What about yours?

Joan Hickson as Miss Marple

From the top of my head Vera ('Now that just isn't true is it pet') or Columbo ('Just one more thing').

I liked ( well fancied) Shoestring.

Ooooh my favourite relaxation - watching Detective Films!

Recently I was very impressed with Rowan Atkinson's Maigret. He was sensitive, aloof, deeply in love with his beautiful wife (Lucuy Cohu) and the series filled me with the atmosphere of the time and place.
I am a loyal fan of Kevin Whately and Laurence Fox in "Lewis" but must admit the real star is the music by Barrington Pheloung! I adore his music!
I will always see Joan Hickson as the real Miss Marple
Vera is always good and Brenda Blethyn is superb,
but possibly my favourite Detective is Ken Stott as "Rebus".

Parklife1. I hadn't read your post before I posted mine! Honestly!! So glad you like Joan Hickson! I used to watch the series with my daughters when they were in their teens. The stories were much darker than the silly frivolous moments we had with Geraldine McEwan. I used to tell the children "When I grow up I am going to be Miss Marple!" I was already getting into my 40s...

I liked Alan Davies in Jonathan Creek, although he wasn't a police employee, he was very good at solving murder mysteries. grin Wasn't so fond of it once Caroline Quenton left.

I also like Morse, Endeavour, and liked the relationship of the quirky Broadchurch detectives.

I do like Hastings too, in Line of Duty.

Day6 Sun 07-Jul-19 14:41:50

Oh yes, Joanna Scanlon was excellent in No Offence, Wiltshiregrams

maryhoffman37 Sun 07-Jul-19 14:51:32

Shaun Evans as Endeavour, plus the lovely Roger Alam is Inspector Thursday.
Laure Berthoud, Tin tin and Gilou in Spiral (Engrenages).
Ioan Griffiths as Daniel Harrow in the Australian TV series.

I am addicted to Killing Eve, so its Eve for me.
But I loved Robbie Coltrane in Cracker (I'm aware he was a psychologist in that).
Vera is good too ?

MissAdventure Sun 07-Jul-19 14:57:02

I used to like Quincy, although he wasn't a proper detective.

tinaf1 Sun 07-Jul-19 14:58:57

Morse: Endeavor:Vera : Foyle’s War: Joan Hickson Miss Marple: Dougie Henshall: Montebalno : Lewis.
Also loved all the Law & Order series

leyla Sun 07-Jul-19 14:59:43

Lots of you have mentioned Montalbano but I can only find it with sub titles - is that correct? Don’t think sub titles are for me...shame as I got all excited thinking there was a good series I hadn’t seen!

Kandinsky Sun 07-Jul-19 15:05:12

Loved Mark McManus as Taggart too, and Frost, & Miss Marple ( Joan Hickson is the only good Miss M, totally irreplaceable)

sue01 Sun 07-Jul-19 15:06:06

Wallander and Jim Rockford.

Nannytopsy Sun 07-Jul-19 15:13:18

Taggart, closely followed by Montalbano.
Vera

Esmenonna Sun 07-Jul-19 16:12:14

Adrian Monk - the defective detective. A very funny programme.
And I love Columbo.

WOODMOUSE49 Sun 07-Jul-19 16:18:14

So many recent ones: Hastings, Vera and Luther. Past ones: Shoestring and Cracker

WOODMOUSE49 Sun 07-Jul-19 16:19:31

and Jimmy Perez - YES.

HootyMcOwlface Sun 07-Jul-19 16:23:07

I’d forgotten about Peter Davidson in The last Detective, that was a good series - I liked his friend Mog too.
There are loads I enjoy. I love Morse, I think he’s my favourite, and also Endeavour and Lewis - and the lovely Hathaway, I was hoping they might keep him in his own series. Vera is great too. She’s like a soft old granny and lulls in the suspects, then WHAM she has them in her jaws!
