Hello. Can anyone share their experiences of having this ? I have read about nasty side effects and although my doctor says it's a good idea for over 65's, I'm reluctant to risk it. Thanks so much.

I had mine a couple of years ago along with the flu jab .
No side effects whatsoever.
Better than pneumonia anyway which can be fatal in the elderly.

No side effects for me I didn’t know I d had it and very well worth it as I ve had friends very very ill and one died
If you go in expecting your arm to fall off maybe it will I expected no ill effects and I got none

No side effects for me and DH either and I really don’t think there is any reliable data on side effects. People often muddled up correlation and causation.

Is this the Pneumoccocal vaccination you are enquiring about?
I had it on 26th Jan. Maybe I was unlucky, but I had a very painful arm, neck and shoulder for 10 days. Maybe I was under the weather, or maybe it could have been a reaction to other meds I am taking.
I was surprised, as usually I do not have any reaction from vaccinations.
A friend who had it the same day, was absolutely fine.

I was absolutely fine, with no side effects. Even if there were, It's better than dying from pneumonia.

DH and I had no problems either, recommend it (and the shingles jab, which gave me more of a sore arm!)

Anja Mon 18-Feb-19 09:59:15

No problems with this or shingles jab. Granddaughter (9) just diagnosed with shingles this morning.

Floradora9 Mon 18-Feb-19 10:00:39

No problems for me or DH .

Thing is you can react badly to any vaccine. It’s just the luck of the draw. I’ve had horrible reaction to ‘flu vaccination one year, but fine another year.

Yer pays yer money and you takes yer chance.

I had the vaccine a few years ago and no side effects but like others, I do not look for any.

M0nica Mon 18-Feb-19 10:03:30

DH and I have had it without effect.

Even if there are mild side effects, it is better than the alternative - a bad attack of pneumonia that could kill you.

My son had his in November [ due to low immune system ] along side the flu vaccination. No side effects from either.

sazz1 Mon 18-Feb-19 10:52:28

Ive had this a few years ago with no side effects at all

David1968 Mon 18-Feb-19 11:11:36

Same here - had it & no problems. Pneumonia is awful - be as well-inoculated as possible is my advice.

Grampie Mon 18-Feb-19 11:34:47

No anti-vaxxers here.

Bellanonna Mon 18-Feb-19 11:37:33

I had it some years ago. I don’t recall any side effects. Just get it done, dougaldog.

Husband and I had it a couple of years ago alongside flu vaccine. Slightly sore arm for a couple of days but could have been either jab that caused it. As it is a once in a lifetime only vaccine, surely it’s worth the risk of a sore arm.

NanTheWiser Mon 18-Feb-19 11:55:45

No side effects for me either. Far better a sore arm than pneumonia.

Elegran Mon 18-Feb-19 12:07:15

No problems when I had it either. Get it.

Elegran Mon 18-Feb-19 12:07:48

Seventeen posters so far with no effects, one with a slightly sore arm, one with a painful arm neck and shoulder (who is not sure it had anything to do with the vaccination)

Everyone says you should get it - or would you really rather be hospitalised with pneumonia and possibly die of it?

Anja Mon 18-Feb-19 12:08:35

Of course this is only 50-70% affective.

Greciangirl Mon 18-Feb-19 12:10:26

There are no side effects, at least not for me.

Don’t be a baby. Have it, or maybe risk pneumonia.

It’s a no brainier, really.

Willow500 Mon 18-Feb-19 12:19:44

I had mine a fortnight ago. The nurse said I might feel a little unwell in a couple of weeks later but it's not pneumonia. I started with a cold last week but that's the only after effect. Definitely recommend having it done.

Craftycat Mon 18-Feb-19 14:09:57

Had it with flu jab- no problem at all.
