Can anyone remember that 'clapping' game we played as children. (Girls only.) You would have your two hands up in front of you, and smack the hands of the little girl playing with you. (Very hard to describe in words ...!) Firstly smack with two hands, then with one - right hand to right hand, then left hand to left hand, then two hands again, etc. There was also an 'up and down' smack.
There were loads of songs that went with this - but, sadly, I can only remember just one - and this might remind you of the game:
"A sailor went to sea, sea, sea,
To see what he could see, see, see.
But all that he could see, see, see,
Was the bottom of the deep blue sea, sea, sea."
Ooh - just remembered the beginning of another. It's coming back to me ...!
"My mother told me, when I was goodie,
That she would buy me a rubber dolly,
But when I told her I'd kissed a soldier,
She wouldn't buy me a rubber dolly ......................?
Can't recall how this fascinating rhyme ends!
Any more ...?
(Going to teach granddaughter, if I can get a few more songs.)
Sometimes it’s just the small things that press the bruise isn’t it? 😢
