Creeping Rugs

Anyone got any ideas on how to stop rugs on top of carpets from going walkies? They drive me nuts.

I have 2 runners with rubber backings and when on hard floors they are fine but they creep daily when on my carpets.

I have used all sorts of felt style mats to stop this but all they do is cling to the carpet and allow the runners to run..

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Try John Lewis, they sell an under thingy which is super.
I have one for several years and the rug has never moved a centimetre.

Me too. I have bought rug holders from John Lewis as we have lots of mats on top of our carpets. They stay in place well.

Maybe a silly question, but why do you need a rug on top of a carpets?

I've got a hearth rug that goes walkies. I've tried all sorts of things to stop it but none of them have worked. I'll have to look at John Lewis.

Geri, I use a rug in front of our open fire to save the carpet from sparks. We had some really 'spitty' logs this past winter, which threw out big chunks of fiery ash, and gave my cats a fright!

I haven't found a 100% solution to creeping rugs yet, although Dunelm sell a sort of interliner which minimises it.

I have a big circular rug on a wooden floor. It’s never where it is supposed to be - in the middle of the room. I’ve just learned to enjoy the novelty of never knowing where it will take up residence from one day to the next.

I have a rubber backed Lakeland door mat on top of my carpet inside the front door and it is always on the move. I bought some sort of webbing from Amazon but that was useless. I will check out John Lewis for their under 'thingy'!
Thank you annsixty.

Old Meg the thingy from John Lewis works on wooden floors too. You use it "upside down" to the carpet side.

DanniRae Sun 20-May-18 16:14:05

What should I call the thingy when I go on the John Lewis web site?

Non stick rug hold.
They come in various sizes and I had to cut mine to fit exactly.
Mine cost approx £55, so worth it.

Thank you annsixty for answering my question smile

My mum’s got this sort of thing and it seems to work for her?

Nothing stops our rugs from travelling, it’s all part of their charm.grin Even a very large rug with an amazingly heavy dining table and six chairs on top of it does it’s best to inch it’s way to the window and has to be brought back about once a month.

I have tried numerous antis lip backings none of which worked. I have a rug on top of my bedroom carpet where I walk most. I googled it and someone said in the end he used tacks and a hammer and I am confessing now that is what I did. Sounds terrible I know but it works I will however keep John Lewis in mind. although I would have to order on line ( I'm in N.Ireland)

I'm also in N I. Yesterday I bought a packet of webbing sort of stuff in Dunelm at 9.99. It's supposed to secure a mat to either carpet or a hard floor.
We shall see smile

I had a round rug on top of a carpet in the hall which used to walk nearly up the stairs. I bought a spray which was tacky and that stopped it. I can't remember what it was called but I think it came from a DIY shop.

I use it as a form of exercise: keep bending down putting them straight grin

Me too petra my walkabout rug on a carpet has dining table and chairs on it, how that moves I shall never know, dgd suggested it could be a magic carpet?

I have a patterned walking rug over a plain carpet. I have the rug to cover up the dirty patches that appear on a daily basis in spite of cleaning! When it walks I can see what colour the carpet should really be hmm

Cool gran 65...I've tried it. Doesn't work with my rug on carpet but let me know if yours works.

annep Mon 28-May-18 23:35:37

annep Mon 28-May-18 23:36:55
