Oldest food in Freezer.

Well, I'm pleased to say that as we've been working our way through the freezer, in readiness for restocking for Christmas, that I haven't found anything too old or ghastly.
We've eaten it all. ?
I must add that we only have the small freezer below the fridge, so we don't have much storage space.

oh heck, shouldn’t try posting after a couple of glasses of wine?! The apples were best before 10 July..

Not a freezer story but went round to Mum’s today and noticed the fridge was a bit whiffy. It was the few days past best before date broccoli that was causing the problem and not the unopened bag of Pink Lady Apples - they looked perfect ( that, and the fact that the bag was label side down, hopefully goes some way to explaining why I hadn’t hoiked them out before......)

Oh yes, but all the labels are stuck in the frost at the bottom. Even then ours don't usually have dates on them.

Sorry to say that there seem to be quite a few UFO's in our freezer, that stands for "Unidentified Frozen Objects"

I think that most of them are left over casserole/stew, but can't be totally sure.

Mr P did suggest that we defrosted one of them and have it for supper (we are at zero space in the freezer until the turkey comes out) but it seemed a bit risky!

I'm pretty sure they were labelled when they went in..............

They will be fine for making jelly.

I never keep meat/homemade dishes/soups for very long though.

I'm not sure, but 'the antiques roadshow' have expressed an interest.

I defrost and have a clear out annually so nothing older than a year usually. The dogs are usually more than happy to polish it off once defrosted.

I think we have a couple of dinosaur ? legs in ours. It will make a change from turkey ?. ?

I have two shelf type freezers so they do not hold a vast amount which is just as well because nothing is labelled- I rely on my fabulous memory!!!

I bought beautiful labels on Amazon and all I have done is take them out of the packaging. One day I will sort everything out.

I threw out loads of food recently as I had to empty my large freezer prior to moving as I was leaving it behind. I felt bad wasting so much but a lot was freezer burnt, old or unlabelled so could not offer to anyone else. The few items I brought with me had to be thrown out as, due to bank problems, everything stayed on the removal lorry for 3 days.

I'm glad I only have a small freezer in the kitchen, although we do have sprouts from last Christmas. I am the only one who eats them so they tend to get forgotten.

I had a sort out of the freezer earlier this year and found an M&S apple pie from 2007.

I must admit to putting our sadly deceased cat in there, well wrapped of course, and away from the food, until the ground was soft and diggable enough for us to bury her in the garden....did not want a decomposing body in the garage!

I have some gooseberries, at least 18mths old which I AM going to make a crumble with eventually.....

I threw plenty out in August/September when defrosting the freezer. Half a black bag full went in the bin with stuff from last Christmas.
I'll have to mend my ways if we start having those " food bins " here or I'll be fined for sacrilegiousness. Chops which looked to be frozen in time resembled wood, unreal.

I'm bad enough about dates on food as it is and will chuck out 2/3 day items as I'm paranoid about food poisoning which thankfully I've never had in my life and aim to keep it that way. I'm the world's worst waster I regret to say.

Hard to say, Marydoll, what with the boxes I don’t label and the labels that fall off. I dug out some leftover birthday cake of DGS2’s the other day and was offering it round with a caveat that it was 6 months old, then realised that from the weird shapes on it it was 2017’s Tracy Island, not this year’s Disco cake. The young folk all declined it, sensibly pointing out that it had in any case been spat over by a load of 4 year olds when they were blowing the candles out.

DH and I ate it when they’d gone home.

DH keeps old bits of meat in the freezer so that the DGSs can feed the Red Kites when they come to stay each summer. This is frowned upon so they only do it once, but the birds are spectacular close up.

I’ve got an 18 month old leg of lamb.
