My 91 year old fil has been living quite successfully by himself since mil died 4 years ago - until last week. It was the absolute classic scam, three guys on the doorstep offering to clean his gutters, roof etc. They even took him to the bank so he could withdraw money. Fil also let them into the house to “wash their hands.” Fortunately, his next door neighbour overheard some of the doorstep conversation while she was hanging out her washing and called the police. To cut a long story short, they were all apprehended at the end of the road and have been charged with several offences. None of us can believe that fil did this-he’s in full possession of all his faculties and normally would never part with a penny if a halfpenny would do. He’s seen all the warnings on tv and newspapers, had emails from his bank about withdrawing cash for workmen, notices in the bank etc and he still did it. We cannot understand what possessed him. We would all like him to move to a retirement apartment, not only because of this, but for company and a degree of on site support. He has been absolutely adamant that he will not move, we’re now wondering if he may reconsider. Any suggestions as to how to persuade him welcome! We’re all in shock but he’s almost enjoying the fuss and the police visits.
So Harry and family are coming back!
