Flying with hand luggage only

If you're only going for a few days though, and buy at the airport, you end up out of pocket as you have to leave it all behind afterwards. Perhaps that's just me being tight! I did once come to grief waiting to buy my dry shampoo at the airport, only to discover that Boots was closed for refurbishment.

A few years ago we flew with just hand luggage.
I bought our toiletries, make up and Sun tan lotion (plus sandwiches and bottled water for the flight,) at the airport from Boots with the help of Boots points saved throughout the year.
So no problem taking liquids on the plane.

The best bit for me was walking straight out of airport instead of waiting to grab several cases from the dreaded carousel.

Tanith you’ve been VERY. lucky I lost something just because I couldn’t do the sliding fastener up so they insisted on taking it out. I certainly wouldn’t bank on trying that one NonnaW or you will probably lose one bag of things
If you’re in any doubt the staff outside the departure gates are usually very helpful with advice what is and what isn’t acceptable

tanith, I like your style! I used to fob half my stuff off onto DH, but Manchester Airport has started insisting his inhalers go in his plastic bag, so he doesn’t have the space now. I need contact lenses and dry shampoo as well as the usual gubbins, so I might try your way next time. I always keep my lipstick in my handbag and haven’t been challenged yet.

I’m a frequent flyer short haul and take small plastic screw on containers you can buy at Superdrug or Wilco and decant the amount of shampoo etc I think I’ll need for the trip. Failing that, Boots at the airport sell the travel sized little tubes of anything I’ve forgotten. I buy the factor 50 sun lotion for face and that doubles up as a moisturiser. If staying in a hotel you don’t need many toiletries. You can squash quite a lot of makeup into the small clear bag.

someone I know told me about it and so I put in some things I didn’t mind losing the first time and was surprised that no one said anything so if I struggle to fit it in one bag I take another and put in things like deodorant,toothpaste that’s easily replaced not expensive makeup. ?

A few times I’ve taken through two bags putting each one in a different tray at security as I’ve always had to use two trays for all my things I’ve never been asked about the second bag.

Or if there is a Boots at the airport buy stuff there when you have gone through security!

I always fly with hand luggage only (well obviously not long haul) there is not really a problem with the plastic bag you need most makeup in not powder of course I have my contact lense bottle underarm deorant small travel size toothpaste and small perfume as well as make up If you ve got too much you can always buy toothpaste or suncreams etc when you arrive Savers donlots if small amount travel items cheap No restriction on how many bits as long as it fits with the bag sealed up and nothings only 100 ml

You can only take 100ml bottles that fit into a closed 20x20cm clear plastic bag.

And Jalima this will be a test for us too, probably harder for DH than me as he always overpacks.

Yes, NonnaW, including tubes of insect bite cream etc.

I have never managed just hand luggage.
I wish I could, but I seem to be a 'just might need that' type of person.

In fact basically everything does but I find dh doesn’t use his allowance so he has some of mine?

So does lip balm, lipstick etc and stick deodorant.

Up to 100ml are allowed but toothpaste does count as a liquid.
