“Cleans a big big carpet
For less than half a crown!” ?

Why is it some adverts stick in our minds over so many years? I can even hear the tune!

Any more ‘old ‘uns’ that we can still remember?

Bathsheba Sun 24-Mar-19 21:49:52

Fresh cream cakes - naughty, but nice.

Roses grow on you (Cadbury's Roses chocolates)

And who remembers the Heat Electric ads? "For all your creature comforts..."

Urmstongran Sun 24-Mar-19 21:52:24

Was it ‘Smiths’ crisps that had the blue bag of salt in them annodomini?

On the edges of my memory is an ad for ‘Wagon Wheels’ with injun music and tomahawks....

Bathsheba Sun 24-Mar-19 21:54:28

Yes Smiths crisps.

Bathsheba ?

‘Pi’a dor’ (?sp) wine ‘The French adore Pi’a dor’. I don’t think I’ve spelt it right. And I’m pretty certain the French didn’t love it! I remember mentioning it to a French girl at college asking if it was nice and she said ‘it’s crap’. Oh dear.

"Bring out the Branston"!

Bathsheba Sun 24-Mar-19 22:13:39

I loved that series Cherrytree, it was like a mini soap opera! I think there were even adverts about the advert, teasing us about the next 'episode' due to air the following night - I may be wrong about that, but there is a vague memory that we knew when the next one in the series was due to air.

Thanks Bathsheba for that! Wonder what it means? Must Google it now I can spell it! One thing leads to another doesn’t it?

(How to waste time without even trying).

‘ ... wash it and the colour springs back,
Squash it and (....dum de dum)
This is the carpet, the family carpet
That’s built to last for years and years
and years and years and years and years (sorry but I’m singing it in my head & it did go like this!)
This is the carpet that you can afford
By CYRIL LORD!’

Chewbacca Sun 24-Mar-19 22:32:23

Heaven's above Urmstongran, I'd forgotten about that one! We had an orange and green Cyril Lord carpet, back in the 60s, and it was horrible! Nylon tufts that you snagged your shoes and toe nails in and got huge electric shocks from! My mother thought it was beautiful! grin

Nanah67 Sun 24-Mar-19 22:33:36
