Nothing but the best for Hattie!

Maw* Isn't she a darling girl. Perfectly beautiful.

Phew that wasn’t too bad. Here the gist of what I understood. They still think that the seizure was as a result of the radiation making the brain swell, but as he said it was truly terrifying for us all. They can’t be absolutely sure that the cancer in her brain has responded to the treatment. They can’t get a proper idea until they give the radiotherapy chance to do its stuff and the swelling goes down. So another scan early January when they can read the results. Any residual cancer in the head can be treated at the marston apparently they have a new radiotherapy that is capable of targeting small cancers in the brain,. This .can only be offered if the other secondaries in her liver and bone are contained. They are at the moment so fingers crossed. Oh and she can continue cutting down on the dreaded steroids. I don’t think chemo is starting but perhaps we didn’t get the full gist of what he was saying, she’ll phone her McMillan nurse next week to double check. We were chatting in the waiting room and she indicated that she knew that some of the things she’s planned for the garden she might not see. I always find those comments hard to swallow but for now I’ll concentrate on the what little good news we have. Thank you all for your prayers and positive vibes I like to think they help, they certainly help me. So I’m going to sit back and enjoy my few days with 8 year old grandson, who is the most lovable little poppet. Hope those of you with troubles are comforted in this cosy kitchen. Ps today I found a big tube of orange flavoured smarties in Poundland my absolute favourite.

annsixty Wed 24-Oct-18 17:22:15

I hope your understanding is correct morethan as while things will never be cured, it sounds slightly more positive if she can be treated at the Marsden.
You are all living through a dreadful time and any little glimmer is to be welcomed.

annsixty Wed 24-Oct-18 17:26:08

That certainly isn't petty soop it sounds awfully uncomfortable and dismaying.
Not many of us would cope as well as you do.
I hope you get some good news when you see the consultant.

soop Wed 24-Oct-18 17:52:41

Thank you for updating us, morethan. May time spent with your loveable little poppet be a spirit raiser. Eight years of age...enjoy his company to the full. smile

Thank you for your kind words, ann. We've had the flu jab and I took a wee specimen along with me. Yet another UTI and yet more antibiotics. Never mind, the appointment with the consultant is only a matter of a week and bit away. Thank you, NHS. What would we do without you.

Time for a fond farewell but I shall make a point of visiting you all again tomorrow. (((hugs))) a plenty for each and every one of you. smile moon

Greyduster Wed 24-Oct-18 19:13:22

my problem must seem like a petty irritation. Dear me, Soop, I don’t think there is a single one among us who would think that! It must make you feel dreadful. I hope you are more comfortable soon, and that the consultant can do something to help you ?.
Morethan so good to know you have some positive news. A step forward at a time. Enjoy your time with your GS!

We had a walk around Chatsworth Park today, along the river, up to the Hunting Tower (great view from there!) and then round the lake. We have failed, until today, to find the lake, which supplies water to the cascade and the spectacular fountain in the grounds and, now, to the visitor toilets! We sat and ate sandwiches, fresh strawberries and jam doughnuts in the sun. On the way through the park we saw a large herd of red deer, with a couple of hefty twelve point stags squaring up to each other and roaring their challenges. It is that time of year. We couldn’t get close enough to take good photos with a phone camera. It has only reinforced my view that I need a new camera!
Feet up for me now; my hip is complaining bitterly! Serves me right!

Fennel Wed 24-Oct-18 19:48:18

morethan - I've been wondering how things were going for your daughter.
Still praying every day.
soop - I sympathise with your prolapse. Mine is at the front, I might have an operation soon but I want to avoid it if possible.

Willow500 Wed 24-Oct-18 20:31:25

Evening all – I am still being very slack about making these cheese scones – tomorrow!

Here is a beautiful picture Soop has done of Daphne – captured to perfection – one amazingly talented lady. She will be going in pride of place on the wall in the bungalow this weekend (Daph that is not Soop). Given the awful problem you have down below Soop has I don’t know how you manage to do anything and standing ironing will most definitely not help – are you able to sit to do it? My mum’s prolapse was also worse if she stood for too long and had to sit with her feet up until it went back. Different place like Fennel but it might help to do the same.

I have taken delivery today of a huge litter tray – it’s a new type with a hole in the lid which they’re supposed to get in – I know Daph is going to take one look at it and think if she thinks I’m getting in there she’s sadly mistaken! I’m hoping Alfie will use it though as he’s quite handy at peeing through holes – I will report back – if nothing else I can use it as a bucket!

GD I hope your son enjoyed his pie eventually – getting stuck in traffic is the very devil when you need to be somewhere – especially for mum’s meat and potato pie. Love the pictures of Chatsworth – one of my favourite places to visit especially at Christmas – we try to go every year. My granddaughter brought her dad’s camera with her for their trip to Windermere and took some beautiful shots. She’s just finished her media course at Uni and takes wonderful photos – even with her phone camera but the digital one is obviously fantastic so if you can get one definitely go for it.

Callgirl falling out of bed is no joke especially if you can’t get up again – could you have the care alarm installed on a pendant or a button on the skirting board (my parents had one in the bathroom). I hope your aches and pains have improved a bit today but I bet the bruises will be worse before they’re better!

Lovely pictures of little Wolfie Kitty – new uncles always look anxious with new babies – in fact so do new dads grin Maw good news about the 20 week scan and also that the steroid injection didn’t hurt too much. Hattie looks so comfy on that sofa – is it her very own?! And mcem congratulations on your secret news – hope your DiL’s sickness soon passes – if I’d had it with my first one I’d never have had another!!

Morethan it’s definitely no surprise that your little granddaughter is showing signs of stress – we sometimes think they don’t take things in but they know more than we think. The news today seems a bit more hopeful – if there is a new radiation treatment available and your DiL can benefit from it fingers crossed she is able to try it. Enjoy your time with the little boy – their innocent chatter and play is a good tonic. The C-Pap machine is for sleep apnoea – a necessary evil as he sees it to get proper sleep. When he was first tested all those years ago his body was waking him up dozens of times an hour as he stopped breathing so he wasn’t getting proper sleep and was tired all the time.

Flu injections done and a few other issues sorted out with the nurse – it’s a good thing we went in together as I made sure to ask about Mr W’s deaf ear – he’d never have asked himself! She had a look and kind of reeled back in shock – it’s completely blocked with wax – no wonder he can’t hear anything but worse than that the other one is too. There’s only a very narrow opening at the top which is how he’s hearing at that side. The ear syringing machine is out of order so they’re waiting for a replacement – wouldn’t you think they’d have a spare! I did offer to squirt it with a washing up liquid bottle but she didn’t seem very impressed with the idea so we have to wait but meanwhile he has to put olive oil in it. Seems the cooking sort is not suitable either so we have some from the chemist.

Hope everyone manages to have a comfortable night tonight.

Greyduster Wed 24-Oct-18 21:12:37

Willow my DH suffers terribly with ear wax and we have found that bicarbonate of soda ear drops are more effective at softening it than olive oil ever was. The only problem after that is getting an appointment to have the wax removed!!

Charleygirl5 Wed 24-Oct-18 21:29:17

soop the sooner you get that appointment with the consultant and something can be done, the better. I have no idea how you can live with it.

Maw would you like a dog sitter? Hattie looks so peaceful. The problem is if Tara and I moved in permanently Tara I doubt would take too kindly to Hattie and it is Hattie's house.

Overthehills Wed 24-Oct-18 22:05:11

Oh Soop that sounds anything but trivial! I hope you see the consultant and get something done very soon.
Such beautiful pictures of Chatsworth Grey - we had a lovely holiday in Derbyshire in September. Is it wall to wall sunshine everyday - it was when we were there and looks the same in your photos!
Better news than you feared Morethan - you’re such a support to your family - enjoy that little boy.
No it’s not funny at all Callgirl but you were very good humoured in the telling of your fall! Rest up for a day or two.
Keep keeping our spirits up Panache!
I do love that dog Maw - she can sleep on my sofa any day!
My DD got the good news that things have been sorted out in work so she can stop worrying about that issue. She hasn’t heard anything more about the threats made by her ex. DGD is due to go to him for the weekend ...
Sleep well all of you.

callgirl1 Wed 24-Oct-18 22:17:56

A bit more hopeful Morethan, thank goodness it wasn`t as bad as you thought it would be, if only there was a cure on the horizon. The whole family, especially your DIL herself and those wonderful children, are being so brave, I`m sure I wouldn`t be in that situation. Bless them all.
Soop, so sorry about your latest buggeration, which is definitely NOT a petty irritation. Please, please let them be able to do something for you, and soon.
I`ve survived the day, albeit with aching joints and a very tender shoulder. We do have a lifeline pendant, but Lynne takes it to bed with her. If I hadn`t managed to get up I`d have shouted down to her to press the button, but glad I didn`t have to, it would have been most undignified. My shoulder`s a lovely colour though.

callgirl1 Wed 24-Oct-18 22:19:49

Meant to say Willow, what a lovely portrait of Daphne, was she impressed?

Panache Thu 25-Oct-18 11:50:38

Good Afternoon my kitchen friends............ and I sincerely hope today is turning out to be kinder with less pain and issues for all those having problems of varying kinds.

Since there has been a wealth of hardship floating around in the Kitchen of late, I thought today perhaps I will join you GreyD in relating something fresh........sadly nothing as exciting and mouth watering as you brought us with sharing your visit to Chatsworth Park.......(even though it meant suffering for your pleasure!!!)
Such a beautiful setting and what a gorgous blue sky.
Whilst I could actually picture you there munching through your delectables!!!
You certainly know how to treat yourselves!!!

Because of the weather changing and night`s drawing in I have had to try rethink my plans for most days as I certainly do not have many choices!

However ever since the programmes “Escape to the Country” ever started, with the delightful presenter with a lovely accent,Catherine Gee, I have been “hooked”.... as design, decorating, refurbishing and home making is high on my list of enjoyments.
I love nosing through homes, enjoy those lovely quaint village settings,or travelling through such amazing green countryside or along those delightful coastal stretches that I most likely will never be able to enjoy in real life again......

So with that broadcast on afternoon weekdays, and sometimes the weekend, that has been firmly added to my viewing list,as is a very similar newer concept called “Coast v Country” on an opposing Channel, so those two full hours of lying back and letting the beauty soak over me!!!

It takes me up to excercising the grey cells!
My dear man and I love “The Chase” with the wit provided by cheeky Bradley Walsh and then, the 4 “clever” ones... although trying to portray a serious persona .......you can always detect a glimmer of a suppressed giggle amongst them!!!
Time to round off our viewing with a half hour local News and another half hour of The Main News............and that should serve me nicely and keep me up to date, with no space left for feeling down hearted either.

We have 3 T.V`s and yet apart from watching both Royal Weddings this year, neither have been used apart from my man watching some of his favourite snooker and Tour de France.

Hopefully that will fit the bill nicely in keeping me fairly well occupied.......until the channels decide to change again!

Please note I have allowed for plenty time to flit in and out of The kitchen, as of course I shall need sustenance and without you lot life would be extremely stagnant and dreary...........so keep up the good work dear friends.

Always with you in spirit!!

soop Thu 25-Oct-18 12:30:19

Tut! Our kitchen has been bustlingly with to-ing and fro-ing for hours on end. I may need to catch up a bit later.

We had a short walk but I was thankful not to have done the full circuit. Didn't feel up to it. It's dreich and blowy. Best off here at home.

Thank you for your very kind comments. I shall be pleased to see the consultant. The cystocele causes problems in the front passage and the rectocele is responsible for the most debilitating discomfort in the rear. I've had a major repair done privately before we came here 15 years ago. A second repair was done since then. Three hefty babies and a hysterectomy have been instrumental in the collapse of the pelvic floor. That's it, really. So many of you have the direst of health issues to deal with. From hereon, I shall update you but not bore you to distraction. That's a promise.

soop Thu 25-Oct-18 13:10:34

Okay! I have read through all your messages. So much going on it's hard to keep abreast. I'm not complaining. You lot are a breath of fresh air in an oft times sad and sorry world.

Greyduster yet more beautiful photographs. The visit ti Chatsworth Park must have been idyllic. The stags certainly know how to strut their stuff and bellow at this time of the year. It amuses me to see the females happily chewing on the grass. I imagine that some might think...oh no! It's that time of year again. wink

fennel Bless you. smile

Willow The story of the tray amused me. I can almost see Diva Daphne's look of disdain when she's presented with it.

Charleyg Tara and Hattie, living under one roof!hmm Interesting to say the least.

Overthehills It's a relief to hear that your daughter has had some good news. By George, she deserves it. I feel very sorry that she has to deal with "that man".

callgirl A very gentle (hug) for you. We both said hello to David. smile

Panache You deserve a huge bouquet of flowers. You have a wonderful way with words.

Greyduster Thu 25-Oct-18 13:12:02

We girls have a lot to put up with, do we not, Soop, in the process of perpetuating the species. Mine were a couple of hefty specimens that took some getting rid of too! If I had known then what I know now..... I’d still have had them ?!

I am hobbling a bit today after suffering an uncomfortable night. It’s not yesterdays’s actual walking that is the problem, it is periodic sitting down, to have lunch and to admire the views, then trying to get going again when you have, and the journey home in the car, after which you have to be poured out onto the drive and shovelled into the house because you can barely stand! Ridiculous!

It is half term next week, and GS and his parents are going to New York tommorrow, so we will not see him for a week, which is not a long time in the great scheme of things, except...... why do I keep thinking ‘it’s such a long way away’!
I really must shake myself out of this and focus on what a wonderful time they will have and what a terrific opportunity it is for him.

Panache we tend to watch those nice property programmes during the winter months, and early evening quiz and antiques programmes. Light viewing for dark evenings; just the thing! You sound nicely chipper today - I hope you are feeling thus!
I will look in later. I have some laundry to sort before we go out.

cornergran Thu 25-Oct-18 13:57:13

Oh dear, no chance of catching up, sorry everyone.

Shall we share a warm corner greyd? An hour chopping and mixing in the kitchen has left me struggling to stand still. I can walk, sort of sit but don’t ask me to stand in one place. Flipping back. A food shop later will be interesting at the checkout hmm. Oh well, and this too will pass, along with the tinnitus I hope, recent throat and cough thingy seems to have turned up the volume. Can’t tune it out now. Oh well, my moan over, promise.

Emotions and logic don’t always go hand in hand greyd, he’ll have a wonderful time and be back in no time to tell you all about it. I’m guessing you are noticing it more because of your not as full of beans as usual.

Sorry you also aren’t full of beans soop, can you rest later? Maybe those with lots of beans can share them around smile.

Good to hear you sounding positive panache, we also succumb to late afternoon tv as the nights draw in. A pleasant wind down.

Hugs for all those struggling, sending hope for positive outcomes where needed.

The supermarket calls. We have a granddaughter for the day tomorrow so need to stock up with essential supplies as requested by the small one.

NanaandGrampy Thu 25-Oct-18 14:11:04

Afternoon all !!

I am returned from all our visits and trips !! I'm going to cheat and start here at the end and work backwards ! Ive missed loads .

Sorry to hear you're poorly Corner! It all sounds like you're really run down ( or as my Gran used to say - run over!!). Get well soon .

ooooh I watch those sorts of things too grey and Panache with the addition of some nature documentaries and currently a series about dogs that a trainer comes in to sort out. I swear Sam sits next to me with a smug look on his face as if to say ' Look what a good boy I really am Mum !'.

Sorry to hear you're suffering too soop , sending you warmest wishes and a hug!

morethan the treatments sound positive , hats off to your brave DiL .

Time I went and downloaded all my pictures from this week, so will catch up some more later xx

Willow500 Thu 25-Oct-18 14:25:32

Hello all - I am determined - I've bought more cheese and will get those cheese scones done next. I just need to find the recipe from my old school book as I can't remember which flour it is - I've got both just in case! I will make extra to share.

Panache we also like The Chase which follows another favourite Tipping Point. I've found myself watching reruns of Quincy and Kojak the last few days as I've been getting dressed. I like the home renovation programs too like 60 Minute Makeover although some of the finished decorations wouldn't bear close scrutiny but they usually look better mainly down to the new furniture! During our recent bungalow renovations I bought a chandelier for my bedroom which I just knew my husband would absolutely hate. He did - he hated it even more trying to put it up but the general consensus of those who've seen it is 70-30 liking it smile

I'm hobbling a bit today too - it must be catching in this kitchen. My flu jab is very red and itchy so husband said put some E45 on it which is in his room. Rubbing it on my arm I stupidly walked into the doorframe and kicked it with my little toe! I did think later last night I'd actually broken it but it's a bit easier today although shoes and boots are not too comfy.

Soop Alfie got in the tray this morning but obviously had no idea what he was meant to do in it - I can only hope when it's in place he's going to learn quickly.

My son sent a little video of our 5 year old GS's first cross country - he came in 20th but Dad said he distracted him and I can see him turning round and waving. He does seem to have settled down to his new school which is a relief.

The oven is calling - I'll be back!

Nannytopsy Thu 25-Oct-18 15:04:07

I am convinced that women and their back and hip problems are due to keeping the species going! I have trouble standing too Corner but have been told of a way to stand that is better. I just need to try it out!
Another beautiful day here and I shall be going to the garden centre for my free glass of fizz. No! Going C shopping honestly!

kittylester Thu 25-Oct-18 16:55:39

I've missed the free fizz at the garden centre Nannytopsy and I drove past about an hour ago!! Was it you doing the cancan on the island?

I have not a cat in hell's chance of catching up with everyone's doings but soop, you know I think you are wonderful and now my admiration knows no bounds! I hope the Consultant can help.

I'm glad that the news is more positive Morethan, you are another person who has my admiration. I'm not sure I could cope as you do.

It is necessary, at this point, for me to apologise for starting the last 3 paragraphs with I!! My English teacher must be turning in her grave.

Please don't mention property programmes. I could sit and watch all day and also have a serious RightMove habit!! blush

GD, Chatsworth is a fabulous place. We used to take picnics there when I was a girl. My youngest brother found watches in the grounds on three occasions and was given a reward by the owner of one. It kept us out of mischief for hours searching for more.

corner, I am sorry that you are suffering and everyone else whose back and various other joints are causing them pain, you have my sympathy.

Anyway, I really came in for a granny gloat. The superstar that is Bertie got 'Star of the School' this week for his attitude to work and his achievement. He's 6 and has really suffered because his father is an Idiot! His new Daddy, on the other hand, is fabulous and he and DD3 are great parents. Persie said she was so proud she nearly cried!! I am so chuffed for all of them.

I have a couple of photos of Wolfie and one of DD2's daughters off to the school disco to add but have to do that from my phone confused

kittylester Thu 25-Oct-18 17:02:53

Photos!

maddyone Thu 25-Oct-18 17:04:03

Hello everyone, goodness me, I didn’t look in for a couple of days and I’m left behind in the news stakes, I’ve got to feed and bath the adorable four year old twins now after a hectic day and night with them (at 4.30am we had a delightful little visitor snuggling down between us, it took me back many years!) Anyway I’ll have a read about what you’ve all been up to later.
