Flying with hand luggage only

We should be ok as we have paid for priority boarding so bags ought to go in the overhead lockers. I bought a bag yesterday in Superdrug but I will need to get another, which DH will have to carry. I’m sure we’ll be fine, if they take anything off us we’ll have to buy it there.

If I took all my medication in original packaging I'd need an extra case! Mine is all tablets though so doesn't need to go in the little plastic bag. I sort the pills into a travel case & carry the prescription, I declare it but have never been queried.

Regards your case being put in the hold because the racks are full, try a travel waistcoat aka fishing vest with loads of pockets - looks awful but very practical for wanted on voyage items.

One warning - you can't carry a walking pole so if you need a walking aid you have to take a stick which is obviously for medical purposes.

It's a term I have used on here which I thought would be understandable to other posters - not one I would call someone.

It might be a common enough epithet - that doesn’t mean it’s always used fairly - in fact I know it isn’t.

But seriously Jal I really do see examples of over entitled extremely rude people in my neck of the woods talking to staff in ways that are extremely unacceptable, accusing them of being a jobsworth when,having observed the whole encounter, I’ve seen a person trying to do his job properly and being treated like rubbish by a member of the public- I think that’s why I’m a bit sensitive to this.

No, have been through airport security so many times and I know exactly which airports they will tend to be efficient and courteous and doing their job thoroughly and where there may be one or two awkward jobsworths.

I would include a local parking attendant in that category too - hovering by cars trying to slap on fines before people have managed to buy their tickets.
In fact his local nickname is worse than jobsworth.

“Jobsworth” is a common enough epithet.

The way you used the word on here was not in that context Jal but just having a go at people checking which is what they are supposed to do. If they are not doing it properly that’s another issue and I know it’s happened. I just think it’s a horrible word to use and quite lazy in fact.

and in the meantime - someone who could be a danger to the public manages to get through unchallenged which is what happened when we were at airport security.

Imo the use of the word ‘jobsworth’ is pretty unpleasant. Whatever we think of the security rules, who do we think we are to think that we can play fast and loose with them and then criticise those whose job is to enforce them and who would be roundly condemned if they didn’t and something happened? I’ve been listening to the Grenfell enquiry today - pity there weren’t a few ‘jobsworths’ around making sure that rules and regulations were enforced.

I'm a big fan of 'the jobsworths'! It's really annoying to see all the people with colossal pull along cases and huge rucksacks crushing everyone else's bags in the overhead lockers.
Nobody actually likes paying for hold baggage or waiting for the carousel at the other end. Obviously as we're considerate of others we must be stupid!! There must be a descriptive term for those who expect to cram in huge' hand luggage' items but I'm too considerate to use it! Go the jobsworths!!

I always use one of those little travel bags like a little purse you wear round your neck I put passport, boarding card, phone in that. My purse I wear in a money belt. Saves rooting through pockets, having to squash your handbag into your case. I take a small handbag and tote bag to use on my trip which I pack in my case.

I use lens-cases to fill up with daycream (white side) and night-cream (blue side). Astonishing how much you get in! You can put a few of them in the plastic bag, nobody ever demands to open them! I also save up the samples I get when I buy my regular toiletries, like daycream etc., that is a start for going on holidays,

tanith had to smile at you setting off the scanner ? I only mentioned the scanning the boarding card & putting it in the tray as this was new (to me, anyway) and they seemed to be being a bit more rigorous with the checks. Airports do vary though, sometimes they seem to do a lot more checking than others.
