Central heating hokey cokey

I honestly don't know if heating should be on or off . (UK )
The days here veer from sunny to rainy it still seems cold one hour and warmer the next.

Reminds me of the hokey cokey when invariably I'd be having the wrong arm/leg in or out.

I tend to put on a thick sweater and big socks and sit it out whereas other half is prone to proclaiming "what is wrong with you, put the heating on". He hates to see me cold.

Are you on or off at moment?

Well, we're into double figures today in Scotland, hurrah! No way would anything ever get me into the sea here, though. grin

We pay much the same for a large 4 bedroomed 500 year old listed property. No double glazing, internal insulation to 3 bedrooms and 12 inches of insulation in the roof.

But we do not have the heating on as much or as high as you do Teetime (see above). In the bitterly cold weather (like the Beast from the East) we light our wood stove during the day, which after a couple of days heats up the huge brick chimney stack in the centre of the house, and that acts like a storage radiator.

Wish we had heating to put on.
Our heating was not on when we came back from a trip at the beginning of March.
Engineer got it working for a few days and it went down again(I'll not go into all the issues)
We are now waiting the the heating engineers to come(next Monday) to re-pipe our system and install a new boiler.
At the moment we are all layered up with clothes and use hot water bottles to keep warm while watching TV in the evening. Oh and thank goodness for electric blankets.

I'm sitting here now freezing cold probably because I am immobile. I have a cold wet nose like a dog!

Never turn mine off - just set the thermostat in the hall and it comes on if the temperature in the flat goes below 20 degrees. In a heatwave I would just flick that down to 15 degrees as obviously cool evenings come as a relief. I didn't have central heating until I was 35 and I vowed then I would never shiver indoors again - I would go without food first if it came to that.

Snap.
Our boiler was replaced two weeks ago. We shivered through the beast from the east type weather while waiting for the replacement.

Ours is also on a thermostat and it's still coming on now and again, but not as much as through the winter, thank goodness. We had the wood-burning stove on last night though.
