Why don’t people just admit that they do discriminate?
Really, I’m not racist, BUT……
I’m not homophobic, BUT …….
The BUT almost always means you are are what you are at pains to state you’re not.
There simply is no “but”.
In terms of Asylum Seekers, yet again I see, now it’s about housing.
Let’s be very clear, once “processed” and given both leave to remain and right to work, no Asylum Seeker magically jumps to the top of any social housing list.
Once given both leave to remain and right to work AS are granted exactly the same rights as anyone else living here, no more, no less.
They can apply for social housing, and be given the right to bid. Just like anyone else living here.
I see quite a lot about veterans and rough sleeping on here too.
Veterans, on the whole, have many charities dedicated just to them, this is how it should be. They also have dedicated provision paid for by government. There is a lot of help here in our country for veterans. However, they have to apply, they have to ask to access it, just like anyone else.
Rough sleeping is a really tough one to resolve, for so many reasons.
Firstly, there’s a large percentage of rough sleepers who have addictions, usually drugs and/or alcohol, and this can make them volatile and difficult to both handle and to find them acceptable accommodation.
We desparately need far more residential rehabs for these people. They simply cannot be housed whilst addicted.
Andy Burnham did a pretty good job in Manchester, but he’ll soon find out that it’s a different kettle of fish trying to resolve this countrywide.
He could start by addressing those houses in every county, up and down Britain, currently left empty 100% of the time.
We have so many issues he needs to address and it’s going to take time and shedloads of money to resolve these issues.
Whether you’re prepared to admit it or not, if the small boats suddenly stopped overnight and we deported all the remaining waiting to be processed, very little would actually change overnight, or even in the foreseeable future.
Austerity and massive cuts in services for 14 years have helped lead us to this place, coupled with Brexit and Covid. We have massive staff shortages in so many crucial areas.
We need to address the issues these things caused and are continuing to cause.
When you then add in things like hotter and hotter weather and unpredictable weather events worldwide, we will the see the effects of these in droughts and food production.
This is not the time to keep on blaming anyone “different” to ourselves for our own country’s and worldwide problems.
Now is time to unite and realise only by working together and supporting each other, along with possible rises in income tax, can we fund and get through all the things affecting this country and others.
I’m sure some of will have a, but……
That’s entirely your prerogative.
My post, is entirely mine! (IMHO)
Enjoy your day and have a peaceful weekend
