Royal wedding obsession!

There's no getting away from it - they've just been banging on about it on Classic FM, which I'm listening to in the dining room - just went into kitchen for another coffee - Dh in there listening to Radio 4 - and they were on about it, too.

I do wish them happy and I hope the sun shines for them on Saturday, but....
Oh, and tins of Royal Wedding biscuits in M&S!!

I'll be in London with daughter, son-in-law and two grandkids. Going to the park and having lunch. Will probably watch the highlights on BBC in the evening. What gets me is that coverage starts at 6am! six hours of flannel - heaven help us.

I am not interested in the Royal wedding and have not followed any of the hype about the engagement, but this is nothing new for me. I didn’t watch William and Kate’s, and was in the US and slept while Charles and Di got married (it was nighttime there)
I obviously wish them well, and a long and happy life as I would any couple but these are two strangers getting married? so I cannot see why the general public are planning to wear special clothes and all the fuss.
If the Royals had paid for every town to have a free street party that might have been a nice gesture though and one they could easily afford.

I wish them well and hope they have lovely day but I shall not be watching it. As others said, could be a good day for the garden centre.

Besstwishes I apologise for offending your sensibilities...I didn't realise ENGLAND and Royalty were one and the same thing .In fact my ENGLISH aunts and cousins are republicans too,so you have confused me.Are they and I not supposed to criticise "royalty"? Thats shocking I had supposed England was still a country where there is freedom of speech .I must tell my English relatives to keep schtum about it all ..will they be off to the tower for their opinions? We who are NOT interested are subjected to TV and radio and newspaper coverage of what is apparently the first royal wedding we've ALL been invited to...its taking over the news ..so its hard to avoid.

I really don't care about this couple. She's been married before. Just go off and quietly tie the knot if they want to but don't expect this massive, overdone festival of self indulgent quasi romantic nonsense to mean anything.

paddyann Tue 15-May-18 18:32:06

Besstwishes thing is with a Prsident you can vote them out and generally(Trump aside) they dont have hangers on that have to be supported forever and a day ..or dozens of houses to be upkept .If you're happy to be a knee bender keep on bending .I dont think ..in fact I know they are no better than the people I know who WORK hard for a living and dont expect special treatment for a made up title .

I just want to see if anyone can top the "Prize for the Silliest Hat" competition, remember the one worn by one of the York girls, that apart from making her look like a Tele Tubbie in waiting, meant she couldn't actually sit upright in the car/minibus that was taking them! I giggled so much I almost needed a new Tenalady! blush grin

Well, I’ll be watching on Saturday with my DBF, fizz and cake and don’t give a monkey’s what anyone else thinks. I’m perfectly capable of choosing what I watch and listen to - anything I’ve heard about the big day so far is from Gransnet. smile

Maggiemaybe Tue 15-May-18 18:44:00

Yes, phoenix, one of the highlights should be seeing what Fergie’s two are wearing this time.

Chewbacca Tue 15-May-18 18:45:55

My favourite was the pretzel hat. It was awesomely hideous and I'm hoping for something even better this time. grin

Maggiemaybe Tue 15-May-18 18:46:53

Aw, Chewbacca, thanks for the memory! grin

Chewbacca Tue 15-May-18 18:51:47

Or the frisbee?

Maggiemaybe Tue 15-May-18 19:08:07

Exquisite!

phoenix Tue 15-May-18 19:30:01

That's the one Chewbacca! Does anyone else remember her having to sit with her head almost on her knees in whatever vehicle she was in?

I still think that must have been knicker wetting laughing among the design team, along the lines of "NO!, Don't tell me she actually went for it! REALLY??? It was meant to be a joke, wasn't it?" grin

muffinthemoo Tue 15-May-18 19:39:06

IIRC Beatrice auctioned the hat for charity after the public response to it, she took it in good spirit!

I doubt she will be wearing anything so directional to her own upcoming wedding though haha

It's Eugenie, not Beatrice, who is getting married later on in the year and I hope Kate gets her own back!

Baggs Tue 15-May-18 21:23:02

I wouldn't be surprised if they got paid to wear those hats.

lemongrove Tue 15-May-18 21:34:29

Funnily enough, I don’t think that there has been all that much hype about this wedding, not nearly as much as Charles and Diana or William and Kate.
Mind you, I rarely read the newspapers.
It will soon be over anyway.

ginny Wed 16-May-18 08:41:57

I wish them luck but otherwise no particularly interested. I’ll probably look in to see what people are wearing otherwise it is the garden centre for us.

sodapop Wed 16-May-18 09:05:48

I'm with you Maggiemaybe unfortunately I am at my volunteer job in the morning but I will be recording the wedding to watch later. At least I will be able to skip all the boring bits
wine

Blinko Wed 16-May-18 09:11:43

I'll be watching on Saturday, bubbly and chocs to hand, but even I am fed up with the hoo hah about Meghan's Dad and whether or not he'll put in an appearance. As for 'walking her down the aisle', her Mom will do it just fine. Lets hear no more about the Dad, fhs!

lilypollen Wed 16-May-18 10:27:45

Shame she doesn't have a trusty old male friend to step in if dad doesn't make it. I know this wedding is bucking the traditional trend but it just feels wrong to me if mom does it.

Anniebach Wed 16-May-18 12:31:25

In some things I am a traditionalist, I hope she can find a man to escort her down the aisle . Hope she does have the little ones walk ahead of her.

6 bridesmaids and 4 page boys ! Hope little Charlotte waves her way down the aisle ?

I shall watch, I like watching weddings, not interested in the bride , like looking at the guests and their hats ?

Terry Hutt set up camp opposite the Castle gates last night. He's the 83 year old Royal superfan!
