I have started to do this since about three weeks ago.I am i am not making this up but the difference in the texture of my skin is amazing.Like all of us, as we get older our skin dries out, i always use lotion everyday, and now with eating 3/4 walnuts daily i have also seen a huge improvement in dry skin. It is recomended for a healthy heart so this must be a added bonus.

I'm allergic to nuts so I'll give this one a miss lol

Chopped or whole walnuts from Aldi are not too expensive and do well in coffee and walnut cake. I like them in cake - also have a recipe for brown bread and scones which includes them, but never noticed any particular health benefits.

Well after reading this thread I just bought a tub of walnuts. They're crunchier than I thought they'd be somehow or maybe they're just fresh. Whatever. I've just eaten 4. No sign of improvement yet. Impatient? Moi?!

Walnut butter in soups, on fruit with yogurt, and of course on bread. Lovely. Expensive but so are the nuts

Just got some from Lidl.... DH and I are happy to test them.

We eat walnuts, Brazil’s, cashews (unsalted) we buy them in Lidl’s. Have a handful everyday and some fruit too.

Don't you nut eaters think the quality of nuts is variable, whether you buy from Waitrose or Lidl? Some brazils and hazelnuts taste bitter and dry to me. I reckon most nuts are not very fresh, or have been incorrectly stored.

Love walnuts but they are expensive so I decorate the coffee cake with them but don’t include them.

Recently I've developed a liking for nuts after a lifetime of loathing them. As a child I loved cracking them open for my Dad at Christmas but that's as far as it went. I found them dry & tasteless. Strange how one's taste changes with age. I'm off to buy more walnuts.....ever hopeful grin

Every morning I eat Muesli with fruit, usually blueberries or raspberries, topped with walnuts and a drizzle of honey.

It keeps me regular. I have good skin and very few wrinkles, but I think that's a genetic trait as my Mum, who didn't eat walnuts , or any nuts really, had beautiful skin.

I do prefer my walnuts in a slice of coffee or walnut cake, it has to be said. Chocolate and walnut brownies are a favourite too, and I am not a lover of chocolate cakes really. I am not tempted by nut-free brownies at all. grin

I love walnuts squashed into cake or atop it, or a few bits mixed in with cereal, but can’t just sit and eat them on their own.
Is there any real evidence that they make you look any better?

I crushed down a load of walnuts and have started sprinting them on my cereal. Its only been 9 days so I will have to wait and see.

Isn’t there a shortage of Brazil nut trees? Something about them not being able to be grown in plantations and being destroyed with the forests for mono cultures?

Grandmama Mon 10-Dec-18 19:14:54

My home-made rocket fuel breakfast is made up of every sort of nut and seed mixed together with plant-based yoghourt. Delicious. Now three score years and ten and hair is still salt and pepper rather than totally grey and very few facial wrinkles so maybe it works (or it's just the genes!).

Walnuts are great as a snack ( but no more than 4 Brazil’s apparently).

Vonners Mon 10-Dec-18 18:13:06

Love Lidl walnuts, also their Brazils. Can't stop at 1 or 2 tho, or even 3 or 4. I do wonder if I should pay more and get organic from the health food store tho. Anyone know how non organic nuts are treated?

Kim19 Mon 10-Dec-18 17:54:41

I buy my walnuts pre packed in Lidl. Cheapest by far I can find but I'm always on the lookout for better.

BBbevan Mon 10-Dec-18 17:44:36

Only that some walnuts seem to go through intact. Which can be a tad painful ?

Riggie Mon 10-Dec-18 17:17:54

Brazil Nuts are good for you too. I think they help the skin and also contain selenium which is something we need but often don't get naturally.

The dose is 5 Brazil Nuts a day.

I've got rather nice skin and always thought I'd inherited it from my mum rather than anything I eat but who knows. I eat healthily and always have done and that includes a variety of nuts rather than one particular nut. I'm not keen on hazelnuts or macadamias but apart from that I eat most others fairly regularly. I certainly wouldn't count them as I eat them by the handful added to muesli and as snacks etc. I find the best muesli is Holland and Barrett's rich Muesli with added nuts and fruits eaten with Greek yoghurt.

Cherry tree.
Most mornings I have a Nutribullit shake made up of spinach, avocado, banana raspberries, blueberries. And always throw in a few walnuts too. That way you can’t taste them, but getting all the goodness.

Must put in a word for Almonds.

Kateykrunch Mon 10-Dec-18 14:26:32

Of course it does Crafty! X

Craftycat Mon 10-Dec-18 13:54:42

I really don't like any nuts at all but I can handle walnuts in coffee & walnut cake- does that count?

Kateykrunch Mon 10-Dec-18 13:01:47

Oooooo, walnuts on my shopping list, thanks for the tips x
