Lovely sons-in-law

There are a lot of sad posts about awkward DILS - and I really feel for those involved in these difficult relationships.

We hear little about sons-in-law; so I just wanted to say that I have 3 of these creatures and they are lovely!

Anyone else blessed with lovely sons-in-law?

Mine are all very different in personality and background, but they share a devotion to our DDs, a sense of integrity, honesty, a willingness to work hard to support their families and kindness. We love them all.

Thank you, Luckygirl for such a positive post. We hear so regularly of the negative relationships that this is a joy. I only have sons and I think they ave been well received in their respective partners families. Certainly hope so as that was the example they were set by their Father. Great stuff!

Like us, DDil's family are small and we have become one family, counted in to all family events and having whole family holidays. One coming up this summer to celebrate our golden wedding.

I adore my son in law who isn't and my son in law, I will not call them my sons, they have mothers

I get on well with my SIL , although he can be a little ‘tetchy’ at times. But he’s a wonderful dad to my GK’s, and a hard worker. His mother died two months after the wedding and she asked me to love him if I could..... I can, and I do!

I have a Son no2 and now a D2 no2. I dislike the title in law. We were a family of 4 and now we are a family of 6 adults plus 2GC. I didn't have the easiest of relationships with my MIL and I was determined it would be different if I became a MIL. I am fully aware of how very fortunate we are and feel for those who have a different experience.

Reading this makes me wonder if some people are not just predisposed to be happy and loving, however hard their lives are.

So many losses and there you are, still loving and living and not bitter, when lots of threads on here are riddled with angst over trivia and perceived slights.

A fine example to us all.

Our DD1 married young and we weren't over impressed but he has won us over and we have told others-and him-that for many years he has been like a son to us. DD2 married later, kissed a few frogs before she found her prince. He is completely different, was very difficult to begin with but we now have a good relationship with him.

I always wanted four children but finances only allowed for 2. Now I have 1 DD and 1 DDiL , 1 DS and 1 DSiL Wish granted

Life is strange, I wanted four daughters, no son, I was one of four girls and a baby brother , I told my parents to get the little monster adopted

I had four daughters, two died at birth and my beloved first born last year, younger daughter is many miles away, now in old age my son in law who isn't and my son in law are really the sons I thought all those years ago I didn't want, still got the little monster brother ?

I am lucky to have 2 super SsIL ( one not official but has been in the family for a long time ).. Both always ready to help and muck in with the whole family. Both very supportive of our daughters and one a lovely Daddy to our. 2 year old DGS and the other a great ‘stepdad’ to our 15 year old DGS.

I know a young man working earning not much more that minimum wage. Wife is a senior professional big time. They are together since teens, got married after she finished uni. Now have a young child. Made for each other.

I love my SIL likes my own son. He is a wonderful husband and father.

Willow500 Wed 07-Mar-18 16:15:22

Annie your SILWI sounds wonderful - and the name you've given him is lovely. Having sons I don't have SILs but my sister in law's SIL is great and a brilliant father to their little boy. I know my youngest son's in law's think he's the best thing since sliced bread grin

Jalima1108 Wed 07-Mar-18 15:36:47

Your son-out-law?
(depends on his sense of humour of course)

Greenfinch Wed 07-Mar-18 15:29:27

My working class SiL is able to spend much more time with his children than my DH was ever able to.He works long hours but there are no meetings abroad or otherwise and no evenings spent in preparation for this or that.

Luckygirl Wed 07-Mar-18 15:22:56

I am intrigued by my DDs' choices of OH. All of the girls come from our middle class professional background with very high educational achievement - but they all chose their "bits of rough" as I call them rather than professional men. And very nice they are too! grin

Greenfinch Wed 07-Mar-18 14:58:17

Like you Annie my SiL came from a difficult background.Abandoned by his mother and grandmother at an early age he was brought up in care and had some terrible experiences. There have been problems but he is a wonderful father despite having no role models himself and has infinite patience with DD by her own admission.

kittylester Wed 07-Mar-18 14:23:42

Lovely, Annie!

I have 3 lovely sons in law. I also have a lovely DiL.

Anniebach Wed 07-Mar-18 13:57:38

Thank you Auntieflo, he is use to me calling him son in law who isn't. When the marriage broke down my younger daughter stayed away from me for over a year because I refused to ask him not to come to my home, I was not going to break my promise that my home was his home , it still is and she now accepts this. What is so strange really is my sisters didn't think these two boys were good enough for my daughters coming from difficult home lives , I disagreed and I was right.

Purpledaffodil Wed 07-Mar-18 13:40:03

I refer to my son’s fiancée as my daughter out law. She says it makes her feel daring!
My sil is the sweetest man I’ve ever known, so kind and supportive. DD’s taste in men has much improved with age ?

Luckygirl Wed 07-Mar-18 13:38:22

What a grand bunch annie - touched to hear how one responded to your terrible loss.

stella1949 Wed 07-Mar-18 13:36:49

I have one daughter , and her husband is lovely. I thought she'd never meet "the one", then suddenly he appeared next to her in a pub,
where she was watching a rugby game on the big TV. She asked him if he knew the difference between a ruck and a maul....and 16 years later they are happily married with two lovely children. He is just right , a good provider and a wonderful father, and he loves my daughter as much as I do. What more could I want ?

Auntieflo Wed 07-Mar-18 13:31:40

Annie, I rather like the title ' son in law who isn't', and although it may be long, it suits you and I hope him. smile
