Had a bit of a headache so took paracetamol and sat down with my eyes shut until it took effect. I put tv on for a bit of background noise and what’s the first thing I hear? “It’ll pay for my funeral” ....... yet another ad for an over 50’s funeral plan! I am sooooo fed up with these ads, especially the one with the dodgy guy in the conservatory with his neighbour, June. What is he doing with those binoculars anyway? Haven’t enough ‘over 50’s’ already signed up? These plans aren’t even the best way to save ‘for your funeral’ or do the £100 gift card and the other free gifts tip the balance?
Parsnip jam anyone?

I really hate the underlying theme to these ads.....all about the guilt of not 'providing' so you do not burden your children.
In my not particularly wide experience of funerals the more lavish ones are organised by the family and there seems to be an element of guilt laid on ...something along the lines of 'doing them proud'. Guilt from both ends!
Have a little BS account if in doubt.....tell them they can keep it as simple as they want....can remember the darn COOP lady showing a whole load of expensive coffins for a cremation!.....duh its going up in smoke! Have fun whilst you are alive...spend as much time with your darlings....when you are gone...you are gone. Its the loving memories of times together that see us through the ghastly mourning and grieving stage....not, to my mind, how much was spent on the day. I do fully understand that many families take huge comfort in an event of some sort....but I doubt the family member wants anyone to spend more than they can afford.

I think our June fancies the old boy in the greenhouse, she is always calling round, she must be after her inheritance!! even his daughter looks a bit dubious about her!!!!

We all know we are going to pop off eventually, we don't need to be reminded. Don't care what they do with me, I will be dead. But before that I am off on my holibobs to visit my DS and his lovely family.

(And I don't want an alarm clock or pen. offer me a cruise round the world and I may change my mind) smile

Recently a local undertaker had a stand in the local shopping mall. He was selecting and stopping anyone who looked elderly , with the prospect of buying a plan. He was hard to avoid in a narrow aisle.

I thought it was very bad taste. When an elderly lady got upset, she explained that her husband had just died, I was really put out. I tackled him about it but he was very defensive, not to say rude. ( talk about the Grim Reaper.)

If I want to buy a funeral plan I shall. Just stop reminding me on TV or when shopping

They annoy me too, especially as I’m 50 and nowhere near the stage of thinking about my funeral - I’ve got two children to get through university and one to get through his entire high school years plus many more years of working. My funeral is another 30-odd years away, all going well!

What gets me is that in nearly every advert for anything "over 50", is the way they show the man or woman having grey or white hair ! Jeez, do they really think that everyone's hair turns this colour overnight as soon as they reach 50 ??
