How do you apply your eye makeup ? Long gone are the days of smooth eyelids and flicks with eyeliner,, what colours do you use? I was recommended at a cosmetic counter that taupes and beige/Browns were the colours , I bought them(am so gullible). Only to look really tired when I applied the colours, As for eyeliner I can't get a smooth look with my crepey eyelids, !

Browns make me look awful, as if I have been crying. I use a charcoal-coloured eye shadow, which I apply with a brush close to upper and lower lashes instead of liner and then lightly smudge over the lid. I use a tubing mascara, recommended by Gnetters, which never runs, clumps or gives panda eyes yet cleans off with a 30 second soak with a pad wetted with plain water. The one I use is L'Oreal Double Extensions, a 2-ended one with a white primer.
My eyes used to be my best feature but decidedly saggy and crepey now sad.

I stick to pencil eyeliner and mascara now. I tried the tubing mascara but found I had small black bits around my eyes or cheeks at random times in the day! I’m going back to my favourite Max Factor false lash effect.

I was advised by another salesgirl on cosmetics to try mauve with my hazel eyes , that was a disaster too, I looked like I had been up all night /crying, There must be a colour out there for me!!

My eyes were also my best feature - sadly no longer - but my glasses hide a multitude of sins nowadays. I concentrate on my cheekbones now.

Cheekbones? I was at the back of the queue when they were handed out as well as the one for slender neck and chin!

Shysal what is your hair, skin and brow colouring ?

shysal Sat 10-Mar-18 16:09:32

Nina, dark brown wavy hair going grey, skin which holds a tan most of the year and sparse brown brows which need grey/brown pencilling in these days. Eyes are medium brown/hazel.

We can’t really expect our eyes to be a wonderful feature in our 60’s and 70’s though, can we?
I use either grey or taupe eye shadow when I use it at all ( rarely) and only pencil liner under eyes.
The thing to avoid is shiny eye shadow, use matt instead and powder the eyelid lightly first.

I use a bluey grey shadow on lids and a small amount of white just below the eyebrows. I never mastered eyeliner but I do use mascara. It is the same as I have done for years. I agree about mauve or brown looking as if there had been crying going on.
