Daft family nicknames.

When our three DD's were little they were Plum, Toots and Nellie - no idea why for the first two but the third because her name is Helen. Now they are all Gorgeous as that's what my DH calls them when they ring as he can't tell their voices apart on the phone!

Gagagran I have an Inspector Clouseau!

He wants to know who was at the door, why things are left where they are ("I put them there"), what they are for ("Wait and you'll find out") and what the discarded envelope contained ("I can't remember").

I call him "Loppy Lugs", I have no idea where that came from.

I hasten to add, he is not controlling, he just likes to know things!

I've downloaded it, Ellan Vannin. That's what he sings whilst I'm bent double trying to tie double knots in his favourite fishing boots.

DD and the DGSs are coming to dinner tonight so I've compiled a playlist for background music. Mostly blues and ageing rocker music.

I tend to call the GC sweetie pie that way I don't have to trawl through all family names before reaching the correct name.

Merlotgran a Liverpool group from years ago who were called the " Scaffold " made a record called Thank you very much for the Aintree Iron.

Strangely we don't tend to have nicknames for our three children but have lots for the dog! My husband calls her 'little legs' (because they are!) and I call her 'Lottieloulou'. There are others but these are the main ones

When DD1 was a baby we nicknamed her 'Nebuchadnezzar King of the Jews'. I have no idea why, although she did sometimes look like a little old man when learning to sit up. Fortunately for her these days we just use a shortened form of her real name.

We use nicknames which get replaced from time to time too. DH's current one is "Inspector Clouseau" because he likes to know the ins and outs of every decision I make. Drives me mad so the nickname eases the irritation somewhat! He calls me different ones on different days. I like nicknames.

Not so long ago we had a thread discussing silly names we use for our grandchildren. Most of us found nicknames are harmless fun but one very snippy poster declared that they were nonsense and could confuse youngsters!
I think your DH's nickname for you is clever and appropriate. I wish him a very happy birthday ( but if that becomes today's ear-worm I 'll be back to complain!)

We mostly have rhyming nicknames in our family and my eldest grandson had great fun relating them all when he made a 'speech from the grandchildren' at my recent birthday party.
