Last Friday I rang a bank which had a lot of my savings and asked why, after a week since I had asked to close the account, I had not received my money. I was told that because closure could only be done by snail mail it would take them a long time to open my letter, read it and then process my request. I was then told that NatWest might not use faster banking! You can imagine my response especially as the bank is part of RBS the same as NatWest.
I was then told that my account had been closed 2 days previously to which I showed some concern (to put is mildly) and asked where my money was. After much tooing and froing he told me he had made a mistake and that the account said I had applied to close it. I then suggested that if the account showed I had requested closure why wasn't it closed? I asked for the name of the CEO and was told I would be put through to Complaints but they didn't answer the phone. Eventually I got the name of the CEO and was told that Complaints would call me back. I'm still waiting.
So, today, having still not received said phone call I decided to Facebook them. I have been told that it takes 10 days to answer a complaint and I pointed out that, as I hadn't spoken to them, they didn't know what my complaint was. I had given them enough info to deal with it but have just been asked for my name and account number. My response was: Just how many people with the name of ............................ raised a complaint with Marcus on Friday morning? Yes, probably not the kindest thing I could have done but sometimes it just seems the right thing to do to point out that they are not using their 'little grey cells'!

. I'm now in the process of changing to another bank after more than 38 years loyalty. Pity these banks aren't so loyal to their customers.
