I loved working on the wards for the elderly when I was nursing.

trisher your mum sounded like my dear old friend who died a year ago at 98, telling the staff what to do. The spirit of some of them is amazing right up to the end, which is true to how I remember her.

I hope he's making a good recovery nonasusie.
A friend had that and it was extremely painful.

Yes, the staff are wonderful and so many of us have much to thank them for.

Thanks EV she was 95 but they nursed her with every expectation of returning her to a normal life, only admitted limited mobility when it was inevitable and fought for her at the end, but she had agreed to a DNRA and slipped quietly away. Just before she died she was still giving instructions to the nurses!

Aww trisher so sad but top marks for the dedication shown on your mother's final days. It's reassuring to know that.

2018 has been a year when I saw much of the NHS. The care they gave my mum was exceptional. Everyone did their best for her from her social worker to her consultant. I will be eternally grateful to them all for making her last days the best they could and also for letting her go when it was time. Thanks to everyone and for a wonderful organisation.

I have nothing but praise for our NHS. They saved my life in 2006-------and I'm still here ! Not in such bad health either thanks to them and their wonderful skills.

Coolgran my DGS has had several GA's DD always says being a comic is part of the remit for "the gas man" (anaesthetist)

Nothing but praise for th NHS from us. DH had first of many problems age 48. At 71 and with new problems diagnosed he is still with us. We have always been well looked after.

It does mean a slightly extended holiday. Should have been flying home on Saturday. Much better here than Italy!!

So pleased to hear all is well - glad the NHS came up trumps.

nonnasusie, what a shock! I do hope he is now making a good recovery and soon be home.

Fab NHS. One week ago my dh got a telephone call from the local hospital where he was on the waiting list to have his gall bladder removed. Could be come in the next morning. Absolutely. In and out after keyhole surgery. Wonderful staff, so friendly and an anaesthetist who should have been on the stage he was so funny. Great at making my very nervous dh feel calm.

Not me, it's my husband but I did get out of helping DD and partner. Thanks for good wishes.
