Good Afternoon:
Tired of all the nonsense in other threads concerning knickers, tits and boobs? grin
Wishing to enjoy your cultural side?
I recommend beautiful, soothing music.
Open Google, type "Max Raabe" (without the quotes) in the search box, Enter and select the YouTube option.
You then see a drop-down cascade of thumbnail videos and away you go.!
Many of you may already be on to this; I'm not trying to teach you how to suck eggs, but I've only found this recently and I'm captivated. It's on all the time whilst I'm wrestling with other computer matters; very soothing and excellent therapy.
For the record; Max is German, sings mostly in English and German: word-perfect with perfect diction and his 12-piece orchestra plays mostly the old favourites such as "Singing in the Rain, Cheek to Cheek, J'attendrai", etc etc.
Marvellous! If you like light tuneful music you'll be captivated too.

Good Health

sparkly, funny you should say that - I was thinking about old Sir Les as I went out this morning - too late to post! grin

I tried a very acceptable little Australian Riesling the other day here in the UK - made a lovely change from yer actual Chardonnay!

Rufus2 Tue 01-May-18 13:47:32

And who remembers Sir Les Patterson, Australia's Cultural Attache
Thank you all for your contributions! smile
And of course sparkly1000. remiss of me to omit Sir Les., Cultural attache to the Court of St James, and also not to forget his sidekick, Dame Edna. grin
Together with Benny hill (Bless him) and Frankie Howard they would have made a wonderful quartet of cultural icons. grin grin

An update; I believe Fosters is not as popular as it once was with the barby drinks trolley likely to contain more up market refreshments such as Chardonnay and Shiraz. confused
That ubiquitous Aussie icon, the bush fly, however, is still ever present. angry

Good Health wine wine

And who remembers Sir Les Patterson, Australia's Cultural Attache?

Anniebach Tue 01-May-18 09:02:27

Pity the Australian cricket team cheated

Greyduster Tue 01-May-18 08:32:50

Wasn’t Dame Joan Sutherland an Aussie? Great lady, stupendous voice.

cavewoman Tue 01-May-18 08:17:26

I'll be bringing a Fosters or two along to the 'Baaarbe' grin

BlueBelle Tue 01-May-18 07:44:43

Blimey Rufus you forgot the biggest culture of them all....the ‘Baaarbe’ of course ??

Rufus2 Tue 01-May-18 06:43:25

I have been told that 'Australian' and 'Culture' do not belong in the same sentence

Jalima1108
You can't be serious? No Smileys! How long ago were you told? shock
You're right about the Opera House icon being cultural, but you've omitted all the other icons.

Aussie football, Soccer, Cricket (not so just now!), Swimming, Netball, Hockey, Tennis etc. etc.
Plenty of culture there, of a sort, and extremely popular. grin

Cheers and Good Health

GrannyQ, that`s so true!

grannyqueenie Sun 29-Apr-18 22:19:16

Like you I enjoy a whole variety of music callgirl but Runrig reaches places that other music just doesn’t touch!

MargaretX Sun 29-Apr-18 21:51:20

His name is Jonas Kaufmann

MargaretX Sun 29-Apr-18 21:50:06

Since I heard the dashingly handsome German tenor on Last night of the Proms , I listen to him almost daily on U-tube where he has dozens of 5 minute films about him, singing or talking in German, French, Italian or English.

callgirl1 Sun 29-Apr-18 20:39:05

I like lots of music, but for "music for the soul" Runrig take some beating.

Jalima1108 Sun 29-Apr-18 13:11:00

I have been told that 'Australian' and 'Culture' do not belong in the same sentence.

Of course, I had to disagree - they do have a famous Opera House.

MawBroon Sun 29-Apr-18 12:53:34

Mozart.
End of.

BlueBelle Sun 29-Apr-18 12:14:07

paddyann Sun 29-Apr-18 11:36:59

for nice laid back 30's style I like Stacey Kent and her fabulous saxophonist husband Jim Tomlinson ,Currently listening to folk by a band called Folky Macfolkface ,good new songs ,written by the band .Later I may listen to some of the wonderful Eric Bibb, a bit of blues/gospel/soul/rock and roll .Whatever floats your boatof course .Enjoy your german man .Just off the turntable is Hugh Masakela who I was fortunate to see live and meet in Edinburgh. The world is a sadder place without him since his recent death

Chewbacca Sun 29-Apr-18 10:26:21

Well OP, I'm with you on this one. When I saw that thread on knickers, I fainted clean away! I'm very glad I didn't see the one on "boobs and tits" because that would have been too much for my laydeee like sensibilities. It's quite shocking what the older generation get up to these days isn't it? Next thing you know they'll be riding motorbikes, wearing trendy clothes and whispers having sex. shock

Rufus I seem to remember, when you first posted on GN, that I tried to offer a friendly word of advice.
I referred to a poster who made himself very unpopular with his rather tasteless and salacious comments ( the aforementioned 'bloke') and said that if you avoid that level of "humour" you'd be welcome on GN. So far so good on that score.
I also suggested that you should avoid patronising us.
Tread warily!

BlueBelle Sun 29-Apr-18 08:51:51

Nothing wrong with knicks and tits eh Kitty

kittylester Sun 29-Apr-18 08:25:18

I'm with you BlueBelle!

I also like knicker threads and the like!!

BlueBelle Sun 29-Apr-18 08:03:11

Give me Bob Marley, sam Cooke jimmy Ruffin any day

M0nica Sun 29-Apr-18 07:25:32

For me, nothing soothes the troubled soul like the music of Beethoven, especially his piano music.

Situpstraight Sun 29-Apr-18 07:24:27

Well Rufus, if you're tired of the other threads then start one that you are interested in.
My idea of culture isn’t really listening to a German chap speaking/singing with perfect diction, but, hey ho each to his own.

Greyduster Sun 29-Apr-18 07:10:31

What has light tuneful music (which I like BTW) got to do with culture? Where is your Bach, or Brahms, or Benjamin Britten?
