I think mine is inspector Morse.
Although I still love Columbo grin

What about yours?

tidyskatemum Sun 07-Jul-19 21:57:27

Montalbano - though the Italians have obviously never heard of DNA, fingerprints or preserving evidence
Lewis
Poirot
I was hooked on Castle for a while until it got really silly
Unforgotten with the brilliant Nicola Walker

Who could forget Ltn. Theo Kojak?
So sexy!
Sucking that ubiquitous lollipop?

If we are going back more years than I care to remember - Starsky, Never Hutch!

Lesley Sharp and Suranne Jones in Scott and Bailey; Joanna Scanlan in No Offence; Brenda Blethyn in Vera; Nicola Walker in Unforgotten. All magnificent.

I agree that Stephen Tomlinson is not at all like banks. Can’t watch Agatha raisin either. The casting is totally wrong.

Lewis, principally because of the regular appearances of Clare Holman and Rebecca Front. Plus the views of Oxford, of course.

Poirot and Vera

True Detective / Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson

Magnum PI / Tom Selleck

Kolchak: The Night Stalker / Darren MGavin

Harry-O / David Janssen

Peter Gunn / Craig Stevens

The X Files / David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson

Would The Avengers count?

George Gently and Bacchus great together, Vera, Lewis, Endeavour, and still love Columbo.

Montalbano = super!

Larissa67 Mon 08-Jul-19 09:22:44

Goran and Eames - Criminal Intent - cynical and smart
Taggart - even without Mark McManus - gritty and athmospheric
Miss Phryne Fisher - most stylish sleigh on the box
Wallender - all of them - but particularly the. Original Swedish ones
Saga Noren - cool, contientious, yet vulnerable

millymouge Mon 08-Jul-19 09:25:54

Joan Hickson as Miss Marple and John Thaw as Morse

newgran2019 Mon 08-Jul-19 09:57:04

I loved Van der Valk, and Morse, of course.

Larissa67 Mon 08-Jul-19 10:09:05

Miss Fisher is a stylish sleuth!

Jennist Mon 08-Jul-19 10:24:57

Love them all, but Montalbano is top, fabulous series too. But then there is the Korean Dane who played Alf in 'Follow the Money ', totally gorgeous J.

Fernbergien Mon 08-Jul-19 10:58:07

I also liked Van de Valt. Also the music. Eye level.

Marguerita Mon 08-Jul-19 11:02:39

My absolute favourite is Rufus Sewell as Aurelio Zen.

Margs Mon 08-Jul-19 11:27:48

The lovely (but late) Joan Hickson as "Miss Marple".

Perfect.

Eloethan Mon 08-Jul-19 12:54:07

Vera
George Gently
Endeavour
Poirot

I love most of the shoes mentioned including most of the American ones, but the first one I used to watch was Dixon of Dock Green. Thats a blast from the past.

Lilyflower Tue 09-Jul-19 09:31:35

Morse
Sarah Lund in 'The Killing' (and the various sidekicks, even the one who proved to be evil)
Laure in 'Spiral'
Perez in 'Shetland'
Tennyson
Goodness, pretty near all of them as I love the genre.

Lilyflower Tue 09-Jul-19 09:34:02

P.S., except Montalbano. Cannot stand it or the hero. Am bemused by its popularity here.
Poor script, cartoon hero (sexist twit). Bad supporting cast of buffoons. Nice mise en scene though, I'll give it that.

Eloethan Tue 09-Jul-19 15:04:24

I'd forgotten Shetland Lilyflower - I like that too.

glammagran Wed 10-Jul-19 20:22:14

How could I have forgotten Laure and Gilou from Spiral. LOVE this program.

Sara65 Wed 10-Jul-19 20:26:58

Ellie Anne

I don’t know who cast Alan Banks, but it’s so wrong! When I read the books, I imagine someone very much like Peter Barlow from Coronation Street!
Annie is wrong too.
