur to read such words as creepy etc applied to your posts, when it’s simply an innocent family tradition to send cards.Take no notice of it! ?

Thank you. Lemon
No more posting from me on this thread.

My brother sent me anonymous valentines cards when I was at university. He thought it was funny. I was very excited at the time, speculating who my secret admirer was. When I found out later I was very cross and felt humiliated. But by then I had a boyfriend who sent genuine cards and has done so for 50 years. Reader , I married him!

Chris6753 that's very sad. I'm so sorry. You must be very upsetflowers.

GabriellaG Wed 14-Feb-18 19:12:04

It's no more repugnant or creepy than sending one to your dog or cat as some people do.
My oldest is 50 this year and I still send her and her brothers and sisters a card because I love them. Love is not just between adult men and women. There are many shades of love but the strongest is between me and my children/gc and ggc.

Marydoll I''m sorry you were upset and that I said it was odd without reading the thread. Words like creepy and inappropriate were unnecessary and cruel. . I'd take no notice and do what you have always done in your family. We all have different traditions.

I've managed to cut and paste:

BBbevan Wed 14-Feb-18 19:36:07

Never occurred to me to send a card to a child !

Nanny41 Wed 14-Feb-18 19:50:59

I made a card each for both sets of Grandchildren, they are all in their teens, I went down with the flu at the weekend, and havent been able to post the cards, but I took photographs of them and sent them a message as well, they can get their cards later, its the thought that counts isnt it!

I've sent a Valentine card to my DS every year since he was 7 and he's 34 now. Every year since he got married, DIL reminds me a couple of days before so that I don't forget not that you could with all the hype in the shops. He knows who sent it. His wife obviously knows who sent it. It's a bit of innocent family fun that costs a couple of pounds a year. I'll be doing it again next year and may even send to the GC too! Each to their own.

I wish I'd seen it before we had our rather boring dinner!

BlueBelle Wed 14-Feb-18 20:34:49

Still ??? Never have it s an event for lovers not families isn’t it

When my Lovely Mum was alive, and living alone, I used to send her a bouquet of flowers on Valentines day. I just wanted Mum to share this special day too and let her know how much she was loved. She was always thrilled.

minxie Wed 14-Feb-18 21:01:14

I work in the card industry merchandising and I was asked recently if we had a valentines card for a man to give his daughter. Another man asked for a card that said mum. Valentines is for lovers and secret admirers. I think the look on my face gave them the answer they needed

shirleyhick Wed 14-Feb-18 21:19:30

No do not send any

BlueBelle Wed 14-Feb-18 22:03:42

Why would you need to send a Valentine card to let your mum know she was loved ! sorry I just don’t get it I ve only ever known it as an anonymous card to a lover or hoped for lover

Billybob4491 Thu 15-Feb-18 06:33:14

I send my grandchildren a Valentine card and also this year my great nieces (who are both 1 years old) why? because they are all deeply loved.

kittylester Thu 15-Feb-18 06:52:07

Does no one else find it sad that lots of people on this thread equate love with sex?

FlorenceN Thu 15-Feb-18 07:16:22

I don't think they do.

FlorenceN Thu 15-Feb-18 07:36:53

Equate love with sex I mean. It's a day for lovers to express their love toward their partner or 'love interest.' It's about romantic love imo which is not the same love we share with our families.
