Name a film you've watched over five times

That still entertains you.

A friend from way back in my misspent youth has shared this on facebook. Without hesitation, my first choice was The Boat That Rocked which brings back happy memories of revising for exams on Ventnor beach listening to Radio London on my little transistor radio.

I scrolled down through the comments and saw that she'd named the same film!!

Happy Days.

How about you?

Probably Wizard of Oz! but whilst I will often see a film twice, 5 times is a bit excessive and I like film as a medium.
Though there was a time when 2 middle DGC were into The Secret Garden ..so I may have seen that 5 times. confused

Castaway - the children love it and I do too
Driving Miss Daisy - ditto
Big - ditto

Alien
Brief Encounter
An Inspector Calls
Rebecca
Notting Hill
The Sixth Sense

In fact, lots of films. There are always bits that I've forgotten.

I got ET on DVD for the children and found it disappointing although I enjoyed it when it came out.

The only film I ever re-watched, and that only once was The Sting.

The first time for the story, the second for the absolutely fantastic design.

Grandma2213 It's the scream outside the opera house when the Godfather realises his daughter is dead that gets me everytime and the shsot of him dying all alone with just a puppy playing at his feet. So heartbreaking sad

Those famous lines inThe Railway children always brings tears to my eyes as well.

Grandma2213 Thu 28-Feb-19 00:07:02

Oh annep1 'Daddy, my daddy!' I simply couldn't watch the Railway Children 5 times because of that one line. It has me in bits just to think about it! ET's farewell to Eliot comes a close second!

Railway children ( Daddy, my daddy! sob)
Brief Encounter
My Best Friends Wedding
The Way We Were

Certain lines still make me cry.

Titanic. It's virtually the only film in my opinion which actually lived up to its pre release hype.

Ryan's Daughter. Another which has stood the test of time.

What has happened to all the black and white musicals that used to be shown on tv? We used to get Fred and Ginger films on t.v. and I loved them all. I haven’t seen one for years now.

Rosieroe Wed 27-Feb-19 12:57:37

Calamity Jane. Doris Day and Howard Keel - perfect!

Ben Hur
Guns of Navarone

Pretty Woman
and of course: Jason and the Argonauts;
(the go-to end of term film when I was a part-time teacher and ended up doing Hall duty, every term). My children loved it too on television, but I don't think I ever watched it from beginning to end in one session.

The sheer energy of it, the dancing and the songs. Silly plot, but that applies to many films/plays etc.

It is the same with films like 'An American in Paris' and 'Singing in the Rain (both rapidly approaching 5 viewings) and other dance films of that era. It is the virtuosity of the dancing with some cracking good tunes.

Perhaps that's because you were 12. Wonderful singing and dancing, feel- good factor in spades, loved it??
Now The Railway Children leaves me cold.Guess it takes all sorts?

Grandma70s Tue 26-Feb-19 18:43:54

I remember going to see 7 Brides when I was 12 and thinking it was rubbish. I suspect I still would.

I’m surprised The Railway Children doesn’t crop up more often. Absolute classic.

PamelaJ1 Tue 26-Feb-19 17:50:37

Wonder what it is that makes 7 brides so popular?

humptydumpty Tue 26-Feb-19 16:14:31

TerriBull very impressed that you included Don't Look Now! I found that so scary at the end that I never watched it again; not surprised to see it top a list of most scary films ever!
