Gin? Nice or not?

Bombay Sapphire is my current favourite but you need a good tonic water with it. I like Fevertree.

And it ought to be well chilled with a slice it two of lemon.

I like all gin but Bombay sapphire is my favourite with Nordic Mist Tonic with a couple old cardonom pods and lime, no ice.

Gordon’s, Fever Tree tonic and a slice of lime, just a couple of ice cube, please.

Try the "Tiptree" flavoured gins. A shot of the strawberry flavour is just the thing in this cold weather!

Bombay Sapphire is my favourite too, but I also like Plymouth. I had an unhappy encounter with gin in the late seventies and went off it for years, but, it having wormed it’s way back into my affections, I now carefully enjoy it again. Tonic? Fentimans or good old Schweppes - still looking for Nordic Mist. Gin is very big at the moment and there are many artisan gin makers on the up. Joys to come!

I prefer the Bombay dry (transparent bottle as opposed to the blue). It has a slight taste of some spice, probably cardamom.

I'm experimenting with different tonic waters as they come onto the market (Germany, as usual, is 10 years behind the UK in such things)

My children enjoy a G&T, too. With my mother, my sister and me, it never went out of fashion!

I enjoy a G&T, in fact I prefer a glass to a glass of wine. At Christmas I was given a bottle rose and pomegranate gin from The Edinburgh Gin Co. It was delicious on its own poured over several ice cube.

One of the children bought dh a gin experience at a local gin distillery company.

There was an explanation of the process and then a chance to blend your own gin and have it distilled.

As far as I remember DH'S contained basil, cinnamon, coriander, cumin and mint. It is done under the supervision of the distiller and they retain the recipe so you can reorder if you want to - though that costs £40 ++!!

DH loved the experience and the gin he made as does anyone who is allowed to taste it. He called it Pa's Ruin.

I used to drink gin and orange when I was a sophisticated teenager but I can't stand it now!

I LOVE gin! I have tried many but go back to Gordons for a straightforward sharp, fresh taste. Tanqueray is very very nice with a deeper tone. I was bought some Silent Pool at Xmas which is a very complex mix of almost spicy tones- its expensive but comes in a gorgeous decorated bottle with a glass stopper - very retro. DH bought me some Whitely Neil for my birthday and that is very nice and again a deeper flavour. I would start with Gordons or Tanqueray to get the original flavour and avoid the flavoured ones which all taste too sweet and a bit cough syrupy to me. Buy a good tonic - cant beat Schweppes I like the low calorie one as its sharper. I cant see how Fever Tree justifies its price but people like it. I definitely wouldn't buy a supermarket own though they are not very nice. Good luck and let us know how you get on. PS My sister who has a sweeter taste than me likes Sipsmiths.

Try Warner Edwards Honeybee Gin!! It is my favourite but may be a little sweet for some tastes. I would also recommend, as others have, a tonic such as Fentimans or Fever Tree.

I had a bottle of Heston's Citrus Sherbet Lazy Gin for Christmas. It was lovely, and I'm ashamed to say that I drank it all too quickly. As gin is the only alcohol I ever drink, I think I'm allowed, occasionally.?

I bought this yesterday, so should I start immediately?
I love the occasional G&T nowadays, but hated it when young. When I was pregnant it was one of my cravings, but I resisted. Perhaps that it why I like it now.

Love the local craft gins from Eden distillery.
Try aldi for new gins that aren't ridiculously expensive.

Aldi’s London Dry is a little oily for my taste but I buy it for steeping sloes in. Love Sloe gin! I didn’t know they did craft gins. I’ll have to have a look.

‘Shortcross’ is a gorgeous small batch gin distilled in Northern Ireland - it became so popular I think it’s widely available now. It’s wonderful matched with Fevertree tonic. (I couldn’t get Fevertree one weekend and reverted to Schweppes and the difference was remarkable - definitely try Fevertree if you haven’t already, it’s really lovely.)

I stick in to Fever tree as it has no artificial sweeteners.
You can't beat Gordons but DH bought me a bottle of Icelandic Gin back from a recent trip.

But Merlotgran it’s made with Botanicals! ?. I bought my son some Nettle Gin at Christmas, he said it was very nice.

I always think that Bombay Sapphire is a bit of a swizz. All the money on a fancy bottle! Also the Fever Tree tonic is just cashing in on the current vogue for gin. Schweppes found the formula for perfect tonic to use with gin and its never been bettered.
For us it's got to be Tanqueray. Tanqueray 10 if poss but it's very expensive. We've tried all sorts of others but have never found one we like as much. Using the Royal 'we' here but DH absolutely agrees with me on this!

It’s my fave tipple, always Gordons and I love fevertree tonic.
Now and then I add a sloosh of elderflower cordial to it, that’s nice too.??

Juniper Green Organic gin. Expensive, but lovely as a treat! Menorcan gin was our favourite, which you may be able to get in the UK, but no doubt pay considerably more for!

Gin is my DH's favourite tipple. His favourite is Hendricks. He drinks it with tonic water, ice and slices of cucumber. A friend was recommending Asda's rhubarb gin to him recently but, as he put it, I like gin that 'hasn't been messed around with - just gin flavoured'

Yes I'm tempted too.There's a gift set for sale at morrisons at the moment including four different gins and four different flavours of fevertree for £12. Might treat myself.
