‘ Didn’t even know I was pregnant’?

A friend who knew she was pregnant hardly showed at all deslite her being slim.
She got up one morning when she was 7mths pregnant and baby had obviously moved in the knight as she suddenly had a large bump !

My SiL took her 16 year old DGS out for a birthday treat.
When she took him home there was an ambulance outside his home and his dad was sitting on the stairs holding a baby!
We couldn’t believe it either?

I'm a midwife so I've seen a lot of babies being born. I remember one time, a young nurse from the general part of the hospital came over to us from the A+E where she'd gone with stomach pains. It turned out that she was in labour , and she swore she'd had no idea she was pregnant. She was in her nurses' uniform and she really didn't look pregnant at all. She had a little boy that day - what a shock !

My friends neighbour had some stomach pain late one night and went to the hospital. Shortly afterwards to her and everyone’s surprise she gave birth to a baby.
I found it hard to believe but my friend was convinced her neighbour was not spinning a yarn, she really had no idea she was pregnant with baby no. 3.

Marydoll no scans with my first,the gynea/obs doctor I saw refused to believe I was pregnant ,the tests said negative and I was still bleeding.So I believed her ...she was the doctor and I was just 22 with little experience .It was only after the sickness refused to go she tested me again and I was without doubt pregnant .I only carried her for a few more weeks before I lost her too.No home tests in those days either.

I worked with someone who says that she didn't know she was pregnant. This was many years ago, she was a slim and fit woman, definitely not stupid (a University librarian) and said that she had no idea until she got terrible pains.

I find it hard to understand how anyone can go full term and not know, but then we are all different. I was huge with both of mine, like the dome of St Paul's, but a friend, similar age, height and weight (both skinny then!) hardly showed at all, even with full term 7 lb babies.

paddyann the same thing happened to me. I had a miscarriage went to hospital in an ambulance, as I was bleeding so heavily and needed a D&C.
However, there were no beds available in the woman's hospital and I was taken to the local maternity hospital instead. The doctor there decided to do a scan first, then told me there was another baby there. It was a very difficult pregnancy, with lots of scares and I nearly lost my baby, but my DD is now thirty four four. I often wonder what her sibling would have been like. ?

Annie I delivered my son at 27 weeks an 4 days he hardly moved at all ,it was more like wind in my tummy than a baby.My doctor always said that boys are lazy so not to worry about movement or lack of .He was just over 2 pounds when he was born.and he was my last pregnancy of 9 with only one other surviving baby.So you'd think I would have known about movements !

A friend who had been trying for a child for a decade and had been told by the doctor that she was unlikely to ever have a child, went to the doctor because she was feeling queasy and tired and was suffering with bloating, only to discover she was 6 months pregnant.

Not quite the same because I did know I was pregnant with my first baby but no one else did I barely put any weight on and you couldn’t even tell I had a bump In fact I was at a party a couple of nights before and even the bloke I was dancing with didn’t know, I was really skinny too She was a small baby but full term and perfect and ended up 5’9
My bump got bigger with successive babies though

I remember reading that in some cases the position of the uterus means that the baby gets sort of wedged so it doesn't have much room for movement. For the first three months of my first pregnancy the only symptoms I had were regular period pains, but no bleeding. I was quite surprised when the pregnancy was confirmed.

A 46 yr old grandmother who lived in my street went to the GP with back pain. She thought She was going through the menopause, and was stunned when the doctor told her to she was in labour!

I know someone of similar age that this happened to, only in her case she was rushed into hospital with 'appendicitis'! Her appendicitis turned out to be a large, healthy baby boy!

A 46 yr old grandmother who lived in my street went to the GP with back pain. She thought She was going through the menopause, and was stunned when the doctor told her to she was in labour! She was the mother of eight children. Her DiL had a young baby so she was able to borrow baby clothes. She was a little over weight, but thought the weight gain was down to the menopause.

I can understand it - I worked in a maternity hospital.The mums who got to term without realising what was happening were generally of a stout build and had put the movements down to wind!

Of course we also had young schoolgirls who claimed not to know they were pregnant - some out of fear of telling anyone (this was the early sixties), some because they really were too young to know what was going on (13/14) and some with learning difficulties.

ohhhhh, the foot under one’ rib, ouch

It’s the movement bit I couldn’t understand. I used to hear talk of babies ‘ kicking’, but I used to watch my whole middle rising up, turning round, and recognisable arms and legs poking out! They were all big babies too.

Be strange to have a full term pregnancy and not feel Movement

all pregnancies are different ,I had an early miscarriage at around 9 weeks ,many years ago.I was told to wait before trying again.After three more months WITH periods I discovered I was still pregnant with the first baby's twin.I had no idea other than I still felt and was sick a lot.Hadn't put on weight ,in fact had dropped a size.My subsequent pregnancies were never very active so I can see how she didn't know .
