Good Morning all

Just popped in with some homemade Ginger Biscuits! Hello Doodle I will try my best not to lurk, but this thread moves so fast and I lose my way!

Thank you for the good wishes for my partner, he is home now and the Operation went well. It remains to be seen if it works.

I travel over to Lichfield tomorrow to look after 9 year old DGD, her 14 year old sister will be there, no doubt upstairs on her phone! So today I am having a quiet day before the busy day ahead tomorrow.

mcem Tue 14-Aug-18 08:19:38

My 2 are back to school today.
Bright-eyed and bushy-tailed in new uniforms.
Long may the enthusiasm last!

Charleygirl Tue 14-Aug-18 11:25:55

Very early to return to school- around here in London it is around the 4th September- give or take a day.

NonnaW Tue 14-Aug-18 11:33:13

Panic is now setting in. We got the paperwork for putting the house on the market at the weekend, signed it and took it into the office yesterday. Today we got a phone call wanting to arrange a viewing! It all seems very real now.
soop you always look so elegant, hair up or down.
Hope everyone’s ailments are starting to improve and that the cooler weather is helping those of you who struggled with the heat. I must admit, by yesterday I was fed up with the rain!

Agus Tue 14-Aug-18 11:42:24

Not early for state schools in Scotland Charley 4th September is start of term for private schools here.

Both DGDs all organised here too mcem Goodness knows how they will feel about early morning rises after the luxury of rising whenever during the holidays??

Panache Tue 14-Aug-18 11:56:06

Whey there Nonna now the reality, fun and pleasure is beginning,I honestly hope you are very fortunate with your first viewers......very nerve racking and don`t I know it.I am crossing my fingers for you..........

We too have yet more viewers,Doctors with a double barrel name........escaping from London..........viewing the very day the new lot of holiday makers arrive in their droves....... ready to book that prime spot for August Bank Holiday.
We need all the luck in the world ....and some!

Our town today is hosting a 3 day Agricultural show, where all local bussinesses show off their wares, the farmers vie for trophies with their life stock, and their wives do the same with their craft work, bakery, bottling, gardening etc.
It is well attended by not only the local communities but many from ouside our county.........and country.

The weather is being generous, early grey skies giving way to lovely blue ones with warm sunshine.

Our children do not return to schools until the first or even second week in September either Charley.............my word does`nt the time run away with itself?

I have over done my tinee weenie attempt at gardening yesterday...........all 10 minutes or so..........today I am totally as limp as a soggy lettuce, not helped by being told to go back to bed and have a kip by my dear man!

Have a pleasant day folks.

NonnaW Tue 14-Aug-18 12:11:13

panache at least your viewers/potential purchasers will be seeing the worst of the traffic - things can only get better from there on! Good luck, fingers crossed for you.
Our viewers wanted to come today, not possible as we are not at home, it being our regular grandson sitting day. We are waiting a call back to say when they can make it.
Sorry Kitcheners, we seem to be hijacking this thread grin

mcem Tue 14-Aug-18 12:20:56

School term here ended on 1 June so most are happy to be going back.
Just had a visit from my sister - tearful and in need of tea!
Her littlest GC (5 in 2 weeks time) went into primary 1 this morning. Granny saw her in and will collect at 12.
Wee one happy and eager to see her friends from nursery!
(As both of her ACs have 3 children, she knows this is the last one!)

mcem Tue 14-Aug-18 12:47:31

Ooops! Before anyone points out that school hol's north of the border are very generous, I 'd like to say they started at the end and not the beginning of June!
Was a tad discombobulated around then as that was when I foolishly broke my leg!
Blame the painkillers!

soop Tue 14-Aug-18 13:23:55

Skips into computer room and lunges for a seat...what do I find? Scores of new postings. Am I chuffed? You bet.

Our visitor stayed longer than expected. By the time she left, it was too late to return to our kitchen.

NannyJan53 I would really enjoy a couple of your homemade ginger biscuits with my coffee. My favourite by a long way. wink We have bought ones in the cupboard...coated in dark chocolate.

For our Granspals dealing with hoped for sales of property, I send my very best wishes for a pleasant and positive outcome.

For Granspals recovering from grandchildren duties and time spent energetically pottering in the garden, I send my respect. When you get the opportunity, relax a while. It will recharge your batteries.

For all Granspals packing suitcases in readiness for our trip abroad with Ann...don't forget the bling. We can't let the side down. for all we know, we may be photographed at a posh rowdy nightclub and feature on the cover of the Daily Mail. Headline: Rowdy Bevvy of Beauties take Holiday Island by storm. grin shock blush

I remember, when my GS started school as a five year old, feeling rather sad that his babyhood was ending. Now, at 11, he has another new beginning as he starts secondary school. He has a week of Summer School next week which, it seems, is a fun way of accustoming them to their new surroundings hmm. He seems ready and happy to go, as are his friends.
Panache I’m glad your viewers keep coming. Somewhere out there are a nice couple who will love your house; I hope they are not far away. Once the school holidays are over, and things a bit quieter around you, that may be beneficial. With respect to your agricultural show, DH and I love agricultural shows and Country Fairs of all kinds. There is a big one coming up at Chatsworth House in September but it coincides with an art show that I also want to go to and I know I can’t afford to do both! You can end up spending a mint of money on many temptations at these places!
After we left them in Cornwall my Grandson bought me a pretty little bracelet and a bag of sea glass (all white, but I don’t mind!). He gave them to me yesterday and said he wanted me to see if I could make something out of it, so, in addition to a few coloured pieces I already had, I sent him this ‘spot the fish’ photo! I didn’t find any while we were down there - I found my few pieces in Wales - but a visit to the East coast before the summer is out may yield a few more bits!
I must go and have another go at getting my ironing pile down. I will look in later.

annsixty Tue 14-Aug-18 13:45:43

We need to know someone who will be influential enough to get us on an exclusive guest list for the very best clubs soop
I am lacking in such friends, any offers from anyone else?

aggie Tue 14-Aug-18 13:54:42

GS who used to come in for his breakfast ,( last term , but seems years ago) is on his intro week at secondary this week , he is completely unphased by it all . I will miss the 7am rattle of keys in the door ,

soop Tue 14-Aug-18 16:59:56

Ann No worries. Us lot will flash our credentials and be welcome with open arms. What we want, if possible, is club where a very handsome barman mixes upmarket VIP cocktails...and gives us his undivided attention. wink

Greyduster Beautiful! Artistic! Imaginative! Gold star. flowers

Greyduster Tue 14-Aug-18 17:20:58

You know you can get arrested for flashing your credentials, Soop!! I think I ought to come along after all and see that you lot stay out of trouble! If you all end up in some Spanish slammer, who will keep the kitchen going??
Thankyou for the gold star! Praise indeed! ?

soop Tue 14-Aug-18 17:45:19

Greyduster You have to join the rest of us lot because we shall need one respectable member of the gang to keep us on the straight and not too narrow. I've chosen a large suitcase, into which I shall cram all manner of classy outfits. A girl can never have enough clobber. I may pack my coronet. £1:99 from Nickle and Dime. From a distance, in subdued light, it almost passes for the real thing. grin

Log off time. I shall return after ironing duty in the morning. smile moon

callgirl1 Tue 14-Aug-18 21:23:17

You know how to shop in style Soop, Nickle and Dime is one of my first stops in Campbeltown, such a large choice for the discerning shopper. Must admit I`ve never seen their tiara selection, do they have the jewellery to match as well? I can see trouble brewing in Ibiza!

Galen Tue 14-Aug-18 22:33:31

Well, I’ve decided to get rid of my almost unused Kenwood chef with all the accessories. I’m going to offer it to darling daughter when she visits at the weekend along with sil and hordes of sprigs (all three of them including the home wrecker 2 yr old)
I suspect she won’t want it so I’ve then got to decide what to do with it. I can’t manage eBay so any suggestions?

ChaosIncorporated Wed 15-Aug-18 06:48:34

All a bit busy here, so just sticking a head in to say hello.
Send me a riotous postcard! I cannot attend due to a travel ban imposed after the tequila incident on the saga tour

cornergran Wed 15-Aug-18 07:13:35

For selling things I’ve used Gumtree galen, much easier than eBay in my view, all local and people know they have to collect. I understand there are local Facebook pages having success, I don’t use Facebook but family do and have offered if needed. Alternatively does your daughter or a friend use eBay? If they do maybe they would mastermind it for you. If you’re happy to donate the Heart Foundation take electrical things and I would think a Kenwood would be very welcome. Sorry, all out of ideas now. Your weekend won’t be quiet smile, have fun with them all. You never know your daughter may be pleased to have your Kenwood so easily sorted.

Panache Wed 15-Aug-18 10:40:32

`Morning kitchenette folk........from a murky grey, moist start the sun is thankfully popping into the scene, making gardening a possibility (for some!) and of course kinder for those attending our Agricultural Show

A little far for you to travel Greyd.......but it seems you are far from being alone in enjoying these days out, plenty to see and buy.... especially if your purse is overfull!!!........Loved your “Masterpiece” too.

As you mentioned along with you Nonna I think “our day will come” in this house selling malarkey, that one person finds our homes ideal for them. Not a nice business for sure though,my nerves are in shreds.

You just concern yourself about getting your bits packed and all sorted Ann........fear not we are strong in arm and body and will twist arms out there in Ibiza if needs be........am already packing essentials like plenty of undies!

Soop first time I have heard Greyd and the word respectable in the same sentence!!

Mmmmmmmm running thin on tiaras myself though.......any with any such refinements to give away?

Were you to say "Free to anyone who collects” Galen just like`s Nonna`s unwanted bricks it will soon have a taker, however I would think a card in some shop windows might do the trick......if your daughter`s declines your kind offer.I would have thought there would be quite a call as it is a really good piece of kitchen equipment.

I too am a FB virgin Corner it just does not do it for me!

That I think is all from a very lethargic me,another day when the limp lettuce has turned decidedly soggy!!!
Enjoy my cyber friends.

Baggs Wed 15-Aug-18 12:43:47

Minibaggs told one of her primary school teachers that I was a witch. They were decorating plant pots for Mothers' Day and Minibaggs's was witchy. She has a good sense of humour and is a total Hogwartian. I haven't got a black cat but I have got a brromstick.

Anyway, today my witchiness was confirmed when I was driving home. Before a bend in the road—a road that I know very well—a thought popped into my head about overhanging branches falling off trees and how one might have to do an emergency stop. Then I drove round the bend and there was a fallen branch right in front of me!

It was not large enough to have needed an emergency stop, and I think a heavy vehicle (or several) had already driven over it.

But still.....!!! ?

MawBroon Wed 15-Aug-18 12:56:14

Spooky Bags!
(How are you on Lottery numbers by the way?)

Baggs Wed 15-Aug-18 13:14:21

Dunno. I've never bought a lottery ticket.

Interestingly, my mum had a similar experience when we were about to move house. She said she just had to check that all our tetanus vaccinations were up to date (5 kids aged from ten to two).

During the first week in our new abode the five year old among us got a rusty nail from a disused and very dirty pig sty stuck in his knee while playing in an old barn next to the house (it had been a farmhouse). The pigs' feeding trough had rank water (and gawd knows what else) in it.

Greyduster Wed 15-Aug-18 13:42:59

Hello, kitcheners! That sounds more like the whisper of a guardian angel than witchery thoughts, Baggs! Glad the branch wasn’t big enough to cause you any difficulties.
The only thing we ever encountered in the middle of a road that we thought might cause us a problem was the biggest turkey I have ever laid eyes on. We were driving a mini and the bird was nearly as big, I swear. We were on a country lane that ran through a farm and this bird held its ground there bidding all comers to take it on. We sat. I said to DH “just drive towards it, it’ll move.” We did. It didn’t. I said “get out and shoo it away.” He said “you get out and shoo it away!” We sat. Then he sounded the horn, and eventually a man appeared and shouted at the turkey in French (we were in Belgium). It strutted off imperiously with him behind it, still shouting, and we followed slowly until we were sure it had gone, then quickly in case it came back! We were supposed to take the same route going home, but we got the map out instead!
I have been making jam this morning with the plums off our tree. It is a lovely colour, perhaps a tad oversweet, and I am not entirely convinced it is going to come out of the jars now I have got it in. Time will tell! I will send some to the kitchen, with some crusty bread! And maybe a chisel! Do not get your hopes up too soon!
I will look in later. We have to go shopping. His Little Highness is coming tomorrow and all must be in place on the comestible front!
