Unfortunately the idea of "deradicalising" this young woman is flawed. Firstly because it is not a foolproof process and people can blag their way through; and secondly it cannot be made compulsory (except by a court) and my guess is she would simply either not co-operate or just go through the motions whilst retaining her radical views.

PECS----I don't wish to digress from this case but I do have another case in mind where the Met have covered up their mistakes as well as an area of police officers, so know only too well.

On reflection, I don't think this is the most sensible or pragmatic decision either.
Whilst I don't think we should rush to bring her back here, or help her return in any way (she is presumably safe enough where she is now), it would be better for her family to arrange for her to come back here, take her in and look after her here.
She can then be monitored by the security services, we will know her whereabouts and whosoever she contacts.

What will happen if she goes to Bangladesh? They won't want her and she and the child will be possibly taken in by Daesh supporters to become a danger in the future.

My gut reaction was to feel as many posters here do, that this girl freely went to join Isis and should not be allowed back into this country. On reflection, it is obviously more complex. I feel proud that we are a country that upholds the law, whatever someone has done they get a fair trial. It appears that is is unlawful to remove someone's citizenship and leave them stateless, and there is disagreement whether she has Bangladeshi citizenship. This will rightly I think, be challenged in Court whatever the Home Secretary has stated. Would it be better for her to be here and monitored and on a de radicalisation programme, if they cannot find enough evidence to try her in court, or leave her to continue on her destructive radical path in a refugee camp or indeed Bangladesh, feeling even more hatred towards this country?

I haven't read the whole thread but I think this girl and her baby should be allowed back into this country. She was 15 when she went. People make mistakes when they are young. I think as a country we need to show compassion although she would need to be closely monitored. This does not mean I am not also deeply caring towards all the people killed at the hands of IS.

It is that type of faux knowledge statement that social media, lack if neutral reporting encourages. Very little in our newspapers or on TV news is neutral.

Can I just say that one of our AC has spent the majority of his career in the armed forces trying to flush out and bring Daesh to an end.

Not always in conflict, normally intelligence led, We are so proud of what they and their colleagues do for the UK each and every day.

GrannyGravy, her job would be far easier if she returned here------nobody breathing down her neck ( Daesh ) ? This is exactly how they operate and given her indifference on seeing beheadings it would only be a matter of time before there was another atrocity.

We already have 3,000 extremists here who are " on a list " and MI5 are particularly concerned about these people. They are under regular surveillance and watched a lot of the time.

Those who've returned from Syria after working for ISIS are stopped upon entry to the UK, interviewed and asked if they are sorry and wish to go on a prevent scheme. They're also told that they'll be monitored for a while and/or tagged with restrictions in place if authorities deem necessary.

Prior to travelling to Syria, if found to have watched a certain website their passports are then confiscated to prevent them from travelling to Syria.

My belief in the reason why this girl hasn't been allowed back is due to how the Met police first handled the case. The girl's parents hadn't wanted her to go to Syria so her father had rang police telling them of her arrangement and their answer was that " they saw no reason why she shouldn't go ".
The father had expressed his fear but the Met ignored him.

As a consequence she has now become a political football as does happen when police make a blunder which needs to be covered up. This in mind any appeals that her family make for her return will fall on deaf ears. Anything to do with the Met falls on deaf ears-----I know only too well when it comes to covering their mistakes.

I think the problems with brexit and the problems with ISIS are separate issues, and to suggest that people who are concerned about ISIS and all it means are automatically the ones who voted to leave the EU is misguided.

And yes, I do understand that part of our value system is to treat vulnerable people in a civilised way, but there is more to this - it is not black and white.

I do not think the Home Secretary had any choice. It is very sad indeed that this young woman was brainwashed in her early teens, but he had to take everything into account.

This is a very high profile case and being lenient would have sent out a message that UK is a soft touch for terrorists.

The woman herself is asking for forgiveness, but sadly it is clear from her interviews that the brainwashing is alive and well in her. She clearly has no grasp of the values that we hold dear.

I feel very sorry indeed for this young woman and others like her; but I do think the Home Sec has made the right decision.
