Beards; yea or nay?

My brother has been to visit, and I was delighted to see he has removed his beard. I then tried to think if I knew of anyone whose looks are improved by sporting a beard, and couldn’t think of anyone.
What do others think?

Nay! My husband great one years ago, I hated it.☹️

I love beards!! And moustaches, and hairy men in general, really. smile

My son has a beard, I think it suits him. I frequently see those joke picture post on Facebook (usually from younger women) saying that men with beards are more attractive, maybe it’s a generational thing?

Some people suit beards and some don’t. I rather partial to a touch of designer stubble myself.

I think I like Ben Affleck better with a beard. My SiL, after many years in the RN, having to look sharp and clean cut, now wears his hair in a pony tail, and sports a bushy beard. I don't think it's a good look on him, but I don't say anything.

I like how beards always have a hint of ginger in them smile
Lovely!

Hate them, 3 of my grandsons have them and it ages them terribly. My son has a stubble that I don't like but it actually suits him.

H had one for a few years when he was younger which I didn't mind. He would shave it off now and then in summer. Horrid and scratchy when it first grew back. I wouldn't want him to have one now though, too ageing.
DS has one which suits him but he does keep it short, I hate the 'hipster' type.

I don't like facial hair! hmm

My dh has a moustache which is kept trimmed with military precision. I've never known him without it but have seen pics of him without as a younger man.
Of our 4 boys, two have beards, one a stubble one and the other is one of these longer Amish looking ones. A third son has one that comes and goes.

I hate beards , but I have a very hairy son who grows stubble within hours of shaving. I have never ( and I mean never seen DH with anything more than stubble from last nights growth) .

DH and DS both have beards. DSs is most impressive, Very Edwardian. And it suits him.

My last partner had a beard I wasn’t over keen on beards so when he talked about shaving it off I encouraged him but when he did I didn’t think he looked nearly so good it wasn’t that he looked ugly or anything just sort of empty and missing
One thing I do think looks ridiculous is a bald man with a big beard it’s like their heads on upside down

My husband has had one since we got married. It really suits him.

I absolutely hate beards and moustaches. I suppose they make me think of hairy animals. I have never kissed a man with a beard or moustache and I never would. It must be horrible.

I’ve always felt that men who feel a need to grow a lot of facial hair have something to hide or something to prove. It somehow doesn’t reflect well on their personalities.

One of my sons hates shaving and frequently has ‘designer stubble’ (silly description) at weekends and holidays. His wife doesn't seem to mind, but I think it looks awful.

Jane10 Mon 02-Apr-18 07:05:49

I absolutely don't get the supposed attractiveness of the 'hipster' look. Those beards are awful.

mumofmadboys Mon 02-Apr-18 07:25:27

I have never seen my DH without a beard.

OldMeg Mon 02-Apr-18 07:31:10

Goodness gracious Grandma70s how very judgemental.

kittylester Mon 02-Apr-18 07:35:13

My DH hasn't got anything to hide Grandma70s

Santa type beards, no! A bit of long stubble, yes!

Grandma70s Mon 02-Apr-18 08:11:06

I was only saying what I have always felt. I’m not saying I’m right. Now beards are so much more common than they were, I expect there is a greater variety of men who have them. They were very unusual when I was younger. ( I am older than many of you.)

When I was at university, the only person who had a beard was the extremely pretentious, but quite talented president of the Dramatic Society. I expect that has affected my opinion for life!

Greyduster Mon 02-Apr-18 08:38:54

I’m afraid I’m not a lover of beards. DH had a moustache at one time, and I could just about put up with that. My son has had a beard for some time, and on the couple of times he has shaved it off, it has taken years off him! I think it makes him look like Bluto out of the Popeye cartoons grin!

sodapop Mon 02-Apr-18 08:44:40

I think its just a case of beards and moustaches suit some people and not others. I must admit to not liking straggly unkempt beards. I do like them to be neatly trimmed for looks and hygiene. Not sure if my moustache suits me or not !!

Jillsewing Mon 02-Apr-18 09:06:09

I hate all beards I have never ever seen a man I like in them. They make me shudder. When they are long I hate them more. I am so waiting for the fashion to change!
