Infiltration

I think we have an infiltration of ‘jokers’ on the threads at the moment Well of course it may be the same person with a variety of names but I have noticed four (at least) new names who are ‘ having fun’ with us
I presume reporting them and letting Gransnet sort them out is the only way forward
Has anyone else noticed ?
We need a sin bin

That’s a nice post Izabella and I believe all any of us want is to preserve the integrity of the forum and not have the pxxx taken at the expense of some really kind posters who want to help

holdingontometeeth Tue 18-Dec-18 17:32:19

Thank you Izabella
There are certain members who post as if they are above other lass established posters.
They are that smug in their believed invincibility that they forget that they too were newbies once.

Izabella Tue 18-Dec-18 17:10:59

holdingontometeeth don't let it put you off posting. Another one deleted by HQ after I reported a few minutes ago. Not done out of malice, glee, superiority, nor as an anti-newby persecution or any of that. Merely trying to protect fellow posters and the integrity of Gransnet.

holdingontometeeth Tue 18-Dec-18 15:23:09

It must be really taxing for you long time members, being persecuted and under siege.
As a relative newbie, I cant fathom out how you are all so successful in outing trolls or malicious threads, but you all appear to take glee in your actions, irrespective of the upset you may cause to sensitive, genuine posters who have the audacity to post a Thread.
I wonder how there can be that many Threads still running as you collectively claim to have outed so many of them.
Just some suggestions that I have read on this Thread -

Too many games. Well, shock horror. Why not PM all the players and tell them to desist from enjoying themselves

Newbies have their own section, where their first posts were examined and either passed or refused by one of your ilk, the more experienced GN contributors, AKA The Inner Circle or The Thought Police

Males shouldn't be on as it would deter some from discussing Menstruation etc.

Spotting links to Malware. You have got me on that one. The only defence to malware I have is that I don't click on anything that I am suspicious about.

Misandry Jalima! you is dissing Mr J and referring to him him in a negative male stereotypical way shock

Jalima1108 Mon 17-Dec-18 15:11:16

It normally operates some other outdoor lights which are normally switched off at the end of the evening.

hmm

Cue for glazed expression!

GrannyGravy13 Mon 17-Dec-18 15:09:57

Jalima, I have this every year, and always get told off for touching the "wrong" switch or timer ???

Jalima1108 Mon 17-Dec-18 15:06:49

It has just been mansplained to me exactly how I have messed up the timer on the outside Christmas lights.
If only OH had mansplained that the relevant switch in the kitchen should not be turned off under any circumstances in the first place!

Jalima1108 Mon 17-Dec-18 15:04:31

I've only just discovered this thread, but was drawn to Grandad1943's comments, maybe because he'd made such bizarre attestations on another thread.

I see what you're referring to now Terribull, yes pertinent to this thread. That post was a while ago now so I had forgotten it was on here.

As for misandry, being the mother of sons yes I'm well aware that it exists, it's not great and I have taken exception to ads in the past that seek to portray men as inept, but compared to the misogyny aimed at women and what some women in the world have to endure, it's small potatoes.
I agree.

As for GN - a light-hearted thread about the foibles of the OH or a male relative can surely not be mistaken as misandry - likewise, if a male Gransnetter wishes to start a light-hearted thread about something which may puzzle him about his OH or a female relative it would surely not be taken as misogyny.

janeainsworth Mon 17-Dec-18 14:57:50

bluebelle Mansplaining is when your OH (assuming he’s not a woman) comes into your kitchen and starts explaining how you could be making your mince pies differently (better), or how you should be using a different implement for peeling the potatoes.
In other words, belittling you by telling you how to do something that you’ve been able to do since you were six.
Needless to say MrA is never guilty of this crime against womanhood grin

Jalima1108 Mon 17-Dec-18 14:53:26

must be my page 1 Terribull!

TerriBull Mon 17-Dec-18 14:48:55

I can see a couple of you think I've gone off topic, but was responding to two posts on page 2 of this thread made by Grandad1943, which were similarly not really pertinent to the subject. Possibly if you read my response in conjunction with his posts you will get the gist of what I'm saying.

I'm glad you have no idea what a cis woman is BlueBell, none of us should, to enlighten you however, the "cis" is a prefix used by the trans supporting lobby to distinguish between all of us who are natal women and transwomen. "Mansplaining" a hybrid of man and explaining.

Jalima1108 Mon 17-Dec-18 12:56:34

Actually, that's a good post Terribull, but it could get lost on here.

MawBroon Mon 17-Dec-18 12:18:49

Terribull confused
Am I missing something?

Bathsheba Mon 17-Dec-18 12:15:23

Another obvious one bites the dust
The hair cutting granny one
Oh I missed that one! Damn, must be more vigilant grin

BlueBelle Mon 17-Dec-18 12:06:10

Not sure where this fits in Terribull This thread wasn’t a moan about men but people who set up fake accounts to write ‘a problem’ to get grannies ‘going’ so to speak
No idea what Cis women are or mansplaining

Maybe you can start a thread on it

TerriBull Mon 17-Dec-18 11:12:56

I've only just discovered this thread, but was drawn to Grandad1943's comments, maybe because he'd made such bizarre attestations on another thread.

The name Gransnet, an offshoot of it's larger sister Mumsnet, may well be outdated in his view of an all encompassing world, but whilst both sites run conversational threads that cover a gamut of subjects that pertain to what is happening in the world, as their name suggests they were also conceived with women in mind. Women who sometimes want to come together to exchange experiences on physical conditions such as the menopause, periods, childbirth etc. etc. None of us want to see men precluded from GN, however, I for one am fed up with this current trend of being asked to redefine ourselves "Cis" women to give an example, to fit in with the wishes of those who aren't women.

As for misandry, being the mother of sons yes I'm well aware that it exists, it's not great and I have taken exception to ads in the past that seek to portray men as inept, but compared to the misogyny aimed at women and what some women in the world have to endure, it's small potatoes. I really think it's a bit weird that a man would come on to a site such as GN and trawl through various threads, particularly if they are intended to be light hearted spirit and then chide the participants for their contributions accusing them of misandry. No wonder we now have the word "mansplaining"

BlueBelle Mon 17-Dec-18 10:02:13

Another obvious one bites the dust
The hair cutting granny one It was pretty obvious it was a joker from the start but still irritating as people start trying to help
Do these posters get an automatic ban

Bathsheba Fri 14-Dec-18 19:12:48

I don't think the screaming child one was a made up one - I think the poster possibly felt awkward at the many negative responses, and asked for it to be deleted.
And come to think of it, the other deleted thread I was thinking of was, in fact, the toilet language one. Hey ho, it's a busy time of year and my brain gets a bit fried tchblush

Bathsheba Fri 14-Dec-18 19:08:14

When I refreshed the screaming child one, it said that it had been deleted at the poster's request.
But wasn't there another one recently too? As well as this one and the toilet language one? Can't remember now, but I'm sure there's been a third one in the last day or two...

Jalima1108 Fri 14-Dec-18 18:33:19

I can't find one about screaming mumofmadboys

BlueBelle Fri 14-Dec-18 18:22:13

Me too Jalima

mumofmadboys Fri 14-Dec-18 18:08:56

Has that thread been removed?
