sparkly, funny you should say that - I was thinking about old Sir Les as I went out this morning - too late to post!

I tried a very acceptable little Australian Riesling the other day here in the UK - made a lovely change from yer actual Chardonnay!

An update; I believe Fosters is not as popular as it once was with the barby drinks trolley likely to contain more up market refreshments such as Chardonnay and Shiraz.
That ubiquitous Aussie icon, the bush fly, however, is still ever present.

You're right about the Opera House icon being cultural, but you've omitted all the other icons.

Aussie football, Soccer, Cricket (not so just now!), Swimming, Netball, Hockey, Tennis etc. etc.
Plenty of culture there, of a sort, and extremely popular.

Since I heard the dashingly handsome German tenor on Last night of the Proms , I listen to him almost daily on U-tube where he has dozens of 5 minute films about him, singing or talking in German, French, Italian or English.

I like lots of music, but for "music for the soul" Runrig take some beating.

Well OP, I'm with you on this one. When I saw that thread on knickers, I fainted clean away! I'm very glad I didn't see the one on "boobs and tits" because that would have been too much for my laydeee like sensibilities. It's quite shocking what the older generation get up to these days isn't it? Next thing you know they'll be riding motorbikes, wearing trendy clothes and whispers having sex.

Rufus I seem to remember, when you first posted on GN, that I tried to offer a friendly word of advice.
I referred to a poster who made himself very unpopular with his rather tasteless and salacious comments ( the aforementioned 'bloke') and said that if you avoid that level of "humour" you'd be welcome on GN. So far so good on that score.
I also suggested that you should avoid patronising us.

My idea of culture isn’t really listening to a German chap speaking/singing with perfect diction, but, hey ho each to his own.

What has light tuneful music (which I like BTW) got to do with culture? Where is your Bach, or Brahms, or Benjamin Britten?
