Nesh - for a sickly type who feels the cold easily. If someone doesn't believe or understand what you've just said in the East Midlands the traditional response was ,"a-^were^" with the emphasis very much on the second syllable which would be drawn out - I've never heard this anywhere else. In this case you'd also look at the speaker 'gone-out.'
