Morning... oops afternoon all! Thanks for your wedding anniversary wishes. We did have a lovely day, riding up in the cable car to visit the gardens. Even although it’s not the best season for flowers, there are still plenty around to admire.
To be fair n&g my old boy has organisational skills, but only in the things he sees as important... leaving quite a few areas where my direction is needed! A typical conversation goes like this “but why does it always have to be done your way?” “Well because I’m often right, that’s why”...grin....sometimes, just sometimes he will concede..grin I’ve been known to say “...now this marriage has lasted xx no of years it would be a shame if it fell apart over xyz..” This afternoon he's off for a Levada Walk. I’d intended to do it too, I enjoyed it 20+ years ago and I remember it as a very enjoyable and manageable walk. But the hotel rep insists it’s very demanding and walking boots are essential for survival, I wore walking sandals last time and planned to do the same again! I suspect I’ll hear later from the old boy that I would have have been fine and be annoyed... hey ho! But on the plus side I get an afternoon to myself, which if I’m absolutely honest I sometimes miss on a holiday!
Good luck with birthday baking stage 2, gd, are you absolutely sure the crumbs of the prototype aren’t suitable for leaving in the corner of the kitchen for us to nibble?
Hope your family bits aren’t too stressful to sort out cg, I’ll leave an agapanthus picture just for you!
Sending good wishes to all poorly folk, especially soop and of course panache
Enjoy your day, whatever it entails xx

cornergran Thu 13-Sept-18 10:37:43

Oh Charley I’m surrounded by Virgoans - if that’s a word. Perfection indeed ?

We’re minding Littlest today, rather he’s enjoying playing with Mr C, it seems I’m out of favour today.

Good luck with the cake greyd, annoying isn’t it when something special just won’t go right.

Hope the shoulder is more comfortable maw and soop is on the mend also panache and any other poorly people.

We’ve got some aggro to sort out tomorrow so unlikely to get in. It seems I’m now required, it appears to be story time, my job. Best do what I’m told. smile

Take care everyone.

Greyduster Thu 13-Sept-18 10:00:11

Ha!!! ?. Charley I wish!

Charleygirl Thu 13-Sept-18 09:55:14

Ah, Greyd nice to see your DH is another Virgo like myself. You must be used to living with somebody who is also perfect- we are so lucky, no faults.

Greyduster Thu 13-Sept-18 07:19:56

Hello the kitchen! I have been up for ages and am watching a bit of a ‘red sky in the morning, shepherds warning’ going on through the front window.
Soop I hope you are feeling better and doing as you are told by MacS, and its good that the doctor saw you. It was good also to hear that Panache is still fighting her illness and my fingers are crossed for her.
Maw I hope your tendinitis is improving, and that it is not your dominant arm.
N&G I don’t know what a fishwitch is either, but anything edible with fish it it goes down a treat with me!
Hope Mr Lester is out of the dog house Kitty!!
To everyone else I have not had time to catch up with, and all I haven’t met, greetings!
I actually caught some fish yesterday, but didn’t enjoy my day out as much as I usually do. After four and a half hours mostly on my feet I was bone tired and my hip, and my casting arm, ached like the devil. I remarked to a friend that I was glad DH had offered to drive me or I would probably have fallen asleep at a traffic light somewhere and caused all kinds of rush hour problems! Perhaps it’s time to hang up my rods. I never keep the fish I catch anyway, so I can’t even claim hunter gatherer status!
Our new neighbours brought their new baby round to see us yesterday. I knew he was expected but didn’t realise that he had arrived on Sunday. He’s lovely, and I hope we will have the pleasure of seeing him grow, as we have with the two little boys who live across the road, the older of whom was premature and tiny, and I remember his mum being so worried about him. He is now a strapping six year old.
It is DH’s birthday tommorrow. I made him what turned out to be a very complicated, time consuming and ultimately, unsuccessful cake, which won’t do, so I will have to knock up another today, as GS is expecting to decorate it with me!
I am getting a much needed haircut today, then it is school run - though not so much a run these days as we just sit in his house and wait for him to come home! I will look in later.

Overthehills Wed 12-Sept-18 21:46:52

Thankyou all for the welcome - and the biscuits! I’ll make you some “flappyjack” when I get back home. Yes I’m on holiday and the weather has been “changeable” - lucky we don’t come here for sunshine, though tbh I had more than enough of that this year on the east coast of Scotland where I live. Not that I begrudge it to those of you who enjoyed it.
I don’t know you well Soop but I agree with the others - please get back to bed and get better soon.

Synonymous Wed 12-Sept-18 18:31:06

Well I did help a bit Charleygirl ,just to clear the heaps he had moved from the parking area at the front of the house and heaped halfway round blocking the way to the veggie beds where the salad stuff is waiting to get washed for tea! Himself was most unappreciative and said it will now take him twice as long as it would if I had stayed inside. Can't work that one out but he is singing "you are my heart's delight" as he is taking a cup of tea outside with him so I can't help smiling anyway. Tis all a lot of nonsense really! smile

N&G I thought everyone knew that a fishwich is a fish sandwich, at least it is in our house and usually tuna and mayo etc. confused A bit odd if it was supposed to be a hot lunch though unless it was toasted as we sometimes do.

callgirl1 Wed 12-Sept-18 18:19:08

Congratulations GrannyQ, the BIG one next year!
N&G, please let us know, when you find out, just what Cooper had for lunch.
Soop, get in that bed and stay there, you`re like a naughty little girl, lol! Good job MacSporran is a patient man. Get well soon xx

NanaandGrampy Wed 12-Sept-18 17:33:26

Congrats Grannie what an achievement !!

I think in every relationship there has to be one organised person and often I think its the lady! So congrats to MrG on having someone like you to get him in shape :-)

Made me laugh Chaos - happy landings !!

Get back in bed soop you don't want to get on MacS wrong side :-) Hope the antibiotics make you feel better very quickly.

Welcome back Eilyann how were the Greek Islands and many congrats on your Golden Wedding anniversary !!

Great minds think alike eh Corner ? :-) He did a good job and was rewarded with a nice lunch then Sam made him take him for a walk LOL No peace for the wicked . Mind you he came back ( Grampy not Sam) with a pocketful of Norfolk Royal apples given by an elderly lady harvesting her tree.

Are you on holiday Overthehills? Its a lovely time of year for that I think.

oh Kitty !!! now that IS infuriating ! Hope MrK is out of the doghouse soon.

Young Cooper did his first full day at big school today and stayed for a hot lunch. Apparently he had a 'fishwich' . When I asked him about it he was convinced it was a 'fishwitch' . The mind boggles !!!

ChaosIncorporated Wed 12-Sept-18 17:23:42

Still no pesky internet! BT are sending a new hub "in 2 to 3 days".
Just a quick hello as I am currently using DDs wifi, in the rear section of a rocket heading for "spaceland". The co-pilot is in the lavatory and the captain has headed to the kitchen for supplies.
I may be some time......

soop Wed 12-Sept-18 16:42:14

farview Synomynous Welcome. Thank you for the biscuits. Greatly appreciated.

Yes, I know...I should be in bed...but...^you lot^ are missed.

The funeral was befitting of our dear friend and all the good that he has done for the village. The sun shone. The kirk was packed to the rafters. I was there in spirit.

MacS took a pee sample to the surgery this morning. Awful pain in the "front passage." Doctor attended the funeral and was kind enough to call by with antibio's for a UTI. He listened to my chest. There is an infection there too. Took blood pressure...on the low side. Accounts for my legs going wibbly wobbly when I move around.

Anyway, lovely photos as per usual. I miss you sooooooooooooo much.

Oh heck! MacSporran is standing in the doorway wearing a frown. hmm back to bed and the paperback, 'The Seagull' by Ann Cleeves.

Take good care of yourselves and each other. smile moon

Charleygirl Wed 12-Sept-18 15:51:22

Synonymous if that is his attitude sit down indoors with a cup of coffee knowing that you are not half killing yourself doing a job that will not be appreciated.

Charleygirl Wed 12-Sept-18 15:40:37

Welcome overthehills. Those who know me know that I ma Scottish- I have just bought a new diary for next year, £6.99 +£2 to park! WH Smith was so dark I did ask if they were up to date with electricity bill payments. I almost need a torch to have a look at what is displayed on the shelves.

I saw on the news this morning of a fire raging about 6 miles from where I live- it is a church and the house next door was the first house my ex and I bought after we were married. There were 10 fire engines and 70 firefighters so no small blaze. I do hope that "my" house was okay.

ann I do hope that you are relaxing with a cocktail in your hand- enjoy the weather, food and the fact that you have zilch to think about except what to have for your next meal.

soop behave yourself, you should know by now that McSporran is always right.

Sorry, I have never baked a cake or biscuit in my life so I cannot contribute to the kitchen. If I baked I would end up eating it.

Eilyann70 Wed 12-Sept-18 15:07:33

What a lovely place this is! I have been away for a couple of weeks ( Greek Island, Golden weddingsigh!} But I wanted to know how Panache is? And also hope soop is on the mend?

cornergran Wed 12-Sept-18 14:26:57

Definitely a leg of lamb trigger kitty, think I’d have suggested the person who turned off the timer, in your case Alexa, was responsible for the ironing. but then I’m mean grin.

Definitely back to bed soop, it’s important to to be properly better.

Congratulations to you both grannyq, definitely something to celebrate.

I had just ‘suggested’ what Mr C might do this afternoon when I read your post n&g. He’s still wondering why I’m laughing. grin.

Hello overthehills and farview, please do share the lovely cookies from synonymous, just let me get mine first.

Right, off to do my tasks. Take care everyone.

farview Wed 12-Sept-18 14:03:56

..don't usually venture into the kitchen..but just heard Panache is very poorly.. awesome lady and praying that she gets well??
..hoping all of you who are under the weather recover quickly x

Synonymous Wed 12-Sept-18 12:54:35

Tiptoes in so as not to wake soop and leaves a plate of lemon and nut cookies on the table. Hope all who are poorly will be feeling better soon. flowers Such nice photos in here, makes me have itchy feet.

anne so glad to know you are away on holiday and hope you get to grips with those cocktails very soon! smile

Oh dear kitty sad "the best laid plans of mice and men gang aft agley" hmm

We have had a trailer load of logs delivered this morning so DH is trying to get it all into the woodshed before the rain comes again. I wanted to help but was told he likes it to be well stacked and not likely to tumble out - so that told me then! Just keep the tea coming he says! I so hope he doesn't overdo it as he hasn't long been back on his feet but he says he won't know if he doesn't try so we will see what happens.

soop Wed 12-Sept-18 12:54:21

MacSporran has gone to our friend's funeral. It's a bright, sunny day. I feel sad not to be attending the final farewell.

Shouldn't be out of bed! MacS says so. I was anxious to say hello to you lovely lot and welcome Overthehills and others to the kitchen. I cannot read through all your messages. But, I'm missing you. 'Nough said! Back to bedhmm

Overthehills Wed 12-Sept-18 12:34:10

Thankyou for the welcome NanaandGrampy - what a lovely friendly place the kitchen is! Hope you are feeling a bit better today - those who were not yesterday - and enjoy your holiday - those who are enjoying a well earned rest! I’m on the west coast of Scotland at the moment - not quite as warm as Madeira but very restful.

kittylester Wed 12-Sept-18 12:08:35

I think I need the leg of lamb!!

I am doing DD3's washing as she is 36 weeks pregnant and currently has no kitchen - brilliant planning!! So, I put a load in the tumble drier to reduce the amount of ironing and ask Alexa to set an alarm for 1 hour on the basis that I can get stuff out while it's warm, shake it and send it back. DH wanders into the kitchen, hears Alexa making a 'strange noise' and tells 'her' to switch off. By the time I remember (having set the alarm to remind me!) the drier has switched off and everything is in a crumpled heap. angryangry

Greyduster Wed 12-Sept-18 10:53:05

Just looked in before I shoot off to do battle with the denizens of the deep! Congratulations Gq and Mr Gq on your anniversary! Have a lovely day! Right - I will look in later (probably after calling at the fishmongers on the way home if the day pans out as it usually does!!).

kittylester Wed 12-Sept-18 10:37:05

Thank you for the update on Panache, soop. I too hope we gave better news soon.

I hope you are feeling a little better today too. Your friend will understand you missing the funeral soop so take it easy.

Congratulations gq. I bet it's all down to you that it has lasted so long.

maw I have had the dreaded shoulder pain and it is more debilitating than it has any right to be. I hope you can get some relief from the gp.

Lots of lovely photos from everyone.

Off to do some spot cleaning of the lounge carpet and then to Derby for the school run.

annodomini Wed 12-Sept-18 10:21:50

GQ - a lovely bird of paradise. It's a very long time since I had a holiday in Madeira but I do remember the lovely flowers. All the little A-frame houses had pots of orchids and there were agapanthus growing all along the roadsides. I wouldn't mind a return visit there.
Come to think of it, it really was a long time ago - DS1 had his 12th birthday there and he's now nearly 48.

grannyqueenie Wed 12-Sept-18 09:48:49

A beautiful cool looking forest, n&g I love it that you have grampy organised for the day... truly a woman after my own heart. We are 49 years married today, either because or in spite of my organisational skills... not sure which it is! Have a good day, kitchen folk. x

NanaandGrampy Wed 12-Sept-18 09:33:42

Morning all ,

Glad to see the update from MrP . Hope *panache improves quickly .

Sorry to hear you are feeling so poorly soop , get well soon !! And you too Maw that sounds very painful - how did you do it? Or is it something that just starts?

Hello overthehill , why not stay a while - we have plenty of room !! :-)

Love the pictures Grannie , keep em' coming.

Not much to report here , I shall whisper though ( I bought my first Christmas Presents yesterday!!) To be fair they were at a price too good to miss.

Grampy and I are are back on friendly terms now we have outlined the 'rules' . He has garage tidying to complete today and I have some crafting to do. I want to make reusable shopping bags with appropriate phrases for my sisters and SiL or our upcoming holiday .

My photo offering today was taken in the forest at Oxburgh Hall last week.
