Dear ann so sorry to hear of this extra buggeration in your H's care. Unfortunately the change of environment and routine is likely to add to his distress, and consequently yours too. Please look after yourself first - you are no good to him if you are exhausted. The staff there do their shift then go home and someone else takes over. Is it necessary for you to visit every day? That may seem harsh but who is looking after you? Who cares for the carer?

annsixty, I'm sorry to hear about your husband. We had a similar experience with DH's father last September. He fell at home and was taken to hospital, he was very confused and complained about everything. He was normally a calm man. He had a water infection,once on antibiotics, he quickly became less agitated.
You've had a traumatic day, but your DH is in the best place and luckily nothing was broken. You now need to look after yourself and get some rest.

All hospitals should have a Dementia Support worker on duty. And his water jug should have a red lid to denote that he has Alzheimers and, therefore might need help with feeding. There should also be The Forget me not dementia symbol some where above his bed to Remington people. Please try to seek out the Alzheimers society worker.

What a blow ann. I’m guessing it’s a UTI which might have made him confused and prone to falling. The IV meds should work quickly. Please think about, and look after, yourself. You matter.

Dear Anne, Had this situation with my parents and it was so difficult and I know I am younger than you, but the emotional battle is more of a problem than the physical tiredness. Please eat as well as you can even if it is scrambled egg on toast. Once the antibiotics have taken effect your DH may be calmer and it sounds as if this infection has been brewing for a few days, given your reports of his situation. The ward ought to have a nurse on duty who has extra training in care for the elderly. Maybe ask tomorrow. Meanwhile I send up a quiet prayer for you both. I’d suggest wine but warm milk is more soporific. Sleep as well as you can. ???

I'm so sorry to hear about your husband. I hope you can get some rest tonight.

Just back after 5 and a half hours in A&E with H.
He had a fall this morning and the staff called 999.
After 1 x-ray, 1 CT scan he was declared ok but then the bloods came back with significantly high infection levels.
It is not known where the infection is but he is on intravenous antibiotics and admitted to a ward.
He was very hard work all the time while waiting, he was very agitated, very impatient and complained endlessly about everything.
I came back exhausted and now of course I have daily visiting to cope with.
The staff were not best pleased when they realised he needed one to one care.
The future is as uncertain as ever.

Otis was 7lb 14 at birth Charleygirl but has lost 10% this week. I am trying to o the maths and failing miserably.
I think about 3.25 kg ?

Charleyg It blowing a sort-of gale outside the window. So different from yesterday's sunshine. Never mind. All weather has a purpose.

When we had our last long weekend in the heelands, we purchased a bronze cast heeland cow and calf. I have managed to knock mother cow off her feet twice. The first time one of the horns came off, we found it way under the sofa (nestling in a wee pile of fluff). MacS repaired it with super glue.
Today, once again, I knocked mother cow over and...the horn flew off. MacS took the beastie into the bedroom and started to re-glue the horn. As he did so, he dropped the horn. We've spent ages on our hands and knees performing a finger-tip search all over the wood bedroom floor. Oh the dust fluff languishing in hard to reach places. . Gave up the search and both took a nap. MacS has just presented me with the vanishing horn. It had pinged up from the floor and had lodged delicately inbetween the runner of the perspex chair. We did a high-five. As you do.

Susan I have made up the bed for your DH. The next time he strays he will be sleeping in the annexe. It is very much self-service but he will get rest as well. By the way, alcohol is forbidden.

Maw Otis is swaddled as I used to swaddle my sons as babes. He is adorable.
kitty We cannot have enough adorables here in the kitchen. Wolfie makes two. I can almost hear him chuckle.
Maw Flynn is another adorable. He's growing up fast. I love his sweet expression.

The tiny little Otis cannot weigh very much- as much as 3 kg- I doubt it, I would think 2.5kg.

The sun is out here but it is anything but warm. I went to Waitrose and there was a man there with a T shirt, shorts and flip flops. I was dressed for mid January and I was comfortable.

No Northern Lights here either. Well, if there were I didn't see them as I was asleep ?. Today has been gey blustery. I had a wee walk up the garden and there is a lot of wood on the ground blown out of trees so I guess it was quite gusty.

Lady's Smock plants are very nearly flowering though and daisies are getting carpety underfoot in some places. Looking on Twitter at people's pics of wildflowers down south reminds me how much difference a bit of northerliness makes. Spring gets going later, or maybe just slower and summer is shorter. But Oh! the quiet and the wild.

Kitty you are so right that wolf cuddly toys are hard to come by. This one was a present from friends in France and DD and SIL have tried in vain to sources a “spare” for the inevitable day he goes missing.
They have had no luck anywhere so have to keep a careful eye on him.???

Four hours in a gloriously sunny garden seems to have made the arm no worse and has certainly lifted my mood . Pain is rumbling panache, it just needs time and patience and all will be well. It must be frustrating not to be able to get into your garden galen, any room for a shaped ramp? I seem to recall you have a very pretty front garden, hope that’s accessible to you.

I’m another fan of that coat soop, it’s just right for you. Our garden is tiny, manageable at the moment, especially as the grass is cut for us. I love a potter and am lucky that Mr C can do the heavy stuff.

Your resident son’s change of diet made me laugh mamissimo, predictably unpredictable comes to mind .

I’ve been thinking about the passengers on the Viking cruise ship and realise yet again how lucky we were with our trip. It was a bit bouncy on the final night but nothing like their experience.

Time to organise some food. Apparently the fresh air has made the apprentice gardener hungry. Off to peel a vegetable or two now. Take care everyone, rest if you should.
