Gilly as Nfk says you did what you felt right in those circumstances & with the information you had at that time. HMRC can appear really scary and horribly demanding and when you are under stress you do whatever you can and for the best of reasons too. Don't beat yourself up about things you cannot change. Wish I was super rich to help out.

gillybob, at least you know that you did the right (and honourable) thing at the time. I’m pleased your day at least turned out better than you expected. Fingers crossed for a better week as well. I’m another who would love to live by the sea again - I didn’t appreciate it enough when it was on my doorstep.

Oh Gilly I’m sorry you’re feeling like this. You seem to have had a good day today though so maybe repeat it next week or plan something different so that you’d have it to look forward to? Your loyalty and commitment to your family is second to none and it seems so unfair that you have these financial worries through no fault of your own. Could you maybe do something in the office to take your mind off how much you hate it? Even talking to us! I wish I could be of more help.

Yes, We did. Noah's Ark. I've been to the distillary many times and I always enjoy the summer fete and cricket on the village green.
I feel fortunate to live in such a nice area and here's a pic taken on a walk on Blackdown last year and one of sunset taken 2 weeks ago near to town.

Sounds as though you and your husband work really hard, employ people and don’t see the reward for all your effort. No wonder Monday seems like ‘groundhog day’ to you.

Wow! Thanks for that but I must mention thatmt I don't drink any alcohol, I don't like the taste...wine spirits, whatever. I went right off it after having my first child although I did imbibe quite a selection of tongue looseners in my salad days but NEVER gin...ugh!
I must admit that it would take something earth shattering for me to object to anyone 'having a go' at me. Everyone is entitled to their view and, in some cases, their remarks are warranted and taken on board.
I could not imagine taking umbrage at any GNers. I may appear, on the page, to be 'hard' but the steely exterior conceals a marshmallow core.

Paper mache, tin whistle, keyboard ( very badly), art, jigsaws, reading(of course), gardening, writing memoirs..there's so much to do. A day isn't enough.

Oh Overthehills I honestly don’t know what I would do without GN to keep me company during the day at work and I dip in and out most days.

Urmstongran The insurance is still on going as we are having to claim on our own policy and go through legal channels to get her to accept liability. It seems she has given a different address and has recently had her phone cut off in a bid to avoid us. Thankfully I took out legal protection with the policy which means they will pursue her on our behalf ( well I hope they will) I am upset that in the mean time we are having to pay out for a hire van and will no doubt lose our no claims bonus pushing our next premium through the roof. I expect this will go on for some time yet..... (thank you for asking)

I really can’t see an end to this pickle that we find ourselves in. Yes it does stick in my throat that we did what we did “in order to hold our heads up high” as we thought at the time. What a joke. If I had the chance again I certainly wouldn’t do it. Plenty small businesses who went down around that time came back bigger and better whereas we simply haven’t recovered.

Sorry to be trivial gillybob but I loved Britt Marie. Not sure exactly why but she sneaked up on me. Loved Ove too. I hope you enjoyed losing yourself in that world even for a little while.

May be it's not things to do that you want, but people to do them with? Sharing a walk and chatting en route, even cinema, or a craft session. For me, it's sharing a few hours with a friend that makes me feel happier.

Gilly you are under such enormous stress, I’m sure I’d have crumbled long ago. I so admire your tenacity. for you.

When I need a bit of respite I try to do something which doesn’t allow me to think about anything other than what I’m doing, jigsaws are great for that and I don’t agree they are for older people, I have a friend 10 years my junior who enjoys them as much as I do.

I was one of the posters I think EllenVannin ‘on your case’. I am really sorry. I misunderstood some comments and honestly thought posters were being mean to GabriellaG. Anyway, a storm in a teacup. Actually, no. I hate the shreds.
As a child, I used to painstakingly dig out the shreds from the spoonful on the side of my plate and spread the rest. Mum used to put them all back on the toast.
I learned to keep the shreds in the side of my mouth and remove them into my napkin at the end of the meal.
I remove the core of tomatoes and the chalazae (stringy bit) in eggs too.
