The Things People Do!

I once watched a woman give herself full manicure and polish in a cafè.

I know,I know Teetime.
These days I am an avid people watcher and believe me it is quite a sport!
Our M & S cafe is upstairs with picture windows overlooking a large car park..........we are spoilt for scenery in this part of the world!!!!...........and the things one witnesses from "up on high" has me chuckling away for hours.
As for people rushing past,leaving doors fly in your face,with no thought of your safety this is almost an art ..............no consideration for those with mobility problems obviously .Whilst the greatest "offenders" has to be those busily walking at a pace seemingly talking to themselves (until you spot the phone!!) or worse still texting whilst walking,regardless of whom they bump into.........or mow down in the case of an elderly frail person.
Another bugbear and danger to humanity are these quite lethal looking huge buggies that seem to get bigger and bigger allowing all manner of extras (such as shopping bags) bulking them out even further!
Whilst so many sling huge bags across their shoulders totally disregarding how the corners very often catch a passer by and can give quite a jolt.
People simply do not stop or think.I hope I am not one of them!!
The street or store can be quite a dangerous place if you do not have ALL your wits about you!!
I have yet to see someone examining their feet at a table, but it surprises me not.
Folk seem to forget they are out in the public domain and simply everything is just not on!!

Whilst its true M & S is mecca for us older generation, believe me much the same is being repeated in any store in any place Situp.........I was looking out on a wide open car park remember whereupon many well known Stores have their businesses........Please do not let me halt your "comings and goings" in that one certain store!!!

Panache I do so agree about the bags slung across the shoulder - these people seem to have no spatial awareness.

Those with backpacks are totally oblivious of the fact that the pack is pressing into the face of the person behind them. Another bug bear of mine are those with pull along trolleys or suitcases, they seem completely unaware that as they pull the darn things along they are bashing someone's ankles or even, as I saw at one time, knocking over a small child.

Yes, I’m with you on the trolleys, panache. I’ve had a few near misses with those things. I know they are very useful, and better than carrying heavy shopping bags, but some users are just not very considerate of others around them when using them.
I agree about the back packs and mobile phones, too. I think the mobile phone issue is my biggest bugbear - these folks wandering around, not looking where they are going, not aware of their surroundings, are an absolute menace!!

Worry not Mapleleaf..........there are at least 2 or 3 of us competing for the same title!!!

These people are so totally unaware that, in fact, they are hazards and a walking/talking time bomb,banging heedlessly into every one around.

Perhaps there should be a law........................I am going to get banned from mankind I guess soon!!!

Yuck!! Teetime

I think I've mentioned the time I was in the dentist's waiting room watching someone eating a packet of crisps, a bar of chocolate and then drinking a can of coke. What happened to cleaning your teeth before a dental appointment!

Maybe they were celebrating after the appt while waiting for someone else !

I've just come out of the Harrogate Spring Flower Show, fortunately my ankles are still intact! The number of times I've been whacked by someone towing one of those boxes on wheels is beyond counting. Also, DH and I treated ourselves to the three course lunch that they offer. We were seated beside the door, and I had to get up more than once to close it, while I was eating. People would look in and turn around and walk away but not close the door behind them.

Where oh! where are those simple thoughts for others and manners?

I’ve found walking with a stick a great benefit. But I am a bit lethal with it if anyone comes too close, and it is a bit worn now so makes a satisfying tapping sound so people know I’m coming. My DH walks behind as he says I cut a swathe through the shoppers!

We were once in a restaurant in Bruges and the woman at the table next to us started flossing her teeth. Though I think on th Yuk Scale the feet have it.

I passed a café recently, glanced in, and saw a man seated at a table shaving with his electric razor!

Since I`ve needed a stick when out, I can`t carry more than one bag anymore, so have bought a shopping trolley. But ever mindful of hitting someone with it, I don`t drag it behind me, I push it in front of myself.

A friend and I were having afternoon tea in Debenhams recently when we were joined by 2 other women at our table. Both of them opened their handbags, whipped out their hairbrushes and brushed their hair. One even tipped her head forward, so that her hair cascaded onto the table, so that she could give it a good brushing. We were and quickly moved.

In total and complete contrast I got on the London Underground today complete with stick and saw every seat full when in a split second virtually the whole compartment stood to offer me a seat! I accepted one and we all giggled and took our places. It was an amazing experience

Why, in the past, did we not need lessons, or telling, that it is
Infra dig to whip out bare feet, and start fiddling, or brushing hair at any table in a cafe?
It does amaze me what people do casually in public.When exactly did things change so that people care so little for anyone else?
This includes personal hygene and dress as well as manners.
How far will things go?

The writing was on the wall I suppose when some people started doing their shopping or taking their children to school whilst still in their pyjamas.

Personally, my greatest bugbear is people riding those mobility scooters! They may be old, disabled or just too fat to walk, but they roar along the pavement with teeth gritted and determined look on face - I just have to leap out of the way and hope to god I'm quick enough!

Kids on bikes! We have a paved street in town and the number of youths who cycle down it at speed is ridiculous - several times one's whizzed past me without me knowing it was there - worrying they could knock someone over if they just happened to turn into a shop at the wrong moment! And don't get me started on people on flights who fling their seat back to it's max regardless of the person behind (usually my husband!!)

Willow my fit healthy brother was knocked over by a idiot riding a push bike on the pavement. The rider was middle aged. I dread to think of the consequences if my brother had been infirm at the time.

‘Manners maketh man’, not anymore it doesn’t. Grooming in public was strictly a no, no, or that’s what I was brought up to believe. It seems it is necessary and healthy to expose publicly not just you’re body, grief, anger, but dirty habits to everyone, if they don’t like it tough, if they’re in your way shove them out of it. This is all about consideration for those around us, we need to teach this tour children and grandchildren.
