So pleased for you maw smile.

Marydoll Tue 13-Mar-18 22:12:21

Lovely to hear about your day, Maw.
..,,,and you certainly don't look 70.?

MawBroon Tue 13-Mar-18 22:09:12

Despite dreading it, I have had a wonderful day - lunch and bubbles with DDs 2 and 3 at The Delaunay followed by the Picassos at Tate Modern AND now looking forward to a weekend in Brussels with all 3 daughters in June! Thank you all, DDs 1, 2 and 3.
This pic is to prove to DGS that Granny wore her badge ALL day (acquiring a couple of compliments from nice young men(!) and a piece of very chocolatey chocolate birthday cake as a surprise at the restaurant into the bargain!)

cornergran Tue 13-Mar-18 20:21:33

Good wishes to all poorly people. So sorry about your friend soop, she seemed to be mending so well. Hope Mr G is ok greyd. I truly don’t know what to say about your situation charley, other than it simply isn’t fair.

You’re forgiven n&g, your weekend must have been both hectic and wonderful, sometimes the kitchen lives through a week in a day it seems.

Sounds a wonderful trip bellasnana, can understand how difficult it will be to leave your granddaughter and daughter, especially if you have worried about them.

I’m off to lie down in a dark corner, just too much lovely food.

There is quite a lot of very chocolatey chocolate cake in a tin on the side. It will keep. Help yourselves - please. smile.

annsixty Tue 13-Mar-18 18:29:53

I don't mind at all Galen Up thread I urged everyone to take every opportunity to get out and about and holiday while they can. You can send me your "smalls" if you like ?

Bellasnana Tue 13-Mar-18 18:24:34

Well, I’ve been out of the loop for a week so am trying to catch up on all your news. I’ve been with DD1 who planned a lovely trip for us starting at Washington DC, then by train to Philadelphia, then New York and finally Boston. Had an unforgettable time, saw things I never imagined I’d get to see, and great to catch up with DD1 who lives in Minneapolis.

We had a bit of a drama getting back though. Supposed to fly from Boston this morning but both our flights were cancelled yesterday due to the impending blizzard, so DD1 managed to get us on flights this morning from New York! We had only been in Boston a day but had to sacrifice a night in the really nice hotel we were staying in, rent a car and DD1 drove us the four hours back to NY, stayed in a grotty hotel by the airport, and we both got away ok this morning. Plane had to be de-iced due to light snow falling, but it was interesting to watch how it’s done.

So, I’m back in Florida, DD1 is back at work in Minneapolis, and I have four more days before the tears flow again when I leave DD2 and beloved DGD to return home. Things aren’t too good with her latest relationship. I’ve tried to suggest solutions, but to no avail. It’s hard being a parent isn’t it.

Sorry this is a long ramble. Do hope there is good news re your grandson, soop, there’s always something isn’t there.

Happy birthday Maw and many more to come. flowers

Right, off to pick up Bella from school, I’ve missed her this week, and she has missed Nana, bless her.

Charleygirl Tue 13-Mar-18 18:21:04

Galen I do not think that you are able to go to work on Thursday- you need to rest.

Ann it would appear that you are standing at the door handing out money, you have had so many expenses. It all appears to come at once.

Good luck for tomorrow soop.

Galen Tue 13-Mar-18 18:13:13

I won’t be able to do them for much longer though!

Galen Tue 13-Mar-18 18:12:22

Sorry Ann

annsixty Tue 13-Mar-18 17:24:55

What a lot of poorly people we have,as my mother would have said we all need putting in a sack and shaking up.
Good wishes to Mcs and your friend soop and your H Greyduster men don't like fuss.
My GD came this afternoon and sent me to bed, I slept for an hour and a half, I woke feeling like a zombie, fortunately I had made a cottage pie this morning.
After my purchase of a tumble dryer last week I have just been online and ordered a new washing machine, mine has been leaking for a couple of months now, I really know how to push the boat out. With Galen it's cruises , with me it it's domestic appliances.
I would guess she gets more pleasure than I do?

Greyduster Tue 13-Mar-18 16:49:59

Why am I always at least two posts behind the curve!! Apologies N&G I’ll catch up eventually! And Soop take care tommorrow - hope it all turns out okay with MacS and your friend.

Greyduster Tue 13-Mar-18 16:45:23

Good afternoon folks. Charley that is what happened to DH when he has his hernia op. He saw his designated surgeon twice and then on the day, when he was prepped he ended up with his 2i/c! We were assured she was a very competent member of his “firm” but she looked about fifteen and it was still a bit disconcerting.
Soop I’m very pleased that your grandson (not your son as I mistakenly said in my post yesterday!) is more comfortable and hope he gets a diagnosis soon.
Ann very good to hear your DH is coming along nicely. I hope it all means less work and worry to come for you.
We have been gardening today; digging up things that can no longer justify their place on the grounds that they are either under performing (could apply to me these days!) or, in some cases, overperforming and elbowing other things out! I have a bit of a blank canvas now and lots to think about. I am waiting for my son to arrive as he and his dad are going to football tonight, but everything has gone a bit pear shaped in that DH, who has not been well for a week or so, was finally bullied prevailed upon by me to make a doctor’s appointment which turned out to be either this evening or in a fortnights time! So he took this evening, but by the time he gets back, it will be an all out dash to get to the football ground in time for the game as it is a half hour drive from here. I may end up taking them to save them time looking for a parking space. The doctor he is seeing is notorious for overrunning her appointments, but she’s very good. I just hope he doesn’t lie to her about what is troubling him!
Have a pleasant evening everyone.

soop Tue 13-Mar-18 16:38:14

Hello N&G and farewell. It's an all-go sort of day. smile moon

soop Tue 13-Mar-18 16:36:42

Charleyg Stick to your guns!

Galen That's more like the Galen we all know and cherish wink

corner Enjoy yet another birthday meal. You can't have too much of a good thing...and save me a slab of cake if there's any going spare.

JaneD3 A sparrow hawk visits our garden regularly. It's amazing to see the flock of birds scatter in an instant. They lie low until the danger passes.

We had a call about an hour ago from our pal who had the hip 'op just over six weeks ago. Bloods were taken yesterday afternoon. Oban hospital rang the GP's surgery at lunchtime. The results indicate a DVT. She was asked to go straight into the surgery. She's had two injections to thin the blood. Tomorrow Oban hospital has made an appointment for her to have a scan. MacSporran has his appointment late morning. We'll take our pal to Oban and have lunch and then return to the hospital so that they can do the procedure. She has been given two phials of stuff to be injected at this time tomorrow. Another appointment for Thurs morning to continue with whatever treatment is required. Her leg is rock hard and double the size of the other leg. It never rains...hmm

I shall possibly not be logging on tomorrow as we'll have a full day of comings and goings. I shall be thinking of you. Back again hopefully on Thursday after lunch when I return from ironing duty.

NanaandGrampy Tue 13-Mar-18 16:33:26

Afternoon all !!

My things have moved apace here . I shall have to do some serious catching up.

Just recovered from a weekend with the little boys and lots going on this week so forgive me for not commenting on everything.

Glad your H is showing signs of physical improvement ann.

Happy birthday Maw!

Glad you're feeling better Galen.

Sorry to hear about your GS soop hopefully he is feeling better today . I think I shall be lurking mostly this week but will try and keep up :-)

B+ could do better Nana !!

Charleygirl Tue 13-Mar-18 16:33:14

corner I have been on the list since last October. I do not intend to do anything, much as I would like to write to my consultant and tell him what is going on, I doubt if he is aware. I would not be surprised if I am moved to the back of the list which is over 6 months long. At the end of it I ma not a piece of meat on a conveyor belt. This man will have been employed probably for 6 months to reduce lists.

cornergran Tue 13-Mar-18 16:24:59

Oh charley, what a disappointment. What’s your next step? Thank goodness you know the system and can challenge it. You’re probably right and it was a management decision and as such I am sure can be challenged. I’m so sorry this has happened.

callgirl1 Tue 13-Mar-18 16:24:25

I hope that your grandson`s tests prove not too serious Soop. I don`t wish to alarm, but a pile of chewed up paper towel sounds a bit like nest building. I do hope you can persuade it to depart without harming it.
MANY HAPPY RETURNS OF THE DAY MawBroon!
Jane D3, so sorry to hear about the blackbird`s demise, but it`s dog eat dog in their world I suppose.
Galen, do take it easy, or you`ll be too exhausted to go back to work!
Hey Soop! I`ve just worked out that it`s only 4 weeks and 4 days to our lunch at The George, can`t wait!

Charleygirl Tue 13-Mar-18 16:18:04

I was on a high for under 5 minutes this pm after I had been told that my knee replacement would be done on the 12th April. Then I discovered I was being moved from my consultant's list to a locum's- I would never have seen this man, I do not know his background etc so I have declined the offer. I am having major surgery, not my toe nails clipped.

I am coming close to the 18 week list hence moving me to another. They chose the wrong person and when I see my consultant I will tell him so, although I think that it was one of the managers who made the decision.

JaneD3 Tue 13-Mar-18 15:55:36

Great excitement in the garden as our female sparrow hawk took a blackbird right outside the window then ate it outside the patio door! And all in our very small, built up garden.

Galen Tue 13-Mar-18 15:03:13

Gosh! I’m exhausted. Sudden burst of energy prompted me to
1 read files for Thursday
2 order roses for new rose bed
3 chose a climber to replace the Passion flower that Gary is going to dig out. ( he doesn’t know yet)
4 ring Cunard to pay for September cruise and add next door to it and add Bella to the Xmas one.
5 ring financial advisor to check finances.

Think I’m too busy to return to work!

cornergran Tue 13-Mar-18 14:28:35

Better news about your grandson soop, hoping for a definite diagnosis soon so proper treatment can begin.

Oh dear, those rodent visitors do take over. Hope just the one and an eviction order can be served.

The care home visits sound gruelling, it sounds sensible to share your time between the two floors. Think about yourself too.

Pleased you feel better but do o carefully tomorrow, galen, best not to trigger a relapse. Eighth decade sounds well, rather grand. I think I’ll enjoy getting there.

Pleased your husband’s strength continues to increase ann, you sound just like one of our neighbours who continually urges others to live a full life and have fun.

Thinking about that we’ve another birthday meal today, it will be lovely to see people but is it very wrong to whisper oh so quietly that three celebratory meals in five days is just a bit much for the poor old digestion? I’m sure I’ll cope though smile.

soop Tue 13-Mar-18 13:45:30

Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Maw...happy birthday to you.
I love Jalima's greeting.

Galen take care...we've missed your chirpy sense of humour.

Ann A very wise posting of yours. I agree wholeheartedly.

Grandson had a more restful night. He's been having bloods taken and suchlike. It may have been a gall/kidney stone that has moved on...still no definite diagnosis.

I've been to the care home and it was a troubling visit. The upstairs section which I visit, is for the advanced dementia residents. There is usually an awful lot of calling out for help and people who sit and cry (with desperation.) There are some awful chesty coughs being exchanged and the staff are pushed to deal with every minor mishap. One new resident, a very elderly lady with partial sight, was beside herself because she couldn't find her way home. She had a doll under one arm and a large handbag and a white stick in her hands. I was able to gently coax her into a different chair and suggested that help was on its way. I spent half the normal amount of time before making the decision to move down to the lower floor. I think that, in future, I shall divide my time between the two.

We have a mouse living with us. I discovered that underneath the kitchen sink was a heap of chewed kitchen towel and a few wee pellets. Also, a book had been subject to needle-like teeth on the bottom book shelf. Big heave ho throughout ALL the cupboards is on the list of urgent to-dos for this afternoon.

Galen Tue 13-Mar-18 13:02:28

??‍♀️?

Jalima1108 Tue 13-Mar-18 11:18:40

Wellcome to those of us in our eighth decade
Oh my goodness, that sounds worse Galen shock
