The flowers from guests' bouquets and items from a 'flower arranging course' were reworked after the event by a firm that then passes them on to charity'.
I don't know what you think but having read details of the 'no expense spared' extravaganza, isn't this just a modern day version of 'crumbs from the rich man's table?'
I do think it's a good idea but I can't make up my mind about her motives. Showing off her vast wealth in the company of celebs like the Clooneys is not going to endear her to hard-up folk who normally turn out to support the Royals. Has nobody warned her it could all come crashing down?
Snobbery ? Certaintly not. I do like to see the royal family conducting themselves in public with dignity .
Other members of the royal family are given security so why is there such animosity of Meghan Markle? The monarchical system in its entirety is wrong, in my opinion. Why pick on one woman? It's becoming very much like a vendetta against her.
Perhaps the Americans will now temper their enthusiasm for all things royal, having seen the sort of spite and snobbery that has been aimed at an "outsider".
An exhibition of art is not the same as a baby shower surely
Nothing wrong with er visiting her American friends BUT what cost was the security to the taxpayers,, air flights, accommodation, etc plus did any staff go with her. To be honest I am fed up with MM and her flashy way of life. Whats more I am fed up seeing every picture of her holding her stomach with that stupid look on her face. Rant over.
You and I don’t know her, and for whatever reason, the press want to show her in a negative light.
The Queen showing her collection of Leonardo da Vinci drawings isn’t “flaunting her wealth”? Oh no, sorry, she’s “sharing it with the nation”.
Independently wealthy American woman can pay for her own security not the British tax payer

Re Megan Markle, maybe the shower could have knitted some octopuses for an ICU - that would perhaps have been a more "charitable" activity than the flower thing.
I think I will suggest this to future "Baby shower planbers"!
I can understand why MM wanted a baby shower. This could be her only baby so I think she wanted a baby shower as it is her tradition in her country. Her rich friends wanted to give her one so she went “home” to enjoy it and not upset her new family. It was the press that were making a big fuss and the only photos I saw were of MM and her high profile friends going in and out of the hotel.
The photos of the gifted flowers I would have thought were instigated by the charity that organises these donations and were in very poor taste.
I live outside the UK and the Brit’s enjoy celebrating Guy Fawkes, the Queens Birthday, st George’s, st Andrews, st Patricks and st David’s day and many other British traditions which they would not celebrate in the UK. Also ignoring this countries celebrations. MM takes part in all our traditions and some of the events must be a bit boring so let the woman have a Baby Shower without all this criticism.
I'm with paddyann on this. Baby showers seem rather "graspy" to me.
My daughter-in-law had one and I was expected to go, so I did. I have since told everyone in the family that although they are welcome to have them (obviously) they are not to ask me.
I've just read this back and it makes me sound grumpy. I'm not grumpy about it - and love to know people I love are enjoying themselves - but the whole format is just not me, and no-one minds if I absent myself !
I feel that as somebody in the public eye, when so many people are struggling she should conduct herself in a different way.
If she had wanted a quiet get together there are ways of doing this.
MM's gone to New York for a short break to see friends. She had royal protection officers who would have been with her had she been at home. She has her own money, which she worked for, same as many of of her US friends. We didn't pay for it, so we have little right to moan. As for flaunting the wealth, that's down to paps following her, and newspapers buying their photos. I'm sure she'd be thrilled if she could have just met friends quietly. And given that, other than her mother, her family seems unusual, it must be really good for her, as a mum-to-be, to keep older friendships going - same as for the rest of us.
If someone offered me a free shindig in the States on a private jet I'd go! Sadly, nobody has and nobody is likely too.
I am so fed up of hearing about Meghan markle, when you think of the stick Kate has been given over the years and yet that young woman rarely puts a foot wrong. As for Meghan I fear she is s very false young woman who is playing g a part as an actress and WHAT. Is with every picture having her hand on her bump! IMHO she won’t be round for long
Hilarious. Usual guff. Why couldn’t they come here ( why should they?) why didn’t she do that and this etc. She’s American and she has American friends, she’s entitled to spend some time in her home country doing what SHE wants with who ever she wants. She wasn’t working. It was a private trip. And the Clooneys dont have their home in the Cotswolds it Bucks. A bit like reading the Daily Mail here sometimes!
Shock horror - independently wealthy American woman flies to America to see her friends who give her gifts for her baby. Really!!! I suppose she could have flown with easyjet or Ryanair, stayed in a B&B and receive gifts bought at Primark - but that still wouldn't have stopped the detractors. Her trip has had absolutely no impact on my life, nor I suspect the lives of anyone else.
I'm sure all of the royal family spend obscene amounts on things they want to do.
They're rich, so they live like rich people.
I just wish the media and general public would leave her alone. She is a member of the royal family and a former actress. She will have celebrity friends. Let her get on with her life.
I think it is obscene the amount of money being spent on this baby shower. It makes a complete joke of their “charity work”. Think of the good all that wasted money could have done for prem babies, cancer research etc
My blood is boiling ?!!!
I’d like to hear what the Queen thinks of this tacky extravagance......while she huddles in front of her 2 bar electric fire! I believe Meghan was told it was not done to have baby showers in the royal family.....where present giving is a very low key affair. Just shows how grasping and cheap she is at heart......
That means security would have checked the hotel.
I read that she stayed in the most expensive hotel in New York, something like £50,000. Now that really is excessive if true!
Jalima1108 Princess Anne even got married the 2nd time wearing something she'd been photographed in before. Kate recycles clothes and shoes too, I'm pleased to see. Meghan has a lot to learn and seems too arrogant to learn it. I hope I'm wrong.
I saw Princess Anne recently. I may be wrong, but she was wearing a suit which she had worn many times previously. (very understated)
Agreed Telly, but she is now in a completely different position in life.
How can she be taken seriously stirring a casserole with survivors of Grenfell one minute and be on a half million spend fest the next?
