Thoroughly enjoyed watching the opening match last night with my 8 year old footy mad grandson . And what a match it was too, 5-0 to the hosts Russia . The Saudis might not have been on the pitch at all .
Teresa May has stepped in to say that the Royal Mail workers and others should be allowed to fly the English flag during the tournament, after the misery guts at RM banned it’s workers from doing so. Quite right too .
I have no interest at all in football but other half is a fanatic. However, our local area has turned it into a huge community spirit exercise. Last week a local man paid for England flags to be flown on all the lamposts here along a main road. The next day some lowlife came and cut them all down--it's been caught on CCTV. Our area Facebook page appealed for more flags and were inundated with them plus,it's resulted in road after road flying them.Lovely to see everyone showing community spirit and would be wonderful if it continues when the World Cup is over
I agree, we can but dream. I did not see much of the Croatia match last night so I do not know if they are foul players or not. It was so pleasant to see England and Sweden playing decent football. There was some grabbing of tops but it was not too bad.
Young Jordan excelled himself with his goal keeping skills.
ITV Wednesday and I will be there at 7pm- dare I open a bottle of wine or would that be chancing it?
A local lad too Charleygirl trainer at Sunderland Academy . I would have loved to hear what he was shouting yesterday ( he did plenty of it) although many might not have understood his accent
OMG I can't believe that we have got this far.......it's like an impossible dream........one more match and we are in THE FINAL. COME ON ENGLAND!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm beginning to find it a bit nerve wracking. Shall we all wear waistcoats tomorrow and practice a bit of mindfulness during the day as a means of supporting our team.
