I always loved the bacon and onion gravy but was never too keen on the liver which came with it. I have to confess that I have never cooked liver, as DH is very squeamish about offal.

Enough for 2 Greyduster
I am going to have a "fry-up" tonight with bacon, egg and mushrooms and I have , very lazily, taken some chopped frozen onions out of the freezer and will cook the other half with those with gravy and mash for tomorrow.
Love liver, Ann - lay another plate! Bacon? Onion gravy, maybe? ?
Izabella, The Duracell Bunny has long been my son’s pet name for his Dad, on account of his indefatigability, and it has stuck. I doubt that it crossed his mind that it might have other connotations (at 52? really?). It never actually crossed mine until today! Next time he uses it should be amusing!
Just one tiny thing about solo living that is good is eating what you want.
It is liver tonight, any takers?
Thanks for sharing that Greyduster! ?. Cannellini bean soup or chicken curry on the side. The samosas will be there soon - when I have fetched them!
Oops!!
. ?
Greyduster do you really have a duracell bunny?
Good morning, the kitchen!
A very Happy Birthday to Bertie, and hope you enjoy your cuddles with Wolfie, Kitty! Photo please!
Willow, if it had been maths homework, he wouldn’t have needed any help from me - he’s a bit of a maths whizz. (I was very consistent at maths at school; I never came any higher than bottom of the class!! I was actually about 18 before the scales fell from my eyes and I started to understand what numbers were all about). It was actually art homework. He had to make a primary and secondary colour wheel out of collage materials. He sent a photo of the finished article last night and I was quite impressed, I have to say. Good luck with the wall unit - I keep thinking we should have an inventory check of what is in ours, but keep putting it off “for another day”. Ours is full of redundant china too!
Nannytopsy that is a regiment to cook for! I love Centerparcs. Couldn’t do the bike thing now, though. Hope you all have a lovely time!
Dragonfly you must be on your knees this morning. I hope your DH is improving and you both manage to get some rest today.
Ann I hope you, too, managed to get some sleep. You seem to be lurching from one dilemma to another at the moment and having these things on your mind is wearing. Kitty sounds to have some good advice to offer.
Well my Duracell bunny’s back is no better today. He is moving gingerly and sleeping badly which means I am too. He has never had a problem with his back and I think he is quite shocked by it. He will just have to be patient.
I will look in later.
Happy Birthday Bertie! Not a good time Dragonfly - [hugs]
Good Morning Hope everyone had a good night.
Willow if you contact your local Fire Brigade they will fit a smoke detector for free. No. 2 son is a firefighter- only one he didn’t want to fit was ours because of Dhs decorating ?
Nannytopsy enjoy Centreparcs with everyone it’s years since I’ve been
Hope your day goes well
Sorry too many nights in there - must be playing on my mind because I was up all night!
Happy Birthday Bertie - that is a great age!!
My mum still gets AA and she is self funding - she gets the full amount - it isn't much but every little helps.
DH had a hypo last night so had to get the paramedics in last night. Then I had to stay with him all night in case he got another one. Seeing the GP this morning.
Morning! I've just done some catching up but don't have time to say much.
But I just wanted to say to ann that I think you can keep AA if you are self funding. We did with Mum and I'm fairly sure it hasn't changed. I'm sure you are on top of things but don't forget to get your Council Tax changed and maybe try for the backdated Council Tax reduction for your Dh's dementia. You might get it backdated to the date of diagnosis until the date he went into permanent care. Age UK will help.
Back later, I've got Wolfie coming today with his mum.
And, Bertie is 7 today!!
Good morning the Kitchen. I hope everyone managed to get enough sleep ?. Early start here again as I have a friend’s 11 yo with tonsillitis coming to lie on my sofa shortly. We are off to Centreparcs later, so lots of cooking to do. We will be 12 adults, 2 teenagers and 4 toddlers, so massive amounts of food! Have a good day one and all.
Just catching up and realised my post had crossed yours Soop so apologies for missing the news about MacS's rash. What a puzzle - have you changed your soap powder or bathing products recently? Or has he had a medication change? Thank goodness it doesn't seem to be serious but I hope it's not too uncomfortable for him.
Today is/was Mr W's day off but the blessed smoke detector on the landing right outside his door started beeping at 4.30 so when I came down just after 5 he was already up and not in a very happy mood. He's now taken the thing off the ceiling and gone back to bed. As it's a sealed unit we'll have to get a replacement.
Izabella hope you are not coming down with something – it is very cold so fingers crossed it’s not a bug. I dread February – it’s my birthday and I’m always ill. At least this year I’m no longer working so won’t have the dreaded audit to deal with!
Marydoll does your hospital serve chinese meals? Hope the visit went well.
GreyD I'm not surprised you beat a hasty retreat from the maths homework - I would have instantly referred him to Mr Google for a solution to the lack of instruments although my other half would have enjoyed the challenge. Being an engineer has it's uses. Apparently yesterday his colleagues were looking at a piece of equipment suspended high up and wondering how to measure it. He said it's 60mm plus 1mm for paint - they didn't believe him so managed to get it down and low and behold it was exactly what he'd said - 50 years of experience has it's benefits
Daph is most put out that she can't get into the conservatory as the door is firmly closed due to the enormous amount of 'stuff' in there out of the wall unit including my mother's huge dinner service. We are hopefully going to get the unit put back together today and paint the wall behind it so it can be pushed back into place and I can refill it. Some I have already disposed off including several bottles of cream liqueur which were years old - who knew that it goes solid in the bottle and needs poking with a stick to remove the contents! I also need to sort out the hundreds of DVDs and CDs most of which can be car booted when Mr W finally retires although I'm not sure there will be many takers for most of my CD's - heavy metal from the 90's is so old hat
Hoping you all have a good day and someone leaves something delicious on the table. We are still eating the Christmas cake I made which I have to say is rather good but heavy on the calorie side!
So, after a long and tiring day, MacS is still a walking mystery!
GreyD, I`m glad the school run was completed successfully.
Oh my word! You lovely lot do not know the meaning of taking things easy. How on earth am I supposed to catch up with your perpetual motion
I am sorry to learn of Ann's latest worries. She really deserves some peace of mind after an awful few months of uncertainty.
Well now...we have been blessed with visitors from the Argy, what's more, they didn't come empty handed. Bless them for remembering that most of us are lovers of rich, wholesome cake. I was invited into their kitchen (just the once) and, although it left much to be desired (hygene-wise), the poteen that I had been forced to sample, fortunately blurred my senses.
Dear MacSporran is dozing. Our GP who referred him to A&E, phoned to check on the outcome of the hospital visit. she has suggested that I photograph the rash. Wonderful NHS.
My love to you all. Tomorrow is a new day. I shall return in the morning.
Good evening the kitchen. School run completed and despite the dark, a switchback country road and the scariest roundabout in the city at rush hour, we got there and back in one piece. DH said the car seat was more comfortable than anything he had sat in all day and asked if I would bring his supper out to him as he didn’t want to leave it!
Soop I hope MacS’s rash is something that can be named and treated. Is it making him uncomfortable or is it just unsightly? A friend of mine had something similar that remained unnamed, untreated and a puzzle to the medics for some time - and then went away on its own.
Izabella your CH’s bread sounds lovely. It would have gone down well with DH’s disasterous soup which we had for supper. It wasn’t bad at all really, in spite of all the wailing and gnashing of teeth!
I stupidly involved myself in overseeing GS’s homework project after school today. It was doomed from the start. He had left his geometry set at school, so he had to resort to drawing round a dinner plate to get a circle, which then had to be divided into six sections, but the only protractor he could find was in two pieces and all the numbers had just about worn off!! Sixty degrees? Forget it! Will you settle for seventy instead? But he did a decent job in spite of that. Then he read the brief again and discovered that it had to be done on a sheet of A4 and he had started on A3. Back to the drawing board. None of DD’s plates fitted an A4 sheet, so we had to empty the fruit bowl! At this stage I wanted to crawl under the table and die of frustration! Then we had a bit of a hiatus because he was hungry and went looking for something to eat! Mercifully, at that point, his father came home so we could make a graceful exit. Well, not graceful - we sort of fell over ourselves in our haste to get out of the door
! Love the boy!
Have a pleasant evening folks.
callgirl1 yes current indeed. No thoughts of changing, but keeps him on his toes.
Div, widowed, remarried. 3 quite enough. No.3 absolutely amazing and worth waiting for ? One never knows what is around the corner - and its not always bad!
Annesixty I am so sorry your troubles continue. There really is always something to bring us down. Sending a virtual hug to you - and of course to anyone else who needs support this evening.
I am still wrapped up and cold, so hoping another bug is not on the way. I have too much to do.
Just popped in for news of McSporran and Soop and there you were Soop.
Glad to here you are safely back home, not a drive I would envy.
I too have spent a long day at a hospital in Glesga, but I managed to squeeze in a Chinese lunch in amongst all the comings and goings..
I also managed to buy a very large strawberry tart ?for my after dinner cuppa, which I'm sorry to say, is not for sharing!
.
(((Hug))) for all Kitcheners with sorrows and ailments tonight.
Ooh fresh bread Izabella – far too tempted especially warm with lashings of butter! I guess virtual is much better for my cholesterol!
Massimo hope you manage to stay warm but don’t get too wrinkly in that bath! It’s very cold here but so far no snow but I did hear it had been snowing on the east coast this morning so maybe it’s on the way – hopefully it will wait until Mr W is home from work tonight.
Ann how lovely Molly is keeping you company during the night – I bet she loves it when you are up though – playtime
I do hope you get a better night’s sleep tonight but today’s frustrations may have put paid to that. I really hope you get the letter before too long – it’s bad enough having the emotional ups and downs without financial worries too.
Panache it’s great things are finally moving – the senior gent may well have more influence than a younger person to kick *e
Grey hope you’ve managed with the school run – I’m pretty bad at driving these days and try to avoid going out when it’s school time here as the school is nearby and the traffic at the top of our road is dreadful. I remember Marlene and Education Archie when I was a child
Callgirl hope your son’s scan shows nothing too serious.
Pleased you’re sorted with the heating in the west wing N&G in time for the weather turning cold. If you need a coffee station I find a kitchen trolley is just the job
Hoping all these stubborn men start to take note of their wives – they’re not called better halves for nothing!
Waiting to hear how MacS’s appointment went – fingers firmly crossed it’s easily treated.
Spent a busy afternoon with silver wallpaper – I await the comments from my other half!
Should have typed "have" not "shave"...
A very quick visit. Been in Oban all day. Just returned home and dead beat. MacS's all-over rash remains a complete mystery...albeit a "spectacular" one. He has seen two doctors and a Consultant. He has six blood samples sent to lab and the result shows no sign of an infection. He is 90% covered in a florrid, blotchy mass that looks like something hanging in the Tate Modern. He returns to shave his regular appointment with the heamatologist, in the same hospital, in two weeks. Perhaps she'll be able to explain the whys and wherefores.
I must away to prepare tonight's supper. If at all possible, I shall have a proper catch-up Kindle hour later in the evening. I need to discover what has been happening in my absence. Until then...a huge (((group hug))) for every one to benefit from.
Oh Ann , negotiating the care system with out help is beyond difficult ! xxx
Soop here's hoping McS has something a soothing cream can help xxx
