annsixty Sun 11-Nov-18 20:03:55

I think it is called wine-away .

Overthehills Sun 11-Nov-18 20:31:05

Wish I’d come in here first instead of panicking and ringing the insurance company. We use the pink stuff in all its forms so why did I panic? Don’t know if we can cancel the assessor but will definitely try!
Thank you all.

callgirl1 Sun 11-Nov-18 23:37:43

I`ve just watched They Shall Not Grow Old. I have no words.

Galen Sun 11-Nov-18 23:52:03

Quite!

MawBroon Mon 12-Nov-18 08:29:43

I think my friends had got very fed up of me raving about this film which I saw a fortnight ago at a little cinema not far from me.
It made a huge impression, not least because of the style of the film and the soldiers’ own words.
I am so glad others have had the opportunity to see it now.

Bellanonna Mon 12-Nov-18 08:31:18

I watched it too. A wonderful film

NanaandGrampy Mon 12-Nov-18 09:30:17

Morning all !!

Nice bright start to the day here .

Ha! Bellanonna my exact thoughts about JC- it wasn't like it was raining and every other man there was in an overcoat or similar- JC looked a bit of a twit in his anorak I felt-- but of course that's just my opinion !! I thought the whole parade moving and very fitting.

Tabitha looks lovely Soop - I think she might have found a nice new home !

Oh crikey Overthehills red wine stains !! Hope the assessor has a solution . I didn't know you had to pay for assessors to come out ?

We are commencing operation move all my sh*t to the West Wing. I think it will take days :-( and I'm bored with it already!!

I have to go and buy a couple of local newspapers as Jackson NEEDS a Pokémon ball shaped Piñata for his up and coming party and I refuse to pay a fortune for something he's going to bash to pieces- so I'm making one out of paper Mache !! Watch this space...it could go either way!!

Elegran Mon 12-Nov-18 10:17:47

Maybe JC thought he was doing a Michael Foot.

Panache Mon 12-Nov-18 10:23:06

After this last weekend I am finding it rather difficult to come back down to earth, as I am sure all of you are.
Those programmes certainly touched many of our hearts.

Resting to recoup after sadly another couple of overnighters in Hospital.
Very upsetting and such a pain.I am now back again on the simple diet of “Ensure”... meals in a pot, little choice sadly..............grrrrrr
Not much hopes for our Christmas or Golden .W.A. celebrations, but it relieves my man of preparing two meals at a time......and we are both still here.

Enjoying reading your accounts of daily life, as always accompanied by some delectable pictures.
Thank you all for your kindness and caring, hoping to rejoin you in full again.

BTW....Belated Happy birthday Synonymous

annsixty Mon 12-Nov-18 11:17:30

So very sad ? Panache that your health issues are not improving.
I am sure we all feel for you and your DH
I have not been too good myself but at least I can carry on.
Keep on keeping on everyone.

NanaandGrampy Mon 12-Nov-18 11:47:10

I don't know Elegran is it a Labour thing?? Or just rubbish dress sense :-)

Sorry to hear your diet is so restricted Panache - maybe there is a niche market for a news Grans company making Christmas Dinner flavoured Ensure? ;-) We can throw a virtual Golden Wedding Celebration for you here in the kitchen where you can partake of all your favourites virtually without making you feel poorly !! Grey - you're in charge of the cake !! Ann you can be our mixologist after your recent holiday !!

I do love a good party!

Charleygirl5 Mon 12-Nov-18 11:52:50

Oh dear Panache sorry to hear that you have had a couple of bouts in hospital when you thought you had said goodbye to the place and could relax in your own home.

The sun is out here but it is not the warmest of days. I am waiting for the TV engineer to come- I missed a lot of TV yesterday because of "no signal". This is his second (and last) time here today because he makes it worse. He will be less than happy with my comments today- tough.

My new loo seat has arrived (I know how to live) so that will have to be fitted. I need one for upstairs also but I will see how this one works first. I am in a cleaning mood today so I must not lose that opportunity as it will be fleeting.

MawBroon Mon 12-Nov-18 12:29:11

A new loo ?
White leather like Prince Charles? Velvet? Surely satin at least!

Doodle Mon 12-Nov-18 12:39:55

What about one with a picture on.. or even the latest idea ..under rim lighting ? So you can see where you pee in the dark ?
soop I love the name Tabitha for a cat. Pretty girl. I hope she comes by often.
panache life cannot be much fun for you at the moment. I hope your situation improves. Take care x

soop Mon 12-Nov-18 13:40:10

Hello my lovely Granspals. We're expecting the computer savvy friend to visit in a wee while. He has a lot of stuff to do before I shall feel comfortable using the PC.

Panache I echo all the supportive messages sent to you from the kitchen. It's so unfair. You are a real trooper and deserve to be on the mend, as opposed to being admitted for yet more medical treatment. flowers

A belated happy birthday to dear Synonymous

There are so many truly inspirational postings. I have loved reading them.

granniequeenie That owl and those leaves are stunning. I can imagine the leaf photo being enlarged and printed on canvas. It would look marvellous as a wall hanging.

Elegran JC in my honest opinion is a total berk. Just sayin' hmm

Overthehills I picked up what I thought was an empty bottle of red (only it wasn't) and, on tipping it, I made the most unholy mess of off-white sofa fabric. The stain was that bad I turned the cushions and, as far as I know, the stains remain as good as new.wink What was worse...the sofa was only a few weeks old at the time of the damage done. I tried something called Stain Away (or the likes) and it made very little difference to the overall mess.

Maw Ann morethan and callgirl1 special hugs to help you feel well loved.

N&G Jackson is one very lucky grandson. I says so.

Charleygirl5 I need a new loo seat. MacS disagrees. I shall, in due course, get my wish.

Doodle My eldest son (57) loves quirky accessories of any kind. Across from the bedroom is a wee loo. As he felt like enhancing his early morning forays across a dark landing...guess what? As he approaches the loo, the seat "glows" and changes colours. Haven't seen it for myself. Apparently it puts a huge grin on his face. shock

Here is the latest sunset image for you.

Willow500 Mon 12-Nov-18 15:12:48

I have the light up loo thingies. They sit on the rim and come on as soon as there's movement. My husband wasn't at all impressed when it showed the contents up as bright red turning to green then a lurid pink or blue but you can turn them to just one colour or white. He did change his mind in the bungalow as there is no window in the bathroom so getting up in the middle of the night could prove either noisy putting the light/fan on or messy not doing it grin

Panache I'm sorry you've been so poorly again and had to resort to such a boring diet - do they come in different flavours? I seem to remember seeing blackcurrant ones at my FIL's some years ago. It's no fun not being able to eat properly so I hope you are able to progress off them again soon sad

I must have spent 2 hours on the phone to BT today trying to find out what the issue is with our broadband. We have only recently added this to our old phone line as the work line was disconnected which had been using the super fast bb. Although I knew the speed wouldn't be as good we have had a lot of problems just lately with it dropping out and being incredibly slow. It seems that there is insufficient capacity in the junction box at the top of the street for super fast now. To give BT their due though they were extremely helpful and the man I was talking to was actually only in the next village to me and he has tweaked some things to increase the speed and also reported a fault he found. I'm hoping we find it much better so that Mr W won't be tempted to launch his iPad over the room when it won't connect tonight! I hope your friend gets your IT issues corrected today Soop.

Overthehills Mon 12-Nov-18 16:00:58

DD and DGD (who had to brought home from her father’s on Saturday ...) went to a beautiful sand commemoration (don’t know what else to call it sorry) yesterday but got there just as the tide took the last of it away. I thought that in itself was quite poignant.
Oh Panache I’m so sorry to hear that you have had to have another stay in hospital and that you’re on Ensure. Hoping things will start to look up soon. N&G’s party is a brilliant idea - I’ll bring mulled wine flavoured Ensure!
And Ann too, not feeling so well.
Lovely photo Soop. Over here on the east coast we are having lovely bright mornings and early afternoons. My opinion of JC pretty much echoes yours.
I tried the “pink stuff” on the red wine splashes on the sofa - to no avail, so maybe it was a particularly potent brand!
The tumble dryer man came today and said he’d never seen such a clean one!! Don’t know what he was expecting because all it gets is the tank emptying and the fluff taken out and kept for the the birds’ nests in Spring. Admittedly we try to use it as little as possible. Apparently the only thing left to try is a new circuit board which he’ll order and which will come ....
Have a good evening everybody - keep warm!

soop Mon 12-Nov-18 16:43:33

The computer man has been called away to another job. He will visit tomorrow afternoon.

Willow, the entire village has been upgraded and enjoys super fast broadband. We, being three miles outside, cannot benefit. We had so much hassle to start with. Umpteen very helpful engineers called to check out connections and such. The area behind the sofa was never so dust free.
The outcome was that we were taken off the new upgrade. No worries ( as they say), providing we have a connection we don't mind it being slow-ish.

soop Mon 12-Nov-18 16:48:03

Time to prepare Tabitha 's supper. Signing off on Kindle. Will be happy to have normal service restored.

Care home visit in the morning. I shall be in the kitchen after lunch.

Love to you all. X

Elegran, you beat me to it, I well remember the furore over Michael Foot`s choice of attire for the Remembrance service.
Oh Panache, so sorry that you`ve had yet more hospital time, hoping that this time you get to stay home.
MawB, I know the film was telling a tragic story, but couldn`t help smiling when the credits rolled, and it said "filmed on location on the western front"!
Soop, sorry your computer man didn`t make it, I hope he sorts you out tomorrow. Why don`t you ask your son for a light up loo for Christmas? I`m sure MacS would grow to love it over time! Lovely photo. What is Tabitha getting for Christmas?

So sorry, I pressed on my touch pad by accident!

kittylester Mon 12-Nov-18 17:21:40

Hi kitcheners from a windy Suffolk coast.

I'm sorry you have had another hospital stay, Panache and I'm also

sorry that you are stuck with ensure! Do take care of yourself. flowers Ann I hope you are feeling a little more 'in sorts' now!

Our super fast broadband is from a box approx 50 metres away at the top of the road. It occasionally crashes and, if we look outside, there is often a man working away in the box. They usually manage to reconnect us!

We haven't see the film yet but did record it. I'm really looking forward to it.

I'm now off the investigate illuminated loo seats.

MawBroon Mon 12-Nov-18 17:45:28

“Movement” or “a movement” ?
My mnd is well and truly boggling.
