Gin seems to be getting popular now as a social drink with the twenty year old including my grandson. I was out with friends yesterday and the 'older' ones rembe it being called ' mothers ruin' as it led to depression and was known as a cheap drink. I quite fancy having a wee tipple - any suggestions as there seem to be so many to choose

Bombay Sapphire - I picked up some suggestions for different mixers when I went there.
Here are some

the one I liked best was with cranberry juice and a few fresh cranberries floating in it.

You could make any of them with other makes of gin too. smile

Plymouth gin is soooo nice..

Kitty thst made me laugh! Gin and orange was so sophisticated, wasn’t it ! Seems (and is) eons ago now. lager and lime lime was another mix thst I imagine has gone out of fashion. I drink neither beer nor spirits these day. Just vino, mainly white.

The flavoured Fevertree tonics are lovely on their own, especially the elderflower one.
I also like Gin and Bitter Lemon.

I tried gin years ago and hated it so never drank any again until recently. I'm now addicted to Gun Dog rhubarb gin mixed with prosecco. My daughter has booked us on gin tasting experience as part of her wedding planning. One of the gins is mixed with a black tonic which apparently tastes like charcoal- has anyone tried this?

Had my first gin and tonic when I was 50. It’s now my go to drink, was given a bottle of earl grey gin and enjoyed it with lots of ice, fever tree tonic and lemon or cucumber, in a nice roomy glass.

Havnt had one since Christmas so perhaps it’s time.....?

I made some rhubarb gin last summer. It was simply a matter of buying cheap gin and steeping it with rhubarb and sugar for some time. A pleasant change but rather sweet to my taste. I’ll certainly make some more this year if our rhubarb isn’t killed off by this frost.

I have never really liked gin, but got somewhat seduced by making my own sloe gin a few years back. My daughter-in-law now; her knowledge of gin is such that I'm sure she would win a Mastermind Quiz. She has a selection worthy of a high end gin palace. grin

Greyduster
You can only buy Nordic Mist on line in the uk. I don't know why as it's made by Coca-Cola confused

Gin was my favourite drink pre children then moved to wine. I returned a few years ago and like Hendricks and Opihr. Have been to the Sipsmith and Bombay Sapphire distilleries - try their Laverstoke cocktail, very potent and moreish! DH returned from a holiday in South Africa today bearing a bottle of a craft gin from a winery. It's infused with Cape Ruby (port) having one now garnished with cucumber and rosemary which work really well. Re tonic both DSs bought me Jack Rudy tonic concentrate at Christmas - you mix it with fizzy water and it doesn't detract from the base of the gin.

I love gin and tonic, the elderflower tonic is lovely. There are lots of different gins around now. My friend loves the rhubarb and ginger one neat.

Well ladies you all have different tastes for gin although bombay sapphire seems to be popular. I definitely will have to try gin asap!

GranEd Sat 03-Mar-18 15:36:18

I’ve always let it be known to family and friends that I can’t stand gin - never have and never will!, ‘Tastes like cheap scent.’ was one of my kinder comments.
Last month DD2 handed me a drink to try. It was lovely! She did laugh as she told me what it was. Rhubarb and ginger gin from the Edinburgh Gin Co.
What have I been missing all these years?
I have treated myself to a bottle now. wink wink

My DiL gave me a bottle of Sloe Ruby at Christmas. It is a blend of gin, sloes and ruby port. Absolutely delicious, made in Yorkshire. What’s not to like? ?

I like Martin Miller’s gin with Fevertree tonic and cucumber.
Jilly Goolden chose it as her favourite, and her second favourite is Aldi’s Oliver Cromwell!

Rarely have a drink but when I do a G&T hits the spot!

jacq10 Sat 03-Mar-18 19:15:54

Like Greduster I had an "unhappy experience" with gin in the 70's. I always blamed the Bitter Lemon which, along with Tonic, was the only mixer on offer but think I might try the taster offer in Morrisons mentioned above.

jacq10 Sat 03-Mar-18 19:16:52

Sorry Greyduster

I am a wee bit concerned about quinine in the tonic. I don't why.. maybe because I associate it with malaria

jordana Sat 03-Mar-18 23:11:52

Although I think you can put fever tree mix instead

Jalima1108 Sat 03-Mar-18 23:20:59

I drink tonic water sometimes before going to bed because quinine is supposed to stop you getting cramp.

TwiceAsNice Sat 03-Mar-18 23:23:31

I can't stand gin but I don't actually like tonic either! Both daughters love a gin and tonic, they have tried all flavours and the tonic must be Fevertree. I keep a bottle of Tanquery and a little box of baby cans of tonic just for them -- love is!

TwiceAsNice Sat 03-Mar-18 23:25:03

Ready in the fridge that is, I ve even bought balloon shaped gin glasses to pour in

Bellasnana Sat 03-Mar-18 23:25:12

Many moons ago, when asked what I would like to drink, I asked for a martini. I was so clueless, I assumed I was drinking vermouth and had no idea that gin had been added.

Since then I have never touched the stuff. Ugh! I can still remember how ill it made me. Ditto red wine.
