This broken shoulder has rendered me incompetent!

Kate you have brought new meaning to 'getting your knickers in a twist".

I know from experience how pain prevents you from focussing, it's dreadful isn't it?

But full recovery WILL happen and you'll be back to your old perceptive self.

This reminds me, my rotator cuff repair was a good excuse to have a few pedicures! I may have been in pain but my toes looked pretty. I hope you mend quickly Katek.

You have my total sympathy.
My shoulder is not broken but has been troubling me for over 6 months- variously diagnosed as frozen shoulder, osteoarthritis, bursitis, rotator cuff injury or tendinitis.
I have at times found it hard -sometimes impossible- to pull up my pants or jeans, reach behind me with loo paper (TMI!) hang up washing, do up my bra (even at the front, as twizzling it round has been hard) wear any weight of winter coat, reach the ticket machine at car parks, pull clothes over my head and cut my toenails! Knitting a cot blankie for my DD’s first baby has taken weeks but I am persevering.
On my own, there have been challenges but after two cortisone injections at least I am not in constant pain so how you are managing I cannot imagine!

So many scenarios here that I recognise! You just don’t realise how much you use your dominant hand until you can’t. The voluminous skirt and nae knickers (whilst an attractive option) definitely wouldn’t work up here on the windy North east coast! I am hanging onto the thought of next GN meet-up as I’m housebound apart from being taken out by DH at the weekend for an airing. Can’t wait for life to return to normal-day time tv is not my ideal companion

When I broke my shoulder, I was encouraged to try to do without the sling at night. I slept on my good side (right) and rested my poorly arm on a pillow. I continued to sleep well because I am a very static sleeper - usually wake up in the same position I fell asleep in. Even now I still sleep on my right side.

I broke my wrist many years ago just before we went on holiday with friends to the beautiful island of Gigha (just off Kintyre, and sort of across from where soop lives).
My friend's husband, who I know I used to annoy with my generally laid back attitude (he was ex-army), used to plait my long hair very tightly each morning. My pal and my own DH didn't know how to plait hair - they said . I looked a bit like Beryl the Peril, as it stuck out to the sides of my head. ?

That is very awkward.

I had a shoulder tendon strapped up for about 6 weeks. I got into bed the single bed was against a wall.
On the first night I realised that I would not easily be able to lever myself out of bed with my painful right arm . I had to throw OH out of the bed altogether and sleep on my good side.

KatyK I can feel your pain and understand how difficult it is get into your knickers its 4 years this June when I fell and broke my shoulder and upper arm and am still suffering.
Washing and drying my hair was the worst thing and in the beginning OH had to brush & comb my hair,he thought he was brushing the dog the way he used to be so heavy handed

Katek, sorry to hear you are still struggling. I can empathise with you. When my hands are really bad, I end up doing a wee dance, trying to get knickers on with one hand.
As for tights, forget it! That's why I ended up with tights round my knees at the Glesca grannies meet up.
If you lived in Edinburgh, you wouldn't need to worry about wearing knickers.
We weegies believe it's aw fur coat and nae knickers , there.

Oh KateK, if it wasn't such cold and windy weather, you could go without your knickers, and wear a voluminous skirt! Although, if you fell over again, it could be pretty embarrassing ?.
Seriously though, it's sometimes hard to concentrate when we've got pain to contend with, and things seem to be 'out of sync'. Hopefully you'll soon be back in the swing of things (I can feel a St Andrews lunch coming up.... ?) x

Oh dear! A sorry situation. I suppose the main thing with knickers is remembering to pull them up. Otherwise, if still round your ankles they might cause you to trip and maybe even break your shoulder. Oh!!
I hope you get back to normal as soon as poss Katek. There are lunches to be had and chat to exchange...

Thanks for the kind thoughts everyone. Pain levels are not as bad as they were and I’ve managed to reduce painkillers. I have fracture clinic on 13th - hope to get sling off so I can start physio and build up to driving again. Heaven only knows how many sartorial snags I’m going to hit before then!

It must be exhausting trying to do everything with only one good arm. No wonder you're making mistakes and mixing things up! Heavens, I've been known to put my knickers on back to front with two working arms

How much longer do you expect to be incapacitated? Is there light at the end of the tunnel? Sending and best wishes for a quick recovery and someone to help with your knickers

Sorry to hear how you are still suffering KateK..You were missed at the Edinburgh meet,but everyone said how they hoped for your quick recovery and to see you next time knickers on any old way !How would we know

Oh Katek that must be so painful, take things slowly and look after yourself. Hope the knickers are not too uncomfortable.

I am so sorry, you must also be in pain ?
