“Cleans a big big carpet
For less than half a crown!” ?

Why is it some adverts stick in our minds over so many years? I can even hear the tune!

Any more ‘old ‘uns’ that we can still remember?

Haven't read the whole thread, so apologies if this one's already put in an appearance:

Winter evenings last for longer,
so you'll need more light and stronger,
Mazda lamps stay brighter longer
Always ask for Mazda.

Well done ladies! So many great ones on here that I’ve enjoyed - thanks to your excellent memories! Late to the thread or not, they were good ones Mancgirl and MamaCass!

“Mummy. Why are your hands so soft?” Because they’ve been in water all day dosing the bloomin’ dishes! ?

Have we had the Esso ad, ‘Put a Tiger in your Tank’?

When I wake up
in the morning light,
I put on my jeans
and I feel alright
I pull Brutus jeans on,
I put my Brutus jeans on
(or more or less those words, anyway.)

I remember David Dundas going on to have a hit with the song, with a slight tweak to the lyrics, in the mid 70s, when I was in my mid teens. Happy days ?

Witzend so funny .... Imagine washing your hair then looking forward to some tinned salmon for tea!

“Ow d’yer do it, Stanley?”
“It’s Tankard that helps me excel.
After one I’ll do anything well!”
Whitbread Tankard, the pint that thinks it’s a quart.
The visuals were an animation of a redheaded Stanley wearing a tank top, managing to stop a runaway train.

Also, I remember: “Tunes help you breathe more easily”

Don't forget the TV Times, don't forget the TV Times. The only way to see what's coming on ITV is to go and get the TV Times.

I don't know why, but there's a really boring one I somehow remember - maybe because it was so boring!

A 50 ish woman, halfway through shampooing her hair at the washbasin, then saying brightly, 'The sooner I get this over with, the better! There's Prince's salmon for tea!'

No, Luton Airport!

Witzend Tue 26-Mar-19 12:07:13

Ooh, I love those Boddington's ads! Have just forwarded that and the gondola one, to sister in the US. Classics! So thanks to whoever reminded me.

Why does nobody make really funny ads any more? So many are just plain boring, often dubbed from another language.

BTW does anyone else remember 'Naughty but nice!' (Cream cakes.). It was dreamed up by an old school friend of dh, who was working for an ad agency at the time.,
